Plugged in and Tapped Out-Part 5

Solutions on the Horizon: Renewable Energy and Community Power

The good news? There are promising solutions emerging to address BC’s energy challenges.

The provincial government’s recent calls for renewable energy projects show an awareness of the problem and a commitment to action. Wind farms, solar arrays, and small-scale hydro projects are all part of the mix.

More importantly, many of these projects involve partnerships with First Nations communities, bringing local knowledge and stewardship to energy development.

Community Power: Taking Control Locally

Community-led renewable energy initiatives offer a powerful way to build resilience and keep energy dollars within BC.

By investing in decentralized, clean energy sources—like rooftop solar panels, small wind turbines, and microgrids—local communities can reduce dependence on distant dams and power plants.

It’s a model that strengthens communities, creates jobs, and helps protect the environment.

But these efforts need support: policy backing, funding, and public awareness.

Plugged in and Tapped Out- Part 4

Facing the Heat: Rising Demand and Our Energy Crunch

Hotter summers are becoming the new normal in British Columbia. With heat waves increasing in frequency and intensity, more people are turning to air conditioners and cooling systems to stay safe and comfortable.

This surge in cooling demand is putting extra pressure on an already strained electricity grid.

Remember: BC’s hydroelectric system depends on water—water that’s becoming less reliable every year due to shrinking snowpacks and droughts.

The Perfect Storm: More Heat, Less Power

Here’s the challenge:

  • More heat → higher electricity use for air conditioning and cooling
  • Less water → less hydroelectric power available to meet that demand
  • More AI and tech growth → even greater power needs

Without smart planning and investment, we risk blackouts, higher power costs, and an unstable grid.

It’s clear: we need to adapt our energy system to the new climate reality or face serious consequences.

Watching the U.S. Unravel

From Canada with Love and Worry: Watching the U.S. Unravel

By Tina Winterlik aka Zipolita

I’m writing this today with a heavy heart. As I watch what’s happening in the United States—from up here in Canada—it feels like I’m witnessing a country I once admired unravel thread by thread. The latest developments around the Republican tax plan are especially painful to see.

On Facebook, I read this chilling update:
“We are entering hour 5 of the Ways and Means markup of the Republican tax plan. We're expecting to stay here through the night to fight GOP cuts to Medicaid to line the pockets of billionaires.”

Cuts to Medicaid. Cuts to food assistance. More tax breaks for billionaires. It’s like a nightmare unfolding in real time.

And while a few Republicans did break ranks to vote against the bill (at least temporarily), we know this isn’t over. Trump’s influence is still looming—louder, stranger, and more dangerous than ever. His comments about wanting to annex Canada might sound like a joke to some, but they send a chilling message.

This isn’t just theatre anymore—it’s authoritarianism in action.

What’s even more alarming is that while people across the U.S. are protesting and pleading for justice, Trump appears increasingly detached from reality. Psychologists, therapists, and even former officials are noting just how unwell he seems—mentally and emotionally. But he’s surrounded by yes-men, loyalists, and family members who feed him only what he wants to hear. It’s a bubble—and a dangerous one.

Meanwhile, the impact on everyday people is severe, and we’re feeling it here in Canada too. Tourism from Canada to the U.S. is way down. Many of us just don’t feel safe crossing the border anymore. And it’s hitting U.S. border towns hard—restaurants, motels, small businesses are suffering. Even Walmart said they’ll have to raise prices due to the instability and tariffs.

But do Trump or his billionaire buddies care? Absolutely not. They are profiting off the chaos. In fact, I wonder if Trump even understands what’s happening. He's being manipulated by the very people he brought into power, driven by greed and legacy, not public service.

To my American friends: I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I worry for my elderly friends there—those who depend on Medicaid and SNAP. No one should have to fight so hard to survive.

To fellow Canadians: we have to be vigilant. We have to stand on guard—not just for ourselves, but for the people across the border who are losing their rights and dignity by the day. This isn’t just their fight—it affects all of us.

Boycotts are not hate—they’re resistance. They're one of the few tools we have left when governments fail to protect their people. It’s time to speak with our voices and our wallets. We have to take a stand.

With love, sadness, and fierce resolve,
Tina Winterlik

Dear Akash Bobba,

 Dear Akash Bobba,

You could be my child, Akash. And if you were, I would be so worried for you right now. Your poor mom—I can’t imagine what she must be going through. Maybe she supports you, maybe she’s proud, but I would be terrified. As a mother, I would be deeply worried about the choices you’re making and the weight of the world on your shoulders.

