How It All Started Going South — The Harper Connection

🇨🇦 How It All Started Going South — The Harper Connection

Remember 2012? 😳 It was the year so much started quietly unraveling in Canada. While we were being sold “tough on crime,” the Harper government was actually cutting the front lines that kept us safe — laying off over 1,000 border officers in one day.

Those cuts at the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) didn’t just save money — they opened cracks that we’re still paying for today:
🚛 Fewer officers checking containers and trucks
🚫 No more Port Police in Vancouver
⚠️ More room for smuggling, trafficking, and stolen goods to slip through

And now? New laws like Bills C‑2 and C‑12 are being dressed up as “border reform,” but they risk giving too much power to cabinet ministers and weakening due process for refugees — just when we need more transparency, not less.

It’s a bitter irony: Harper built prisons and preached law and order while quietly dismantling the systems that actually protect people.

We remember the protests, the rallies, the songs — how Canadians from every corner rose up to push that government out. ❤️

And yet, some of the same people — still connected to those old networks and strange international circles — are back, trying to tighten control, expand surveillance, and pretend it’s all for our safety.

We can’t go back.
We’ve seen what happens when decisions are made behind closed doors.

🇨🇦 Canada’s strength has always been our people — not our prisons, not our political spin.
Let’s keep standing up for fairness, truth, and each other. 💪✨

Reflective Question:
What would you do to make sure Canada never forgets this lesson and protects its people and borders the right way? 💭
