help protect her

to the coders, programmers, and people who understand how these algorithms work:

If you see people trying to expose Jane Doe, don't help them find her.

Help protect her.

Use your skills for something better than feeding the internet's appetite for someone's private identity.

Make I AM JANE DOE visible.

Make privacy visible.

Make solidarity visible.

Let the algorithms find thousands of people saying:

I AM JANE DOE.

Not her name.
Not her photograph.
Not her address.
Not her social-media accounts.

Just thousands of us saying:

You don't get to turn her identity into public property.

If the internet can amplify cruelty, surely it can amplify compassion.

So, coders—

break the pattern.

Not by harming anyone.

By making sure that when people search for Jane Doe, they find a wall of people saying:

LEAVE HER IDENTITY ALONE.
