Whales can not carrying their young full term because they don't have enough wild salmon to eat! Salmon are a keystone species
"I am salmon
It is possible through scientific techniques to measure the amount of nutrients originating from dead salmon that are sequestered into trees, bugs, our bodies or even a glass of wine. Salmon hatched as far south as the wine-growing watersheds of California head out to the open ocean, migrate and feed in the North Pacific and return back to California to spawn, die, and decompose. Up to a quarter of the nitrogen found in the leaves of grape plants in these watersheds originate from the carcasses of salmon. There are thousands of individual streams in the Canada's Pacific North Coast that support various species of salmon. These salmon provide a significant role transferring nutrients from marine to terrestrial ecosystems, and supporting species from grizzly bears to water shrews. And the millions of juvenile salmon that feed along Canada's coastal waters are themselves an essential food source for many other species. Every thing that depends on them will die if the salmon die. Now is the time to stand up and protect our sacred wild salmon. Link arms with the The Wild Salmon Defenders Alliance, who will rally in solidarity with Musgamagw Dzawada'enuxw, Namgis and Mamalilikulla who are occupying two fish farms to assert their Indigenous rights and responsibilities to care for their unceded territory and fishing resources

Sea wolves survive on salmon too! Many many animals, plants, people depend on the salmon. It is a a keystone species and must be protected at all costs.

"From mayflies whose life span is only hours long to millennia-old red cedars, salmon are enmeshed throughout all coastal species." http://www.davidsuzuki.org/issues/oceans/science/marine-planning-and-conservation/salmon/
While I personally feel that all mass farming and production is wrong, some feel (David Suzuki & Union of BC Indian Chiefs) that at this time, it's time to ground the Open Net-Pen Fish Farms is the best way to move forward at this time. See links below.
