From Newletter of Achuar
The four Achuar leaders are over one week into their visit to Canada, and are currently preparing for their historic appearance at Talisman Energy's Annual General Meeting. Since arriving, they have met with MPs and civil society organisations in Ottawa and with First Nations in Ft. McMurray. They have seen first-hand the damage suffered by indigenous peoples and the land that began with the trampling the rights of First Nations. The Achuar are determined to exercise their right of self determination, and stop Talisman's invasion of their ancestral territory. Achuar delegates
We have a very big schedule of events this week and next. We encourage you to attend, showing your support for the Achuar and their just demand that Talisman leave their territory.

Stay Strong, United We Stand!

United we stand-Lyrics
There's nowhere in the world that I would rather be
Than with you my love
And there's nothing in the world that I would rather see
Than your smile my love

For united we stand
Divided we fall
And if our backs should ever be against the wall
We'll be together, together, you and I

For united we stand
Divided we fall
And if our backs should ever be against the wall
We'll be together, together, you and I

And if the world about you falls apart my love
Then I'll still be here
And if the going gets too hard along the way
Just you call, I'll hear

Lyrics by Elton John

Defend the Xingu- Please Help Stop the Belo Monte Dam!

Blog post by Tina Winterlik © 2011

This is so awful and frustrating. Why? Why is this happening. I feel so helpless. All I can do is share this and enlighten you. Hopefully if we all try to do something, we can Save the Amazon, Save the People, Save the Planet for the Future of our Children.

Please God, we need to stop this. I hope you all say a prayer, because we really need help. This is really really bad. Bad for the Whole World

Gathered in the Kayapo village Piaraçu near banks of the imperiled Xingu River in May 2011, an assembly of 320 indigenous representatives from 18 ethnicities from the Xingu basin and beyond were joined by leaders of the Movimento Xingu Vivo and Amazon Watch to discuss the impending human rights and environmental disaster that is the Belo Monte Dam, and ways for its opponents to forge a single and unified force to resist its construction.

Talisman Energy in Achuar Territory

Achuar Photo Essay

For centuries the Achuar people have lived in harmony with the Amazon rainforest.

But now, the unrelenting drive for oil has reached the deepest regions of their territory.

Canadian oil company Talisman Energy has already cleared hundred of kilometers of seismic lines in the northern Peruvian Amazon – and is now beginning to drill exploratory wells.
