Alexandra Morton - my hero- fighting so hard to save the wild salmon that are endangered by the fish farms in the ocean all along the the salmons migration routes. She stated that the whales can't carry their babies full term because they don't get enough to eat. David Suzuki talked about the fish farms containing Atlantic salmon that become diseased in the pens and the crap below causes our beautiful precious sacred WILD SALMON to become sick. This MUST STOP AT ONCE!!

WE NEED EVERYONE TO LEARN AND GET ON BOARD QUICKLY!!

Been Busy...might take a break!

Hello Everyone,
I have been busy... and haven't had enough time to post everything I wanted to. That said it might be time for a break.

Everyone is out having fun or not...depending where you live. The fires up north, oh so awful, so sad. Fire triggers me after having been through the fire in Zipolite and my cabana burned.

I went to a Site C protest, I have video but never got it edited to where I was happy and then we had the Gathering of Canoes... here are a few videos but they don't do the event justice and I want to re-do these.

We were blessed and got free tix to Folk Fest so that was a lot of fun.

And some friends graciously invited us to Parksville and I got to go to Enos Lake and while we didn't actually get to where my great great grandfather and great great grandmother lived
https://mylangaratrccarvingjourney.blogspot.ca/2016/11/enos-poirier-ancestry-kalapuya-iroquois.html we could imagine they walk on that land. We also visited Parkville and Qualicum and Coombs were lots of fun and we went to the Cathedral forest so I have so much to show... but not enough time. I will post videos for that hopefully soon. I made one but it was just for family.

Oh, and I cut my hair, if you know me that was a really big deal but it was very long, hot and heavy and I was overheated(I thought I was going to have a stroke or something...I was just so hot) and just finally did it and I am happy. Now I will grow it again.

I will make a bunch of videos later when I have a chance to catch my breath. Just been going and going it seems. July is always a busy month.

And the most recent is I made cards of my paintings and I will be selling them to raise funds so we can get down to Mexico.

https://zipolita.com/2017/07/22/cards-for-sale/

https://zipolita.com/2017/07/22/cards-for-sale/

So please for give me for not blogging more. There has been so many exciting changes with John Horgan getting in (I voted Green but happy Christy Clark is history. And today the CEO of BC hydro got fired so I pray Site C will be stopped. Praying lots of good changes are coming. John raised the welfare and disability a bit but it's not going to help the housing crisis or child poverty...has to go a lot higher with rents $1000 a month but we can hope...

I loved the swearing in ceremony, it was really beautiful with the dancing, drumming and singing.  We need #Reconcilaction was the message and I hope everyone was listening.

TOMORROW is the DRUM CALLING FESTIVAL
I will be going down there when I can and you should too!! Don't miss it!!

I just want to ask everyone to make a donation to the RED CROSS as there are 43,000 people evacuated and 43 homes lost to fires. https://donate.redcross.ca/ea-action/action?ea.client.id=1951&ea.campaign.id=74010

Tonight we have a little rain and I am very grateful as the smog from the fires has been bugging me and giving me itchy eyes and throat and it isn't even that bad compared to up north. Please say prayers that the fires go out and things calm and people can go home.

Okay take care, hope your summer is going well.
Sending love and light out to you all.
Cheers, Tina

Paddle for the Peace-VANIER PARK- JULY 8

Come on Vancouver, LET'S SHOW SOME LOVE FOR THE PEACE RIVER!!! Go to Vanier Park July 8!! #StopSiteC

On July 8th, our friends up north will be hosting the 12th Annual Paddle for the Peace to celebrate and defend the beautiful Peace River against the Site C dam (https://paddleforthepeace.ca/).

Why here? Here in the Lower Mainland, we want to give people who cannot make it to the Paddle an opportunity to show their solidarity with the Treaty 8 First Nations and the farmers who are losing their land to Site C - as well as their opposition to a project that will affect all of us for years to come!

You're invited! Please join us on July 8th at 1 pm at Vanier Park (by the Maritime Museum) in Vancouver to stand in opposition to this ridiculous dam and to enjoy a fun, family-friendly carnival themed afternoon of entertainment.

From 1-3 pm, enjoy speakers, performances, roving entertainers, and action tables where you can write to your representatives, sign postcards, volunteer, or find other ways to get involved in the movement!

Our featured speaker will be Helen Knott, an incredible poet and activist from Prophet River First Nation. We are honoured and thrilled to have Helen joining us!

We've confirmed stiltwalkers, puppeteers, hula-hoopers, poi spinners, musicians, poets, dancers, balloon sculptures, giant inflatable animals, and many other exciting and fun entertainers and activities! This is going to be an event to remember!

Want to paddle?
The BC Sea Wolves will lead a symbolic paddle from Granville Island to Vanier Park. If you would like to join the paddle, please be prepared to meet at Granville Island at 12 pm sharp. You can rent kayaks from Ecomarine Paddlesports. Sign up to paddle here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/FFBRFYN . Please note that only experienced paddlers should join this paddle, as we are not able to provide guarantees for your safety on the water.

To help with the organizing, or if your organization would like to endorse or support this event, please email sitecevents@gmail.com.

This event is presented by FightC, Force of Nature, Wilderness Committee and Climate Convergence Metro Vancouver.

Carving at the KANATA FESTIVAL!

So if you are like me, you are confused and struggling today with this whole day. I am not going to celebrate colonialism today. That feels so wrong and I had a good long cry in the tub this morning. I wasn't the only one crying, did you see it's raining in Ottawa.

That's the ancestors crying. :(

We did have a lovely time at the Kanata Festival(taking place on the  Unceded Coast Salish Territories) yesterday and I might pop down for a bit today but I will share these photos here. I encourage you all to go to the Kanata Festival and show your support.

#Canada150plus #Canada150+ #KanataFestival

I have to remember what Harold Joe taught me yesterday. He spoke how cedar teaches us patience. He reminded me of how a cedar tree can grow to be 1500 years old..."now that's patience " he said.

Oh how I need patience. I keep thinking everyone is going to wake up and get on board and when they don't it hurts. I am not even the ones that were in residential school and none of my family was but still I have so much empathy. I hurt for them and all the people who suffered from that Residential school legacy and the damage caused by colonialism to these beautiful souls and to the Mother Earth.

I do feel pain though for my great grandma's (Kalapuya, Iroquois, Metis) and great great grandma's (Songhees) because I know they suffered and this is what they call the intergenerational trauma. That trauma is passed through the womb of our mothers, the lifegivers, the matriarchs. The stresses they felt we feel. But I feel contorted because of the settler side too, the Bohemian, Swedish & Portuguese.

So I pray for patience and I need to get some wood so I can carve...carve out all this anxiety and pain and frustration of this day. It's almost over. It's just one day but to think that $500 million was spent. I can not imagine how much money that is...truly...but I can imagine how many people it COULD have helped.

So I am going to share my photos here and let you see what fun we had. Thank you Harold Joe for your patience and guidance and letting us carve on your house post. Truly grateful!!
O'Siem. I hold my hands up to you!

Photography by Tina Winterlik aka Zipolita © 2017

What was neat was the day before we had visited and I had walked into the longhouse, taken a photo of the inside but had missed it from the outside and I wanted to get that photo...then I saw the Kitsilano/Khatsahlano sign and a big bell went off in my head...because that is my neighbourhood and there was the housepost and the carver- who turned out to be Harold Joe- he's from Cowichan.
So that was super special to me. A sign!
