The Empty Condos Saga – Part 5:

The Empty Condos Saga – Part 5: Reckoning & What’s Next

After years of empty towers, speculation, and political spin, Vancouver finally started to act — but only partially. The Empty Homes Tax (2017) and the foreign buyer tax aimed to curb speculation, yet thousands of units remain unoccupied, and housing remains out of reach for many.

The truth is clear: housing isn’t a commodity — it’s a human right. And while policies like vacancy taxes are steps in the right direction, real change requires imagination, courage, and community focus.

Enter tiny houses, co-ops, and community-led housing initiatives. Instead of letting condos sit dark, these could provide affordable, dignified homes — and build real communities.

And yes, let’s not forget a little Vancouver humor: maybe the first tiny houses should go on Point Grey Road, with a bike lane right in front of Chip Wilson’s mansion. That way, everyone sees what housing truly looks like when it’s meant for people, not profit.

The Empty Condos Saga isn’t just about buildings — it’s about accountability, fairness, and a vision for a city that actually houses its residents. Vancouver can choose a skyline of empty towers, or it can choose homes with hearts. The choice is ours.

🎯 That completes the 5-part saga!
