Unqualified and Unaccountable: Why BC’s Housing Crisis Keeps Getting Worse"

We are in a housing emergency — not just a crisis. Seniors are living with mice, disabled people are couch surfing, and thousands are waiting years with no updates, no options, and no hope.

And who’s in charge of this disaster?

👉 Ravi Kahlon, BC’s Housing Minister — a man with zero experience in housing, planning, or social policy.

He’s a former banker and an Olympian field hockey player. That’s great for sports and finance — but what does it have to do with fixing a collapsing housing system?

Nothing.
And it shows.

🔍 What’s Going On?

  • BC Housing waitlist has exploded.
Over 14,000 seniors are on the list. Many have been waiting five to ten years, with no updates.

  • “Affordable housing” is a scam.
Most so-called "below-market" units are still out of reach for anyone on a fixed income or disability.

  • People are being passed over by those with connections or “inside access.”
This is NOT a fair or transparent process — it’s a cruel lottery that favors the privileged.

💸 Scammy, Broken, and Dangerous

What BC Housing is doing feels like fraud. They take your application, give you hope, then disappear.

  • No accountability.
  • No transparency.
  • No priority given to the most vulnerable.

All while developers get incentives, politicians cut ribbons, and the rest of us suffer.

This is not just mismanagement — this is systemic neglect.

🧠 We Need Real Leadership

Housing is a complex issue. It needs someone with:

  • Knowledge of urban planning
  • Experience in housing justice or poverty work
  • Compassion for those living on the edge

We don’t need photo ops and empty promises.
We need results — and the current minister isn’t delivering.

📢 Our Demands:

  1. Immediate investigation into BC Housing’s allocation process
  2. Replacement of Ravi Kahlon with someone who understands the crisis and has relevant experience
  3. Transparent data on waitlists, outcomes, and how decisions are made
  4. Real affordability based on actual income, not market trends
  5. Urgent construction of public and non-profit housing on public land

💬 Closing Thoughts

This isn’t just about “bad management.” It’s about a lack of care for the most vulnerable people in our province.

We deserve a minister who understands what’s at stake.
We deserve a housing system that works.
And our elders, disabled neighbours, and low-income families deserve dignity, not delays.
