Kristin
has been taken to hospital on day 19. Her heart rate dropped to
concerning levels. An ambulance was called and she is now at St. Paul's.
I was really worried for Kristin, I myself have hypoglycemia and I can't go without eating or I get sick really fast. Poor Kristin, she tried so hard but now she is in the hospital. She was taken there last night after her heart rate dropped.
If you are unaware, Kristin Henry has taken a heroic stand to STAND UP to BCHYDRO & BC Liberals, calling on them to STOP SITE C.
Her hunger strike while ALL TOO REAL was symbolic of the HUNGER we WILL ALL FACE if this project goes ahead. With Climate Change heating everything up, yesterday we were 17 degrees- a record not broken since 1941, there is no doubt that California will and is facing challenges.
We import a ridiculous amount of food, something like 85% and grocery prices are going through the roof. We have poor homeless hungry people EVERYWHERE and the highest child poverty rate. Flooding the PEACE RIVER VALLEY is absolutely the STUPIDEST move this province could make.
We have this GARDEN OF EDEN waiting for us, if it's not destroyed first with FLOODING AND FRACKING!!!
Stephen Harper APPROVED the current permits that are allowing INDIGENOUS people to be forced off sacred land and is in total violation of TREATY 8. His corrupt legacy crammed through the permit in his very last days of office (Elizabeth May mentioned this) and we are ALL going to pay the price.
DON'T LET HARPER WIN!! The whole thing is before the courts, and while delay after delay and time goes on, the PEACE RIVER VALLEY is being destroyed.
IT'S TIME PEOPLE!! Time for you to STAND UP!!
STAND BEHIND KRISTIN!!
Rally for the PEACE RIVER VALLEY! STOP SITE C.
Message to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau from Kristen Henry
She is on her 15th day of a HUNGER STRIKE!
She is on this HUNGER STRIKE to protest and STOP THE SITE C DAM PROJECT!!
PLEASE LISTEN AND SAVE THE PEACE RIVER VALLEY NOW!
Site C is a proposed 60-metre high, 1,050-metre-long hydroelectric dam
on the Peace River on Treaty 8 territory in northeastern British
Columbia. It would create an 83-kilometre-long reservoir submerging 78
First Nations heritage sites, burial grounds and places of cultural and
spiritual significance in flagrant violation of the Constitution Act,
while also flooding approximately 5,550 hectares of ALR land.

Kristin Henry says she’s pitting her life against the province’s desire to put this through.
“It just has to stop. They’re doing drastic things and it’s kind of
calling for drastic measures. They’re going to do everything they can to
push this project through and I’m going to do everything I personally
can to stop it.”
“We’re running out of clean water. We’re running out of clean land
and air. All the things we actually need to survive,” she argues.
The Vancouver woman says the hunger strike is also symbolic because
the where the dam will flood is considered good agricultural land and
valuable to indigenous people.

Justin, how far will this go? Please TAKE ACTION!! Young people should NOT be starving themselves to get the government to ACT!!
These are desperate times and you know it. We don't have enough food, people are hungry, we have the highest child poverty in Canada and to Flood the Peace makes no sense and YOU KNOW IT!!
"Arriving back at the Rocky Mountain Fort Camp the day after they managed
to get their feller-buncher past our fire keepers was devastating. The
corridor they rammed into the forest had the feel of a grisly murder
scene. Trees older than Treaty 8 lay on the forest floor, separated from
their mammoth trunks. I sat beside a large cottonwood tree and cried,
the tears freezing to my face in the -20C weather and opened my heart to
feel what had just happened. And that’s when the trees began to speak.
All they could ask is how someone could cut them down without seeing
them? Without pausing for even a second to think of their lives and
honour them? Not for one moment was the more than a century of their
lives given a moment of pause. They asked over and over why their lives
didn’t mean anything. I had no answer. All I could do is lay tobacco and
tell them that we saw them and we honoured them." Read More here.https://redpowermedia.wordpress.com/2016/03/05/you-cant-injunction-sacred/

A recent injunction has led to a peaceful dissolution of the camp at the
Site C damn on Treaty 8 lands. In response, activists have gathered in
front of BC Hydro (Vancouver) Coast Salish Territories, and were called
to hunger strike, immediately following the court ruling.

