Plugged in and Tapped Out-Part 5

Solutions on the Horizon: Renewable Energy and Community Power

The good news? There are promising solutions emerging to address BC’s energy challenges.

The provincial government’s recent calls for renewable energy projects show an awareness of the problem and a commitment to action. Wind farms, solar arrays, and small-scale hydro projects are all part of the mix.

More importantly, many of these projects involve partnerships with First Nations communities, bringing local knowledge and stewardship to energy development.

Community Power: Taking Control Locally

Community-led renewable energy initiatives offer a powerful way to build resilience and keep energy dollars within BC.

By investing in decentralized, clean energy sources—like rooftop solar panels, small wind turbines, and microgrids—local communities can reduce dependence on distant dams and power plants.

It’s a model that strengthens communities, creates jobs, and helps protect the environment.

But these efforts need support: policy backing, funding, and public awareness.

Death Defying Bathroom Make-Over

Well I'm on a bit of holiday and what do I decide to do...but paint my bathroom. It was so long over do. I had been planning for like a year or maybe 6 months but really for ever.

It's an old bathroom but I know it was painted a few years back but it was sad. It's just ugly. I tried to spruce it up a bit with a new shower curtain and I got new rugs.

Still it was ugly and dirty...because who likes to clean an ugly bathroom...right! Not me!

So today I painted. It was hard. I am short and tried to do that ceiling which turned out to be" truly death defying! "

You should have heard the words out of my mouth as the step slipped on the chair that my friend was supposed be holding so I won't fall...so after that fail I got a better idea.

Tip #1: if you are short use elastics to attached the roller to broom handle.

It worked great. The trickiest part of the day was I was cheap (Tip #2: Don't be cheap) and we bought $ dollar store rollers. Well after like 1 or 2 minutes the things just pop right off. Paint and all...flopping here and there...it was a bit of nightmare. Good thing is it's latex and cleans up with steel wool and elbow grease.

Anyways here's the makeover. Not bad for one afternoon. Now if I could just take on the rest of the house. But oh ya...I'm on holidays. :D
Before

Before- Not my paintings

Ew...pinky tan toilet and sink- I mean thank God I have one but hard to make pretty.

Getting started

After

I was tired, it needed a 2nd coat but by adding clouds and birds it takes your attention away from the blotchy paint.

Sky with Clouds Cieling- it was nasty before.

Cloud/Sky Ceiling

Cloud/Sky Walls

Sea side/Sky with cloud theme

well it's not the best but for a quick fix on one afternoon, I'm happy!!

How to Grow Potates in a Trash Cash

If you've never dug for potatoes, you don't know what you're missing. Finding spuds hiding in dirt is sort of like uncovering buried treasure. That is until your garden fork impales one of the darlings.

Earth Hour

WWF is calling on Canadians to think about how we use and produce energy. To create the best possible future for Canadians and for the planet, let's stop wasting energy, and generate what we need from clean, renewable sources like wind and solar.

Canada can be a world leader in clean energy. But the longer we wait, the more it will cost - both in dollars and environmental impact.
Show your support. Switch off your lights on March 26.
What you can do for Earth Day
Climate change is the biggest environmental threat to our planet and the number one concern for Canadians. We are already seeing its impacts. Participating in Earth Hour is a simple way to show that you want to be a part of the solution and sends a powerful message to others that together we can make a difference.

Everyone is encouraged to participate - individuals, businesses, schools, and organizations. All you have to do is:
  1. Turn off your lights for Earth Hour on Saturday March 26 from 8:30 - 9:30 pm
  2. Pledge your support online
  3. Spread the word:
