Many people are asking the same haunting question right now: How is it possible that someone like Donald Trump—convicted of 34 felonies, accused of inciting violence, spreading hate, and undermining democracy—is still walking free? Why hasn’t the system stopped him?

The answer is painful, but it’s also liberating:

The U.S. government was never as strong, fair, or just as it pretended to be.

For generations, we were told that democracy would protect us. That no one was above the law. That the checks and balances worked. But the truth is, it only seemed that way because no one powerful enough had tried to break it from the inside—until now.

Illusions of Strength

The system relied on illusions:

• That leaders would act in good faith
• That laws would be applied equally
• That the courts were independent and unbiased
• That justice was slow but inevitable

But Trump shattered those illusions. He showed that with enough money, media manipulation, and political allies, you can delay justice indefinitely. You can lie constantly, incite hate, and still run for president again—even as a convicted felon.

He Didn’t Break the System — He Revealed It

Trump didn’t invent corruption, inequality, or white supremacy. He just took off the mask. He proved that the system can be bent, ignored, or even rewritten if you have power and no shame. And he proved that many in government—especially in Congress—would rather protect themselves than protect the people.

The system was built on sand. And now the tide is coming in.

A Moment of Reckoning

This isn’t just about Trump. It’s about all of us. It’s about realizing that we cannot rely on institutions to save us. We must speak, organize, and act ourselves. We must defend truth, protect the vulnerable, and call out injustice even when it’s uncomfortable—especially when it’s uncomfortable.

The Big Lie Is This:

“The system is strong enough to fix itself.”

No. It’s not. Not unless we force it to change.

So if you’re angry, confused, or grieving what democracy used to pretend to be — know this: You’re not alone. And you’re not powerless.

Expose the lies. Share the truth. Build something better.

I recently heard MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell call Donald Trump “stupid” on national television.
He didn’t stop there. He said Trump was “trapped in his stupidity,” launching into a fiery takedown that felt more like a performance than journalism.

And I thought—we’re going in circles.

This isn’t how news should sound.
It shouldn’t echo reality TV or viral outrage clips.
It should inform, not entertain at the expense of reason.

It reminded me of Forrest Gump:
“Stupid is as stupid does.”
That line wasn’t meant to insult—it was about actions.

🌊 Driftwood, Name-Calling, and Breaking the Cycle

Just yesterday, I was upset watching someone hack up a beautiful driftwood log that had rested on our beach for over 50 years. In frustration, I muttered, “Trumpster…”

And then I caught myself.

Name-calling doesn’t solve anything. It just keeps the fire going.

💬 My Friend Who Shouts “Ya Dummy!”

My 76-year-old friend used to say, “Ah, I’m so stupid,” every time something went wrong.
I gently encouraged him over time to stop saying that.

Now, when someone cuts him off in traffic, he just says:
“Ya dummy!”

Better, maybe. But words still matter.

🔥 A Wound from the Past

A few years ago, I was in a reconciliation and carving program.
We were creating two powerful pieces:

• One to honour the children who never came home from Residential Schools,
• And another for the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women.

It was emotional, intense, and sacred.

In a group chat, I posted something calling Trump a sociopath.
I didn’t mean to diagnose—I meant to warn.
But the word hit a nerve.

One First Nations participant, someone brave and open about their struggles and hopes, called me out.
They said my words were racist.
Another friend had posted a similar thought—and things spiraled.

I left the group.

Not because I didn’t care—but because it hurt so much.
And I realized: we weren’t just arguing about Trump.
We were navigating deep wounds.
Trauma. Power. Trust.

When I used the word “sociopath,” I wasn’t trying to excuse him.
I was trying to alert others to the danger.
But I now see that words like that—especially in cross-cultural spaces—can be misunderstood.

What sounds like concern to one person can sound like protection to another.
Especially when it's about someone in power who has caused so much harm.

Why are American newscasters sounding like celebrity roasters?
Why are they stooping to name-calling—on air?

