Screenplay Idea: "The Great Northern Standoff"
Premise:
In a not-so-distant future, a group of U.S. billionaires concocts a scheme to "liberate" Canada under the guise of economic partnership. Little do they know, Canadians have united in an unprecedented grassroots movement to defend their homeland.
Tone:
A satirical comedy with moments of heartfelt resistance.
Characters:
1. Maple (protagonist): A quirky environmental activist who becomes the unlikely leader of the resistance.
2. Doug (antagonist): A brash U.S. oligarch who thinks he can buy Canada like he’s shopping for groceries.
3. The Moose Brigade: A ragtag group of Canadians, including farmers, Indigenous leaders, and artists, who outwit the invaders with cunning strategies and humor.
Climactic Scene:
The Moose Brigade tricks the oligarchs into attending a "business deal" at a Tim Hortons, where they are served legal documents outlining Canada’s sovereignty, all while being serenaded by a choir singing a defiant version of "O Canada."
Message:
Canada’s strength lies in its unity, humour, and refusal to take itself too seriously—except when it comes to protecting what truly matters.
