El ciclón tropical Erick continuó su fortalecimiento gradual y ahora es un huracán categoría 1 al momento de redactar este aviso.

Recuerde que un ciclón tropical que se fortalece pasa por 3 etapas:

1. Depresión Tropical
2. Tormenta Tropical
3. Huracán

Erick ya ha pasado por esas tres fases. Una vez en etapa de huracán, puede alcanzar hasta 5 categorías, si las condiciones en la troposfera y el océano lo permiten. Todo pronóstico se basa en probabilidades.

Probabilidad de que toque tierra como:

• 🌧️ Tormenta Tropical: casi 0%
• 🌬️ Huracán Categoría 1: 20%
• 🌪️ Huracán Categoría 2: 40%
• 🔥 Huracán Categoría 3 o superior: 40%

Es decir, hay un 40% de probabilidad de que llegue como huracán de gran intensidad (categoría 3, 4 o 5). Se recuerda que la forma correcta es decir “huracán de gran intensidad” y no “huracán mayor”.

Aunque existe posibilidad de que llegue solo como categoría 1, todas las personas deben prepararse para el peor escenario: un huracán de gran intensidad.

Trayectoria: Se mantiene el pronóstico con pocos cambios. El centro de Erick podría tocar tierra cerca del límite entre Guerrero y Oaxaca. Pero recuerde que la trayectoria siempre tiene incertidumbre. Un ciclón tropical no es un punto; sus efectos abarcan una gran área.

Tropical Cyclone Erick has continued its gradual strengthening and is now officially a Category 1 Hurricane at the time of this bulletin.

Remember, a strengthening tropical cyclone goes through 3 main stages:

1. Tropical Depression
2. Tropical Storm
3. Hurricane

Erick has now passed all three. Once a system becomes a hurricane, it can be classified into up to 5 categories if atmospheric and oceanic conditions are favorable. Weather forecasts are always based on probabilities.

Probability of landfall as:

• 🌧️ Tropical Storm: almost 0%
• 🌬️ Category 1 Hurricane: 20%
• 🌪️ Category 2 Hurricane: 40%
• 🔥 Category 3 or higher: 40%

This means there is a 40% chance it could arrive as a High-Intensity Hurricane (Category 3, 4, or 5). It's important to note that the correct term is “High-Intensity Hurricane,” not “Major Hurricane.”

While there’s a possibility it may only reach Category 1, everyone should prepare for the worst-case scenario, which would be a High-Intensity Hurricane.

Trajectory: The forecast remains mostly unchanged. The center of Erick could make landfall near the border between Guerrero and Oaxaca. But remember, hurricane paths always carry uncertainty. A tropical cyclone is not a point; its effects extend across a large area.