Is this really how we challenge authoritarianism?
By sounding like the very thing we’re fighting?

We need anchors and journalists who report with truth and professionalism, not sarcasm and soundbites.

This isn’t just about Trump.

It’s about how we speak.
How we treat each other when we’re angry.
How we hold ourselves accountable when we mess up.
And how we try to grow—even when it’s messy.

We don’t have to be perfect.
We just have to try not to become what we’re resisting.

Even if all we can say in the heat of the moment is:
“Ya dummy!”
Let it be a reminder of our shared humanity—and our ability to do better.

I submitted everything I could to Indigenous Services Canada — baptism certificate, family history, names passed down. But no birth certificate claiming “Songhees,” no official death record either.
And their answer?
“You’re French.”

That’s how it is for so many of us.

We come from mixed roots, deep ties, and living stories — but if it’s not on colonial paper, they act like we don’t exist.

Let’s be honest: back then, paperwork didn’t exist.
Births happened at home, not in hospitals. People didn’t get official IDs. They were known by their family, their clan, their community. There was no “Métis” checkbox — that came later. Before that, we were called “half-breeds” or “mixed” or worse — labels made by colonizers to control.

And now, in 2025, they want us to digitize our bloodlines, prove our identities with forms and barcodes, while the systems they built erase the reality we lived.

Remember the treaties? Misunderstood, ignored, broken — not because our ancestors didn’t try, but because the values weren’t aligned. We spoke of respect, land, and future generations. They saw resources, profit, power.

Now we’re supposed to trust the same system that ignored Wampum belts and sacred agreements… to define who we are?

How many people are sitting alone right now, trying to explain their family story to a bureaucrat or fill out a form, only to be told:
“Sorry, you don’t qualify.”

If that’s you — I see you.

You are not lost. You are not invisible. You are not wrong.

You’re part of a bigger story. One where truth doesn’t need paper. One where our existence, our bloodlines, our roots — live beyond documents.

⏳ Let’s Talk About What Canada Day Really Means

Did you know that what we now call “Canada Day” wasn’t even officially called that until 1982?

Yeah. Before that it was “Dominion Day” — a celebration of colonization. July 1st, 1867 marks Confederation, when Canada became a dominion under British control. But here’s the thing: Indigenous Nations were never consulted. They already lived here — for thousands of years — in complex societies, with languages, laws, trade, science, and culture.

This “birthday” wasn’t the beginning for everyone. For many, it was the beginning of invasion, broken promises, and erasure.

📜 A Timeline We Should All Know

Year	What Really Happened
Pre-1600s	Indigenous Nations thrive. Long before Europeans arrive, there are governments, territories, and trade networks.
1613	The Two Row Wampum Treaty (Guswenta) is signed between the Haudenosaunee and the Dutch. Two nations agree to live side by side, in peace, without interfering with one another.
1701	The Great Peace of Montreal is signed by 39 Indigenous Nations and the French.
1763	The Royal Proclamation acknowledges Indigenous land rights.
1867	Canada is “created” — without Indigenous consent. The Indian Act, residential schools, and broken treaties follow.
1982	The Constitution is repatriated. Section 35 recognizes Aboriginal rights — but how often are they respected? “Canada Day” is made official.
Today	Indigenous people still fight for Land Back, clean water, justice for MMIWG2S, language revitalization, and true reconciliation.

🧵 What Is the Wampum Belt?

The Wampum Belts are not jewelry — they’re records of law, treaty, and trust. One of the most important is the Two Row Wampum:

Two purple lines on a white background.
One line = the Haudenosaunee canoe
The other = the European ship
They travel side by side, forever, without interfering with each other.

This wasn’t about surrender. It was about respect and mutual survival.

But that treaty — like so many others — was ignored.

I acknowledge that I live, work, and create on the unceded, ancestral, and occupied lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations.
These lands were never given up — no treaty was signed here.
So today, instead of just waving a flag or watching fireworks, I honour the original people of these lands and the treaties that still matter.

