💔 We Need to Say It: Trump Didn't Pull the Trigger, But He Lit the Fire
By Tina Winterlik aka Zipolita
Two elected Democratic lawmakers in Minnesota were shot in their homes in the early morning hours of June 14, 2025.
Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark were murdered.
Senator John Hoffman and his wife Yvette were seriously injured, now recovering in hospital.
The shooter wore police-style body armor, posed as an officer, and targeted these families in what appears to be a politically motivated attack. A manifesto was found. The motive: their political work, their values, their identities.
We need to stop pretending this just came out of nowhere.
This Is Trump’s America — Even Without Trump in Office
I’m going to say what many are afraid to:
Donald Trump may not have pulled the trigger, but like Charles Manson, he inspired it.
He cultivated hate. He directed it.
He gave it permission. And now, it walks the streets in body armor and rings doorbells pretending to be law enforcement.
For years now, Trump and those orbiting him have:
- Called Democrats "enemies of the people"
- Spread conspiracy theories that dehumanize opponents
- Encouraged violence at rallies and protests
- Downplayed white supremacy and promoted authoritarian rhetoric
- Attacked journalists, judges, immigrants, LGBTQ+ people, women, Black and Indigenous communities — anyone who stands up for justice
He’s built a culture where this kind of targeted violence is not just possible — it’s inevitable.
This Never Happened Before Like This
Yes, political violence is not new to America — we remember JFK, MLK, and others — but the open, sustained, and unchecked incitement by a former president is a new level of danger.
Under Trump:
- A mob stormed the U.S. Capitol.
- Paul Pelosi was nearly killed by a MAGA believer looking for his wife, Nancy.
- A governor was nearly kidnapped by far-right extremists.
- School board members, election workers, and health officials have faced threats and armed protests.
Now we have lawmakers executed at home. Where does this end?
Let’s Name It: This Is Political Terrorism
Melissa Hortman was a dedicated public servant.
She fought for education, climate action, and democracy.
She was murdered for it.
This is terrorism — not random, not senseless.
It’s targeted violence with a political message.
And the media needs to say it.
But we can’t rely on corporate news to connect the dots.
We have to be the truth-tellers now.
Accountability Is Not Just Legal — It’s Moral
Some will say Trump can’t be charged for what he "didn’t do."
But let me ask you this:
If Charles Manson could be held responsible for the murders he incited...
If gang leaders can be tried for ordering crimes…
Then why not the man who inspired a coup, a climate of death threats, and now political assassination?
We’re Watching. We’re Grieving. We’re Not Going Quietly.
To the families of Melissa Hortman and John Hoffman — we send love, strength, and fury.
To those who think they can silence us with fear — we are not backing down.
To Trump and his enablers — your legacy is bloodshed, and the world sees it.
We will document. We will remember. We will fight for a future where no one is afraid to serve their community.
✊🏽 No more hiding.
🕊️ No more silence.
🖊️ Share. Write. Speak. March.
This cannot be normal.
