United we stand-Lyrics
There's nowhere in the world that I would rather be
Than with you my love
And there's nothing in the world that I would rather see
Than your smile my love

For united we stand
Divided we fall
And if our backs should ever be against the wall
We'll be together, together, you and I

For united we stand
Divided we fall
And if our backs should ever be against the wall
We'll be together, together, you and I

And if the world about you falls apart my love
Then I'll still be here
And if the going gets too hard along the way
Just you call, I'll hear

Whoohoo! We need 250,000 views to Fill the Foodbank

Here it is! Super Simple! Watch this video and  Shaw will donate $1 to the food bank drive and Campbell Canada will donate 1 pound of food up to $250,000 and 250,000 pounds of food respectively! Awesome! Please Share & RT.

By the way, while I have your attention, if they would just raise the minumum wage to $15 a hour, a single mom with a child could actually work part-time, while the child is in school- if such hours actually existed and then they would not have to take assistance.

Employers need to think about how they can accommodate women more. It takes a village to raise a child and in our present culture of  every person for themself, well it is obvious it is not working.

Using a school as a babysitter is not my idea of a how to educate a child either, especially in our present predicament with the teachers and students caught up in funding shortages and other issues.

Creating Edible Schoolyards and focusing on urban gardens, teaching children and families how to raise their own food, is a task we need to put at highest priority. Roof top gardens and greening the urban landscape is a must.

International 420 Day

Blog post by Tina Winterlik © 2012

4/20: Friday, April 20th, 2012 @ Vancouver Art Gallery

http://420vancouver.com/event/friday-april-20th-2012/
http://www.cannabisculture.com/v2/content/2012/04/20/Canadas-420-Celebrations-Reach-Higher-Level-2012

Do you know what 420 is? 420 refers to when someone smokes marijuana. I heard it started as people that would get together at 4:20 everyday to smoke and it grew from there. Now today is International Cannibis Day. April 20th  which is 4/20. I didn't even know this was happening but saw something about it yesterday and wanted to share my thoughts.

Did you hear how Stephen Harper was all down on the fact that Latin America countries want to legalize drugs. I support Mexico and these countries 100%.  It's not their "War On Drugs" and that whole mentally and wording is strongly responsible for the war that has developed down there.

When drug law policies treat people in a humane way instead of criminals that is the only way our culture can move forward.

This is a file from the Wikimedia Commons

Marijuana should be used as the medicine it is. Even the coca leaf is a medicine but not in the form that people change it to. In South America, the Kogis use it in it's natural form, placing a small leaf on the tongue  before bed and meditating as the Shaman instructs them. They do this when they have a dilemma- stress- to help them find clarity.

This culture of ours is too stressed. And before I start rambling let me point out that when alcohol was illegal there were all sorts of the same crap going on with Al Capone and other gangsters killing all sorts of innocent people. This all has to STOP!!

Anyways, I think it's cool that today lots of people will be downtown celebrating. It's a beautiful sunny day for it. We had  Four former B.C. attorneys general -- Colin Gabelmann, Ujjal Dosanjh, Graeme Bowbrick and Geoff Plant --  stand up and say they are for legalization of cannabis. http://www.globaltvbc.com/former+bc+attorneys+general+call+for+legalization+of+marijuana/6442581118/story.html

From Global:

"It's just time - 77 per cent of Canadians are telling us it's time to change the law."

The former provincial justice ministers, who cross party lines, on Tuesday joined a growing chorus of academics, four Vancouver mayors, the Health Officers Council of B.C., the Liberal Party of Canada and others who say the 89-year-old marijuana prohibition has failed.

but no Stephen Harper would rather pollute us with the pipeline that let a person chill out and medicate themselves with a natural substance that God put on this earth to use responsibly. This is obvious with that Omnibus Crime Bill he pushed thru, obviously ignoring what the people of Canada truly want and support.

I know it will be legalized one day...when though...how many people have to die before this all ends. The money saved could be used for rehabs and education.

Well if you want more info on the 4/20 http://420vancouver.com/event/friday-april-20th-2012/

ELIZABETH MAY- GREEN PARTY - Now they have the correct approach. Her party supports the following and so do I.

The need for a human rights–based approach to drugs policy

http://www.greenparty.ca/fr/node/18675

The Green Party recommends the following actions:
  • Legalize marijuana by removing marijuana from the drug schedule.
  • Create a regulatory framework for the safe production of marijuana by small, independent growers.
  • Develop a taxation rate for marijuana similar to that of tobacco.
  • Establish the sale of marijuana to adults for medicinal or personal use through licensed distribution outlets.
  • Educate the public about the health threats of marijuana, tobacco and other drug use.
  • Provide increased funding to safe injection sites, treatment facilities and addict rehabilitation which have now proven to be economically and socially in the best interests of the country.

Here's my latest painting. I call it "Carefree!"  Named after that "carefree feeling of being a child."