We grew up with tales of pirates swinging swords, chasing treasure, and sailing the tropical blue seas of the Caribbean. And in school, we were taught to see Christopher Columbus as a brave explorer — not a criminal.

But the truth is far darker.

The Caribbean was ground zero for one of the greatest crimes in human history — colonization. And Columbus wasn’t a hero — he was one of the first gang leaders of empire, launching a wave of murder, enslavement, and greed that swept across the oceans like a plague.

Let’s talk about the real Pirates of the Caribbean — and how their legacy is still with us today.

⚓️ Columbus: Pirate in All But Name

In 1492, Columbus didn’t “discover” anything — he invaded islands already home to millions of Indigenous people like the Taíno and Arawak. What he and his crew did after landing was not exploration. It was armed robbery, enslavement, rape, and genocide.

• He forced the Taíno to bring him gold or face amputation or death.
• He sold Indigenous children into sexual slavery in Spain.
• He and his brothers ruled Hispaniola like a mafia — with torture, hangings, and impalement.

Even other colonists eventually reported him for brutality. Columbus was arrested and sent back to Spain in chains. Yes — even the Spanish empire admitted he was too cruel.

But by then, the damage was done. He had opened the floodgates.

🏴‍☠️ The Caribbean: Birthplace of Empire and Piracy

After Columbus, the Caribbean became the central battleground for European empires fighting over stolen land and stolen wealth:

• Spain, France, Britain, and the Netherlands all wanted control of the Caribbean’s gold, sugar, and trade routes.
• To do it, they used conquistadors, slavers, colonists, and yes — pirates.
• These weren’t charming rogues — they were often armed thieves, enslavers, and killers.

Some were privateers — pirates legally hired by kings to raid enemy ships. Like Sir Francis Drake, celebrated in England but feared as a butcher by Indigenous and African people.

🍬 The Sugar-Plague Empire

The Caribbean became rich from sugar, but that sweetness was soaked in blood:

• Indigenous people were enslaved and worked to death.
• When their populations collapsed, the colonizers turned to Africa, kidnapping millions of people and forcing them into slavery on plantations.
• These plantations became the model for slavery in the American South.

The Caribbean wasn’t just about pirates chasing treasure. It was about global capitalism built on forced labor — and the first place this model was tested and spread.

🛶 Pirate Crews: Between Rebellion and Violence

It’s true that some pirate ships were multi-racial, with democratic rules and pay equality — especially compared to the brutal world of plantations. Many escaped African slaves, Indigenous runaways, and poor European sailors joined pirate crews as a way to survive.

But let’s not romanticize:

• Pirates still raided towns, burned ships, and often participated in the slave trade.
• They lived in the chaos created by colonialism, but they were not innocent rebels.

Sometimes they resisted empire. Other times they fed it.

💣 A Spreading Plague

What began in the Caribbean didn’t stay there. It spread like disease:

• The idea that land was free for the taking, as long as you were armed.
• The mindset that some lives don’t matter — as long as you profit.
• The model of plantation wealth and human trafficking became the foundation of the Americas.

This plague of empire reached North America, South America, Africa, and Asia. And it never really ended.

• Columbus is still celebrated in many places — while Indigenous genocide is ignored.

Even the phrase “Pirates of the Caribbean” has been Disneyfied — while the real pirates, profiteers, and empire builders who caused centuries of suffering are barely questioned.

• Uplift real histories: Learn about the Taíno, Garifuna, Maroons, and Afro-Caribbean resistance.

When I hear the word reconciliation here in Canada, it immediately brings to mind the ongoing and urgent efforts to repair the damage done to Indigenous peoples through colonization, residential schools, land dispossession, and systemic injustice. For many Canadians, reconciliation is a process of truth, healing, and responsibility — one rooted in the 94 Calls to Action issued by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC).

