πŸ˜πŸŽ¨πŸ–Œ️❤️πŸ˜ŽπŸ–Ό️πŸ€—πŸ˜˜πŸŽ„πŸ₯ΆπŸ˜

Dress Warm!!

DON’T MISS THE WINTER FAIR AT VANIER PARK — THIS SUNDAY, DECEMBER 7 (11–5)! πŸŽ‰❄️πŸŽ„

I’m excited to share this — and yes, it’s actually SUNDAY (not Saturday — I was tired and mixed it up! πŸ˜…). The Winter Fair at Vanier Park is happening this Sunday, December 7th from 11 AM to 5 PM, and it’s going to be such a fun, festive day. 🎨🧣✨

Before anything else, I just want to acknowledge that Vanier Park sits on land known as Sen̓Γ‘αΈ΅w, the ancestral village of the Squamish Nation. 🌿❤️

Now — onto all the good stuff! 🎁🎢

The whole park will be buzzing with creativity, music, food, and holiday spirit. 🎷πŸͺ☕ There will be wonderful local artists and makers selling handmade gifts, crafts, art, and treasures — perfect for supporting the community and maybe finishing your holiday shopping. πŸ–Ό️πŸ§΅πŸŽ„

You’ll also find food trucks, warm drinks, yummy treats, and lots of family-friendly entertainment throughout the day. πŸ΄πŸ€—✨

Plus, the three amazing cultural spaces right there — the Vancouver Maritime Museum 🚒, the Museum of Vancouver πŸ›️, and the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre 🌌 — will all be offering pay-what-you-can admission for the day. Such a great chance to explore and enjoy!

There’s even a festive photo and costume corner thanks to Bard on the Beach — perfect for fun winter pictures with friends or family. πŸ“ΈπŸŽ❄️

So come join us this Sunday, December 7th, from 11–5 at Vanier Park. Bring your friends, bring your kids, bring your holiday spirit — it’s going to be a lovely day by the water. πŸŒŠπŸŽ„πŸ˜Š

See you there! ❤️✨

Paddle for the Peace-VANIER PARK- JULY 8

Come on Vancouver, LET'S SHOW SOME LOVE FOR THE PEACE RIVER!!! Go to Vanier Park July 8!! #StopSiteC

On July 8th, our friends up north will be hosting the 12th Annual Paddle for the Peace to celebrate and defend the beautiful Peace River against the Site C dam (https://paddleforthepeace.ca/).

Why here? Here in the Lower Mainland, we want to give people who cannot make it to the Paddle an opportunity to show their solidarity with the Treaty 8 First Nations and the farmers who are losing their land to Site C - as well as their opposition to a project that will affect all of us for years to come!

You're invited! Please join us on July 8th at 1 pm at Vanier Park (by the Maritime Museum) in Vancouver to stand in opposition to this ridiculous dam and to enjoy a fun, family-friendly carnival themed afternoon of entertainment.

From 1-3 pm, enjoy speakers, performances, roving entertainers, and action tables where you can write to your representatives, sign postcards, volunteer, or find other ways to get involved in the movement!

Our featured speaker will be Helen Knott, an incredible poet and activist from Prophet River First Nation. We are honoured and thrilled to have Helen joining us!

We've confirmed stiltwalkers, puppeteers, hula-hoopers, poi spinners, musicians, poets, dancers, balloon sculptures, giant inflatable animals, and many other exciting and fun entertainers and activities! This is going to be an event to remember!

Want to paddle?
The BC Sea Wolves will lead a symbolic paddle from Granville Island to Vanier Park. If you would like to join the paddle, please be prepared to meet at Granville Island at 12 pm sharp. You can rent kayaks from Ecomarine Paddlesports. Sign up to paddle here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/FFBRFYN . Please note that only experienced paddlers should join this paddle, as we are not able to provide guarantees for your safety on the water.

New Mural NEEDED at Maritime Museum & More

Updated May 18 2017  See Update at the bottom

------------------
As someone who has lived in Kitsilano off and on the last 20 years I have seen this mural at the Vancouver Maritime Museum countless time and I mostly ignored it. I never found it interesting...it always bothered me but I didn't do anything.

But now it really bothers me. Look at it.
The First Nations are on the outside and look at how they are depicted in comparison to the the Military dudes. Pleasee help I might vomit...

There's not a single woman represented.

This mural was created in 1986, probably for Expo 86 and it HAS GOT TO GO!!

So I have sent an email and I hope I get a response. This was part of it...

Please for Canada150+  and for Reconciliation change it to reflect the truth. We know so much more now. Please...that whole area ..has a history no one acknowledges..and yet we occupy it. I challenge you to do something about it for Reconciliation. I hope you will consider my suggestion. Thanks

Here is a write up on it.

And then while searching their site I saw this. wth...this is for kids...
 WHAT WAR IS GOOD FOR???

OMG...there go my cookies...woof....ralph...Somebody help me please....

Today I saw they were trying to raise money for this

and I suggested on the Facebook page a new mural instead.
Here is part of the letter I wrote to them, let's see if the respond.
I was wondering if you are planning on a new mural. I mentioned on Instagram a while back but heard nothing. The mural should represent Indigenous people bigger or as big as the colonialists and should feature women too!. That mural is 1986 and it is a very visual and I think (negative )influence on all who pass.

Please for Canada150+  and for Reconciliation change it to reflect the truth. We know so much more now. Please...that whole area ..has a history no one acknowledges..and yet we occupy it. I challenge you to do something about it for Reconciliation. I hope you will consider my suggestion. Thanks

I know some people who do murals, create beautiful Coast Salish designs and I have reached out to a few. I did a lot of research on Coast Salish designs as well.

Sharifah is working on a mural and I know she did one for the NEC

Kim is an excellent artist and she went through the Reconciliation Carving with me.

Audrey Siegl

Justine Wallace is an excellent artist and she went through the Reconciliation Carving with me.

I hope to hear back from everyone, most especially you, very soon.

Pirates & Tallships in #thisismyvancouver

Blog post by Tina Winterlik © 2011

"Captain Sean" wrote this on the Stamps Landing Yacht Club, and I'll let him have the honor of describing it as he does it so well.

Last weekend two tall ships, the Lady Washington (of Pirates of the Caribbean fame) and the Hawaiian Chieftain, visited Vancouver, mooring at the Maritime Museum. On Saturday and Sunday they sailed around English Bay firing cannons at each other for the afternoon, very fun to watch!
Hana was out there on Sunday, with Annie and my friends Tina and Angel for crew. Drift Away and Angelina also joined in on the fun, and Pallas Athena passed by as well. Tina put together a terrific collage of photos and video, complete with some Down East folk music playing in the background. Great job on the video, Tina!
