Paddle for the Peace- Vanier Park July 8th

Repost from here. Paddle for the Peace- Vancouver
On July 8th, our friends up north will be hosting the 12th Annual Paddle for the Peace to celebrate and defend the beautiful Peace River (https://paddleforthepeace.ca/). Why here?

Here in the Lower Mainland, we want to give people who cannot make it to the Paddle an opportunity to show their solidarity with the Treaty 8 First Nations and the farmers who are losing their land to Site C - as well as their opposition to a project that will affect all of us for years to come!

You're invited! Please join us on July 8th at 1 pm at Vanier Park in Vancouver to stand in opposition to this ridiculous dam and to enjoy a fun, family-friendly carnival themed afternoon of entertainment.

Want to paddle? The BC Sea Wolves will lead a symbolic paddle from Granville Island to Vanier Park. If you would like to join the paddle, please be prepared to launch from Granville Island at 12 pm sharp. You can rent kayaks from Ecomarine Paddlesports. Sign up to paddle here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/FFBRFYN

Hivemind: We are also issuing a call for acrobats, street performers, puppeteers, and entertainers of all kinds, especially those related to carnivals! If you would like to perform at this event, please email sitecevents@gmail.com.

More details to come - stay tuned, and invite your friends and family to help STOP SITE C!

To help with the organizing, or if your organization would like to endorse or support this event, please email sitecevents@gmail.com.

We acknowledge that this event takes place on unceded and occupied Coast Salish territory, specifically that of the Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), and mi ce:p kʷətxʷiləm (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

HUNGER STRIKER Kristin Henry has Message for Justin Trudeau

Message to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau from Kristen Henry
She is on her 15th day of a HUNGER STRIKE!

She is on this HUNGER STRIKE to protest and STOP THE SITE C DAM PROJECT!!

PLEASE LISTEN AND SAVE THE PEACE RIVER VALLEY NOW!

Site C is a proposed 60-metre high, 1,050-metre-long hydroelectric dam on the Peace River on Treaty 8 territory in northeastern British Columbia. It would create an 83-kilometre-long reservoir submerging 78 First Nations heritage sites, burial grounds and places of cultural and spiritual significance in flagrant violation of the Constitution Act, while also flooding approximately 5,550 hectares of ALR land.

Kristin Henry says she’s pitting her life against the province’s desire to put this through.
“It just has to stop. They’re doing drastic things and it’s kind of calling for drastic measures. They’re going to do everything they can to push this project through and I’m going to do everything I personally can to stop it.”

“We’re running out of clean water. We’re running out of clean land and air. All the things we actually need to survive,” she argues.

The Vancouver woman says the hunger strike is also symbolic because the where the dam will flood is considered good agricultural land and valuable to indigenous people.
