🚨 Time to Rethink Our Priorities 🚨
The Vancouver Police Department’s $349 million budget is already massive. On top of that, we’re spending $527,000 just to protect Mayor Ken Sim—a politician who, let’s be honest, many in the city strongly oppose.
💸 That $527,000 could instead:
- Provide basic monthly income for ~150 people on welfare for a year 💵
- Cover rent for 50 vulnerable families or seniors for a year 🏠
- Feed thousands of meals for children and seniors in need 🍲
- Fund emergency shelters or mental health supports across the city 🧠
Meanwhile, addiction, mental health, and housing crises are spiraling. Vancouver alone has seen 18,000 deaths from fentanyl, and homelessness continues to rise. But instead of investing in rehab, mental health, and housing, we funnel millions into policing and security. What has happened in Vancouver is, frankly, a crime against its own people.
Look at what happened in the US yesterday—people rise up when inequality, neglect, and public safety crises collide. Do we want that here?
This is a city at a tipping point. If we keep prioritizing enforcement over care, the human cost will keep rising. We need a wake-up call: it’s time to rethink where we are and where we want to go.
✅ Invest in people, not just policing.
✅ Fund rehab, mental health services, and housing.
✅ Build a safer, healthier city for everyone before another crisis forces our hand.
We can choose action—or wait for disaster. Which path are we going to take?
