🌧️ DON’T LET CANADA FALL BEHIND 🇨🇦
🚨 Trump Killed a Lifesaving Flood Forecast Tool — Canada, Wake Up!
Did you know the Trump administration quietly shut down a nearly finished NOAA project (Atlas 15) that would have helped U.S. communities prepare for extreme rainfall and flooding caused by climate change?
👉 It was low-cost.
👉 It was almost done.
👉 It would have saved lives.
But instead, it was buried—another victim of anti-science politics. And now, Americans are left building roads, bridges, and stormwater systems using weather data from the 1970s. Meanwhile, once-in-100-year storms are happening every 10 to 25 years. Sound familiar?
🌪️ If Canada doesn’t act fast, we’re next.
We still rely on outdated rainfall data here too. Much of our infrastructure is based on past weather—not the hotter, stormier, more extreme future that’s already here. Cities like Vancouver, Calgary, and Montreal are not ready.
We can’t afford to wait until people are knee-deep in water—or worse.
🛑 Canada needs a national, climate-adjusted flood forecasting tool like Atlas 15 was supposed to be.
📢 Engineers, planners, and everyday people need accurate, forward-looking data—not guesswork based on a climate that no longer exists.
This is a matter of public safety, not politics.
New Mexico and Texas are already feeling the devastating impacts of outdated planning. Let’s not wait for that kind of crisis here.
📣 Call on Environment and Climate Change Canada and your local representatives to push for a standardized, national approach to climate-based infrastructure planning.
Because this isn’t just about numbers—it’s about lives.