Solidarity is unity (as of a group or class)
which produces or is based on unities of interests, objectives,
standards, and sympathies. It refers to the ties in a society that bind
people together as one.

Supporters
of Treaty 8 Stewards of the Land Camp daily hunger strike after the
northern camp was dismantled by the RCMP. Please show your support by
attending the BC Hydro building. Not everyone is expected to hunger
strike!
Beginning on Thursday, we invite everyone to gather daily from 8am to
5pm with the intention of shaming BC Hydro, who are violating treaty 8
rights and preparing to decimate vital agricultural lands in the Peace
Valley.
"The hunger strike was called immediately following the
aggressive RCMP attendance at the Site C/Treaty 8 Stewards of the Land
Camp on Tuesday, March 1st, 2016.
Justice Bruce Butler approved B.C. Hydro’s application for an interim injunction and enforcement
order to forcibly remove the Treaty 8 Indigenous Land Defenders and
supporters, including local farmers and members of the Peace Valley
Landowners Association. The court order and the riot act were read out
to those at the camp and the RCMP were present until the camp was
dismantled.
We believe B.C. Hydro is a failing and highly
mismanaged Crown Corporation operating with reckless disregard for the
public it is meant to serve. Continued hikes in rates and declining
mining and LNG projects have cost us all enough. It is unacceptable that
despite this, the British Columbia Supreme Court and the B.C.
government have supported B.C. Hydro through its violations of the
public trust and rights of the Indigenous Peoples of our province, whose
territories they access without appropriate consultation and most
certainly without consent. as a result of a flawed and extralegal
permitting process the B.C. Provincial government is conducting.
We find it unacceptable that the RCMP have enforced such injustices on members of the Treaty 8 Stewards of the Land Defenders.
The hunger strikes will be held daily outside the BC Hydro Office from
8am to 5pm. Our demands are the same as the Treaty 8 Stewards of the
Land; No construction until the court case of Treaty violations is
finished and that this project be given a review with the BC Utilities
Commission. "
”The government signed Treaty 8 in the early
1900s on our territory. The proceeded to pressure Indigenous people to
follow and obey it, but in turn they do not honor our Treaty rights. We
were promised to live and thrive continuing our ways of life, our
livelihoods. We did not surrender, lease, rent or sell our lands” Yvonne
Tupper – Member of Treaty 8
“We’re not eating here today to
symbolize how this government is literally flooding the best
agricultural lands of the north that could feed approximately a million
people. "

of any form of justice and reconciliation for Treaty 8.” – Tamo Campos
David Suzuki's letter to BC Hydro's CEO Jessica MacDonald re Site C yesterday
Sent: Wednesday, March 02, 2016 11:43 AM
To: Jessica MacDonald
Subject: Letter from David Suzuki
Dear Jessica,
I’m deeply disappointed with BC Hydro's heavy-handed tactics in dealing
with Treaty 8 community members and their supporters, who had been
camped at the historical Rocky Mountain Fort in the Peace Valley for
weeks. I'm told efforts had been made to broker a discussion between
people at the camp and you before Hydro sought a court injunction to
remove them.
Throughout the regulatory process and consultation
with affected First Nations, BC Hydro has never been able to make the
case that power from the Site C dam is needed or that the project is
worth the enormous cost to Indigenous lands and livelihoods, not to
mention prime farmland and wildlife habitat.
Peer-reviewed
research by the David Suzuki Foundation found that nearly two-thirds of
the Peace region has already been devastated by human land use, from
fracking to logging to mining, as well as earlier major hydro
developments on the Peace River. The Joint Review Panel concluded that
the cumulative impacts of this development are massive, and the negative
consequences for First Nations and their treaty rights cannot be
mitigated.
With Treaty 8 First Nations still in court, these
issues remain unresolved. And yet BC Hydro has chosen to steamroll
forward, in the absence of proper due diligence and without social
license to proceed. Expert after expert has concluded that halting
development on the dam to allow these court cases to conclude will not
come at a cost to BC Hydro but will in fact save money for Hydro's
customers.
I urge you to use common sense and halt work on the
Site C dam and sit down with First Nations. The days of running
roughshod over First Nations and local communities must end.
Yours sincerely,
David Suzuki

that are coming. This is going to belong to them when we are gone. And
we need to ensure that it happens. This is our home."
"This is a big fight. I think we are going
to win it! I feel it in my bones that we are in the right spot. We are