But recently, I came across the term "reconciliation bill" in the context of U.S. politics, and it made me stop. At first, I thought it might be a bill related to Indigenous justice in the U.S., or something tied to racial healing — but I was wrong. In the U.S., reconciliation means something completely different.

Reconciliation in Canada: Healing, Justice, and Indigenous Rights

In Canada, reconciliation refers to our collective responsibility to recognize and repair the legacy of colonialism. This includes:

• Confronting the trauma caused by the residential school system
• Restoring Indigenous languages and cultures
• Supporting land back initiatives
• Addressing systemic inequality in healthcare, education, housing, and justice
• Honoring treaties and promoting nation-to-nation relationships

Reconciliation in Canada is about truth, respect, and restoring dignity to Indigenous peoples.

Reconciliation in the U.S.: A Budget Trick

In the United States, however, “reconciliation” is a budgetary procedure — a tool used by Congress to fast-track certain legislation related to taxes, spending, or debt. It allows a bill to bypass the usual 60-vote requirement in the Senate and instead pass with a simple majority (51 votes). This process has been used to pass major and often controversial legislation, including tax cuts, healthcare changes, and stimulus bills.

So when U.S. politicians talk about a “reconciliation bill,” they’re not talking about justice or healing. They’re talking about money — and using a loophole to get around political gridlock.

Why This Matters

Words matter. When Canadians hear the word reconciliation, it stirs deep emotions, a sense of responsibility, and a call to action. But if we’re not careful, these important meanings can be diluted or misunderstood — especially when American political jargon dominates media headlines.

We must protect the meaning of reconciliation in the Canadian context and keep reminding people that this isn’t just a buzzword — it’s about acknowledging truths, restoring rights, and building a future based on respect and justice for Indigenous peoples.

Let’s not let a technical term from another country override the powerful and necessary work still being done here at home.

If you watch the news in Canada, you might think nothing significant happened in the U.S. on President’s Day. But the truth is, massive protests erupted all over the country—and they’re being suppressed.

This isn’t new. Controlling the narrative is a powerful tool. If protests aren’t covered by mainstream media, people assume they don’t exist. That’s how governments and corporations manufacture silence.

But people ARE resisting. They’re in the streets, they’re organizing, they’re making noise. The question is—why aren’t we seeing it?

How Censorship Works

Media blackouts and algorithm suppression mean that unless you actively search for protest coverage, you won’t find it. Social platforms shadow-ban certain hashtags. News outlets downplay events or focus on distractions. The goal? Make people feel alone. Make resistance look small. Make injustice seem inevitable.

What We Can Do

Censorship only works if we let it. Here’s how we fight back:

✅ Look beyond mainstream media – Follow independent journalists, activists, and citizen reporters. Use social media strategically: search protest hashtags, look for firsthand footage, and verify sources.

✅ Amplify what’s being erased – Share videos, articles, and eyewitness accounts. Talk about it. Make sure people know what’s really happening.

✅ Support direct action – If you’re in Canada, find local solidarity events. If you’re in the U.S., show up where you can. And everywhere—pressure officials, sign petitions, and demand accountability.

This Affects Us All

What’s happening in the U.S. isn’t just an American issue. Censorship, surveillance, and media manipulation are global threats. If we don’t push back now, we risk a world where truth is dictated, and resistance is erased before it begins.

So stay informed. Stay loud. And don’t let them pretend this isn’t happening.

What is Propaganda and Who Gets to Decide?

 In recent days, Elon Musk made headlines with his declaration that anyone promoting propaganda will face suspension on X (formerly Twitter). While this may sound like a step toward fighting misinformation, it raises an important question: who gets to decide what counts as propaganda?

