ππ« A New Chapter for the Downtown Eastside π«π
Today my heart is full of gratitude ππ and hope π✨. News that Larry Campbell — former Vancouver Mayor, Senator, and Coroner — has been appointed to oversee efforts in the Downtown Eastside (DTES) feels like a sign that maybe, just maybe, great change is finally coming π±π.
Larry has walked many hard paths — from the heartbreak of being a coroner ⚰️π, to the challenges of being Mayor π️, to years of public service π. Now, he’s stepping into one of the toughest roles yet: helping the DTES heal, rebuild, and rise π️.
π The DTES is a place of deep resilience π, but also deep struggles π’. Addiction, homelessness, poverty, and stigma have weighed heavy for decades. This new role is not just another job — it’s a calling π«ππΈ.
πΏ✨ I pray this appointment brings:
π Affordable & safe housing
𧑠Real compassion in health & social care
π³ Clean, safe public spaces
π€ Respect for community voices
π‘ Dignity & hope for every single person
This is a chance to bring together government, non-profits, and most importantly the people who live in the DTES themselves π£️❤️. Healing only happens when everyone’s voice is heard.
π May Larry Campbell have the wisdom πΏ, the heart π, and the courage π¦ to guide this work well. And may we as a community stand behind positive change π✨.
Let’s believe that this moment is the beginning of something brighter ππΈπΏ for the DTES, for Vancouver, and for all of us.
πππ✨
