Part 2 – Fear Returns

Part 2 – Fear Returns ⚠️

Decades after I left Abbotsford, I watch from afar as the city I grew up in faces new threats. Rising extortion and violence is shaking families, businesses, and communities across the town.

The Abbotsford Police Department has created a dedicated extortion task force, but fear is widespread. Many residents hesitate to report crimes, worried about retaliation or being caught in the middle.

The patterns are haunting. Then, it was heavy-handed policing traumatizing youth and marginalized communities; now, it’s organized criminals preying on fear. The thread is the same: ordinary people caught in the crossfire of power, authority, and control.

Abbotsford’s energy remains complicated. Churches still line the streets, the prison still looms nearby, and echoes of old fears ripple into the present. Observing from a distance, it’s clear that history is not gone — it reverberates, shaping the town’s present struggles and the anxieties of its people.