Defining Propaganda

Propaganda is not a new concept. It’s the strategic spread of biased or misleading information to influence opinions, behaviors, or beliefs. Often associated with political movements, advertising campaigns, or ideological battles, propaganda works by:

1. Appealing to emotions rather than logic.

2. Distorting or omitting facts to fit a narrative.

3. Simplifying complex issues into catchy slogans.

4. Repetition to reinforce ideas over time.

Historically, propaganda has been used to rally nations during wars, promote political ideologies, and sell consumer goods. While it can serve positive purposes—like promoting public health—it often manipulates the truth to serve specific interests.

Elon Musk’s War on Propaganda

On the surface, Musk’s statement about suspending accounts promoting propaganda might seem like a noble effort to ensure truth and integrity on social media. However, Musk himself has faced criticism for amplifying controversial or misleading content.

For example:

He has questioned widely accepted scientific research.

Amplified polarizing content, sometimes without verification.

Framed his personal opinions as objective truths.

This creates a paradox: if propaganda involves promoting a biased or one-sided narrative, hasn’t Musk engaged in similar behavior?

The Problem With Policing Propaganda

The real issue lies in defining what propaganda is and who gets to enforce the rules. Social media platforms already face backlash for their inconsistent content moderation practices. Adding a vague, subjective term like "propaganda" to the mix creates more challenges:

Bias in enforcement: Decisions may reflect the platform owner’s political or ideological leanings.

Silencing dissent: Marginalized voices could be suppressed if their perspectives are labeled as propaganda.

Erosion of trust: Users might lose confidence in the platform’s fairness.

What’s at Stake?

When powerful individuals like Elon Musk control platforms that shape global discourse, their definitions and enforcement of terms like "propaganda" carry immense weight. It’s critical to remain vigilant and question actions that may limit free expression under the guise of combating misinformation.

How Can We Navigate This?

1. Educate Yourself: Learn to identify propaganda techniques, such as emotional manipulation, selective facts, and oversimplification.

2. Diversify Your Sources: Rely on multiple perspectives to form a well-rounded view of an issue

3. Speak Out: Platforms like X and Facebook thrive on user engagement. Share your thoughts, question narratives, and hold powerful figures accountable.

4. Advocate for Transparency: Demand clearer content moderation policies that avoid favoritism or bias

Final Thoughts

Propaganda is a powerful tool, and social media platforms amplify its reach like never before. While Elon Musk’s announcement may appear to champion integrity, his track record suggests it’s crucial to scrutinize how this policy is applied. As users, we must challenge double standards and remain active participants in safeguarding truth and free expression online.

Do it for every child taken- June is National Aboriginal Month

Where do we start.
First I want to acknowledge that I live on the UNCEDED TERRITORIES of the
Tsleil-Waututh Nation   Squamish Nation   Musqueam   


The UNCEDED TERRITORIES of Tsleil-Waututh Nation, Squamish Nation, Musqueam is what has become know as Vancouver.  

I acknowledge that have led a privileged life compared to my gr. grandma's grandma and my gr. gr. grandma and so many others of  Indigenous Ancestry. I know that my gr. grandma's grandma attended a convent school in the Oregon,

 "Probably not many women in the history of the west coast of North America could rival her, when it comes to generations of grandchildren.  (my gr. grandma's grandma)Mary Ann was born at Marysville (Corvallis) in the Willamette Valley of Oregon in 1834.  Her parents were of Iroquois and Kalapuya blood; she was raised to age 15 at the Catholic Mission at St. Paul." 

Early documents in our possession read “… I was married there to Joseph Brulé, a French Canadian and went to Cowlitz and later to Victoria, British Columbia.  Lived there till he died and had six children by him … only two are living now, (my gr. grandma's mom)Ellen and Cecile.  Two years after my husband died, I married Jean Baptist Vautrin, a Canadian … by Mr Vautrin I had nine children …

Ellen, the daughter Mary Ann(my gr. grandma) mentions above, married Joseph Poirier, a voyageur from Quebec (the man for whom Ecolé Poirier is named) and raised a large family, in a cabin by the Sooke River and later a home on Grant Road. ”

 and I know that my  gr. gr. grandma was Songhees (Theresa Eliza) married a Portuguese settler (Joao Ignacio d'Almada- name changed to John Enos) and lost all her rights and privilege to land and anything else. Her child,  my great grandpa Joseph Enos was spared residential school because he was part Portuguese. Due to these events, my life could have been very different and I am blessed it wasn't, but it doesn't make it easier to know truth. 
 
