Another Act of Violence Against Women

Another Act of Violence Against Women—And the Industry Still Invites Him?

By Tina Winterlik aka Zipolita

What kind of message are we sending when a man facing felony assault charges for allegedly choking his pregnant girlfriend is still invited to perform on a major international tour?

Playboi Carti (Jordan Carter) was scheduled to open for The Weeknd at concerts in Vancouver and Edmonton. Thankfully, Canadian border authorities stepped in and denied him entry due to his criminal record—something the entertainment industry clearly chose to ignore.

Carti’s history isn’t a secret. He has faced:

  • Felony charges for allegedly assaulting a pregnant woman.
  • Drug and weapons charges after 12 bags of marijuana, pills, and guns were found in his vehicle.

And yet—he was still given a platform, a stage, a spotlight. Why?

Where Are the Values?

This isn’t about “cancel culture.” This is about accountability and integrity. Violence against women, especially against someone vulnerable and pregnant, should be a clear and automatic disqualifier from participating in high-profile events. But time and again, we see the music industry prioritize ticket sales, hype, and fame over basic morality.

What kind of world are we building for our daughters when violent men are glorified and given microphones?

Canada Said No. Why Didn't The Industry?

It wasn’t the record label. It wasn’t the concert organizers. It wasn’t The Weeknd’s team. It was the Canadian border authorities who finally said, “No, you are not welcome here.”

We need to stop celebrating men with violent histories. We need to demand more from the artists we support and the people who put them onstage. We need to stand with survivors.

Time to Raise the Bar

Art matters. Music matters. But values matter more.

Say no to performers who harm others. Say yes to a future where talent and kindness go hand in hand.