Sorry for my lack of posts lately, I've been busy voluteering teaching computers and painting amongst being a full-time mom and all the other things that come with that. So busy busy busy. I love painting, helps center me and makes me chill.

So I hope to go hang this tomorrow in the evening. So if you pop into Bean Around the World  at 1945 Cornwall (cross street is Walnut ) on Saturday, it will be there to take a closer look. I hope you like it. This is my largest painting yet. Looking forward to doing more and bigger and then eventually colour.

Keyhole Gardening

Check out this brilliant idea. We live in a big apartment complex and the other day I was wondering how we could be more sustainable and use all the garbage for composting. This is a super cool idea.

I found this video on this other website along with helpful step by step photos.  http://www.valhalla-project.com/2012/01/from-africa-to-valhalla-keyhole-garden.html

http://keyholegardens.com/
What is a Keyhole Garden
From "Deb Tolman"
The Keyhole Garden is a waist-high raised garden bed, circular in shape with a slice cut out of the circle to gain entry to a circular basket located in the center.  The basket serves to efficiently water and fertilize the plants in the garden – water-rich, compostable waste is placed in the basket, allowing nutrients and moisture to flow out to the roots of the plants.  This garden allows the conservation-minded gardener to recycle, compost, and grow a surprisingly large quantity of local produce in one six foot circular bed.  And Dr. Deb adds, “you’ll never have to bend over while gardening again!”

SHAME ON the Real Housewives of Vancouver for MISS REPRESENTATION

Blog post by Tina Winterlik © 2012

APRIL 12/ 2013 UPDATE:

Real Housewives of Vancouver: Going out with a bang

http://www2.macleans.ca/2013/04/10/real-housewives-of-vancouver-going-out-with-a-bang/

After reading this and all the comments (be sure to read the comments below the article) maybe now they'll finally get rid of this show. Or at least re-cast with some "healthy" women.  So sad...sad for women, sad for men, children, sad for Vancouverites, just plain SAD!! Stop Miss Representing Women!! and Vancouver!

Original Post: April 5/2012

SHAME ON "The Real Housewives of Vancouver "  television program and "Slice" too. SHAME ON YOU for MISS REPRESENTING women and especially the women of Vancouver.

I haven't been able to sleep well all night as this post was begging to be written so I got up early to share it. First let me tell you that I have seen ads for "Real Housewives for Whereever" and watched a little bit and I was more offended than impressed by what I saw, so I have never watched more than a 10 -20 minutes.

But when I saw that they were doing a show in Vancouver, my first reaction was "OH NO!" how could they!! So I had to watch and see how bad it would be. I knew there would be lots of Vancouver scenery and so I was curious.

So last night I watched and it lived up to every bit of it's reputation.

Shameful.

I just have a few comments and then I will put this puppy to bed and get on with my day. First, Jody you are a bully.  It doesn't matter if you have money or not, if you are self made or not, it's not appropriate to tell someone in front of a TV camera and a zillion viewers that a person  is an idiot and that they need therapy. It doesn't take rocket science to know that compassion is required.

That conversation should be held quietly together and in a very quiet comforting way suggest to that person they could get some counseling. You were so condescending and righteous it was really disturbing and sad.

Christina OMG, obviously you've suffered some kind of abuse that has put you where you are today. SHAME ON everyone for allowing that whole birthday party scene to be on TV. What does that say to everyone. Everything that women work so hard for to demonstrate to men, children, women, the world that we are intelligent powerful creative entities that deserve respect, flew out the window.

I seriously hope that you will be okay after this and you don't hurt yourself or others as I believe you need therapy and you have been damaged, but I believe you are a good person, you've just been hurt and abused and now it's all coming out in inappropriate ways.

For all the women on the REAL HOUSEWIVES OF VANCOUVER  with children, shame on you. How are those young men going to think after that. What will they think about women. How will they treat women. Badly, I imagine, because you MISS REPRESENTED US. You misrepresented all women on that show because in today's messed up society people believe what they see and this especially true in the media.

What did Jody say, something about you shouldn't judge until you walk in others shoes, OMG lady, do you hear yourself.  Why don't you go down to the DTES   http://www.dtes.ca/cms/and have a walk in the shoes around there.

And actually that's what I would like to say to all of you, since you have done all this damage to all women by misrepresenting us all so badly in the media, you should pay for your crimes by selling off some of those cars and houses and $1100 jeans and go make a difference.

I was trying to figure out why each of you did this, obviously Jody you want to promote your book and Mary you are trying to go back to singing, Christina your looking for someone new and I haven't figured out Ronnie or Reiko's agenda's but "WOW, all I can say was WHAT WERE YOU THINKING!!"

Okay I've vented, I'm not saying I'm perfect or better or have all the answers or that I haven't  made stupid mistakes, because I have. What I am saying is that now that you have done this terrible thing please fix it.

The REAL WOMEN OF VANCOUVER and of EVERYWHERE DESERVE IT!! as well as their husband, children, parents, families, society and the world in general.

You have tons of money, so you have no excuse not to.