It is to horrible to imagine but it happened in the place that everyone loves to call "their home", "their Canada". Indian Agents came and stole children and forced them into schools, often far away from home where their parents could not help. If they tried THEY were send to jail.  Stop and imagine IF that was YOUR child. They tortured many of children physically, mentally and sexually. It was warfare. Crimes against humanity.

But time passed and people just went about their business and they taught and told other untruths and so nothing was learned. Many many people never knew the truth. Many people today who are  in their 50's & 60's never knew anything about it, still don't or simply refuse to acknowledge the what actually occurred or the legacy left behind.

An evil legacy which is

• huge numbers of children in the Foster/Welfare system and

• many Indigenous people incarcerated, 

• drug addiction caused by TRAUMA from the Residential schools and their legacy. 

Sadly people would rather blame people than to acknowledge the ugly history of this so called Canada.  





The time has come,  it's out there, the truth, the knowledge, the way to learn and to heal. Please if you do not know, educate yourself. Take the bag off your head and WAKE UP!  Stop saying hurtful evil things like I saw in the comments on some of these posts.

 Imagine if  "you" were one of those children. Imagine your life today if you are the child or a grandchildren of one of those children. THINK, put yourself in their shoes.

Celebrating Canada day is wrong if you do not acknowledge the past and make every effort to correct the horrible wrongs done to the children and to parents. 

We have so much work to do, it's hard to know where to start but everyone must do something....start with yourself.  

Do it, do it for every child taken.

It is National Aboriginal History Month.

Reading the comments is so sad, so many unempathetic people that can not grasp what really happened. It was 150 year war on children. A war on children. Right here. Right in Canada. It was evil. That evilness carried on and lives until we acknowledge the crimes against those children. Only then can we move forward.

This is why EVERY person must learn the TRUTH!
It is a ugly uncomfortable truth but nevertheless to ignore allows for ignorance and hate to grow.


The legacy of the colonialism lives on and is thriving  in the pipelines, fish farms, LNG, Site C, Mount Polley, lack of housing, addictions from trauma, our health care,  the education and political system. We need a complete overhaul in everyway we think.

I heard it a little while ago and then I went off and did something and it's still sinking in but
omG!! CAN YOU BELIEVE IT!

No one thought this would happen. I prayed and meditated and asked all my ancestors for help and for miracles and it happened.

I don't want to sigh with relief yet but I do have high hopes that things ARE going to get better.

But we are going to have to be firm and make sure they know what we want.

Housing, Food - Basic Needs, ...anyways.. how exciting.. we shall celebrate!

Today I feel confused, I am supposed to go to something very special, Moms against KinderMorgan but I am nervous about the weather. I have been working on this blog post all morning. Today is supposed to be a very special day in that there is going to be a cosmic shift. What will happen today I don't know but I feel something, I think my kid is feeling it too, normally she's not really into going to these things but today when I mentioned whether we should just stay home...she questioned me...I think we all feel like this...the truth is sometimes so ugly or so hidden we don't want to see it.

So I send love and light out into the world and pray that this big beautiful moon will push us forward into a more socially and environmentally just world.

This mornings blogpost started when I watched this...and played out as you see it. I hope the message is clear.

It's not easy telling the truth and journalists are the first to take the heat. I am not inferring anyone is perfect and I really don't know that much about Mike Wallace other than I remembering watching something that he was the one who really let the people in the US know the atrocities they were doing to the Vietnamese people, setting huts on fire and such and putting that on TV. Until then people didn't know that shit was really happening. That was my understanding... if you read here he spread some terrible untruths but he did some good too...
