Missing in Vancouver: Zenaeh Edwards-Helgason and the Young Adults Failed by the System

Missing in Vancouver: Zenaeh Edwards-Helgason and the Young Adults Failed by the System

Vancouver Police are asking for the public’s help in locating 20-year-old Zenaeh Edwards-Helgason, who has been missing since Thursday evening, November 13. Zenaeh was last seen near St. Paul’s Hospital around 6:20 p.m. She is insulin dependent, making her health at serious risk.

Zenaeh is described as 5’5”, shoulder-length blonde hair, hazel eyes, and was last seen wearing a black puffy jacket, leggings, black shoes, and carrying a handbag. Anyone who sees her is urged to call 9-1-1 immediately and stay with her until help arrives.

But Zenaeh’s story also reminds us of a broader crisis: young adults in Vancouver and across BC who are failing to get the support they desperately need. Many have grown up in foster care or group homes, experienced abuse or neglect, and lost friends and family to tragedy. Some have ended up on streets like Downtown Eastside or living far from home, struggling to survive.

We see this pattern too often: the system meant to protect these young people leaves them isolated, vulnerable, and in danger. Zenaeh’s disappearance is a stark reminder that urgent action, community awareness, and compassion are needed—not just for her, but for all young adults navigating life without a reliable safety net.

If you have information about Zenaeh, please contact 9-1-1 immediately. She needs our help, and she needs it now.