At just 22, you stand at a crossroads in history. The decisions you’re making right now will affect the future in ways you can’t possibly imagine. You have the power to influence a generation, but with that power comes an immense responsibility—a responsibility that, if misused, could have catastrophic consequences.

You might feel like you’re at the top of the world, surrounded by influential people, caught up in a whirlwind of excitement and ambition. But I urge you to take a step back and really think about where you are. Do you understand the gravity of your actions? The choices you make now could leave a mark on humanity’s future that is far beyond what you or anyone else could fix.

If you continue down this path, your name may be forever tied to the destruction of democratic principles and the erosion of justice, fairness, and equality. People like Elon Musk, Donald Trump, and others have built a system where power is concentrated in the hands of the few, and the consequences are being felt by millions. Do you really want your legacy to be part of that system?

As a mother, I would ask you to think about the long-term impact of your choices. Seven generations from now, what will they say about you? Will they see you as someone who helped avert disaster, or someone who helped speed it up? The choices you make now will affect not just your future but the futures of your children and their children—and the future of humanity itself.

And to the Indo-Canadian and newcomer community, I ask that you also consider writing to Akash, to speak your truth as Canadians who are deeply concerned about the impact these choices could have on the world. Many of us live here in Surrey, BC, where there’s a large Indian population, and we know how deeply connected we are to families both here and abroad. We are all watching what is happening in the US with growing fear. Many of you have family members living in the United States, and I know you share the same worries we have about the state of immigration and how ICE is treating our brothers and sisters.

As Canadians, we understand that the world is interconnected. What happens south of the border affects us all, and we fear for the safety of those in vulnerable positions. How do we protect our loved ones when the actions of powerful individuals seem to threaten everything we hold dear? How do we prevent the machinery of fear and division from spreading further?

We ask you, Akash, to think not only about your legacy but about the impact your choices will have on families, communities, and future generations. Please, take a moment to reflect on what really matters—the values of compassion, justice, and humanity.

Choose wisely, Akash. You have the power to change the course of history.

Sincerely,
Tina Winterlik

Fact Checking #1-Dr. Albert Einstein

Did Einstein say something about rich own all the media

Albert Einstein was critical of capitalism and corporate influence, but he didn’t explicitly say, “the rich own all the media.” However, in his 1949 essay “Why Socialism?” published in Monthly Review, he expressed concerns about media control by wealthy elites:

> “Private capital tends to become concentrated in few hands... The result is an oligarchy of private capital, the enormous power of which cannot be effectively checked even by a democratically organized political society.”

He also noted how this power extends to the press and public opinion:

> “Under existing conditions, private capitalists inevitably control, directly or indirectly, the main sources of information (press, radio, education). It is thus extremely difficult, and indeed in most cases quite impossible, for the individual citizen to come to objective conclusions and to make intelligent use of his political rights.”

This closely aligns with the idea that the rich control the media, even if he didn’t phrase it exactly that way.

Sure! Albert Einstein (1879–1955) was a German-born physicist best known for developing the theory of relativity, which revolutionized our understanding of space, time, and gravity. His most famous equation, E = mc², describes how energy and mass are interchangeable.

Early Life & Education

  • Born in Ulm, Germany, Einstein struggled in traditional schooling but was fascinated by math and physics.
  • He studied at the Swiss Federal Polytechnic in Zurich, earning a physics degree in 1900.

Scientific Achievements

  1. 1905: "Miracle Year" (Annus Mirabilis)

    • Published four groundbreaking papers, including the special theory of relativity.
    • Explained the photoelectric effect, proving that light behaves like particles (quanta/photons)—which later led to quantum mechanics.
    • This work won him the Nobel Prize in Physics (1921).
  2. 1915: General Theory of Relativity

    • Expanded relativity to include gravity, showing that massive objects (like stars) curve space-time, affecting the motion of planets and light.
    • Confirmed in 1919 when astronomers observed light bending around the Sun during an eclipse.
  3. 1920s-1930s: Quantum Physics Debate

    • Einstein helped develop quantum theory but disagreed with its randomness. He famously said:

“God does not play dice with the universe.”

    • He debated Niels Bohr about whether the universe is deterministic or probabilistic.
  4. 1939: Letter to FDR

    • Warned that Nazi Germany might develop an atomic bomb, which led to the Manhattan Project.
    • He did not work on the bomb and later became a pacifist and activist against nuclear weapons.

Later Life & Legacy

  • Moved to the U.S. in 1933, escaping Nazi Germany, and worked at Princeton University.
  • Advocated for social justice, socialism, civil rights, and world peace.
  • Died in 1955, but his ideas still shape modern physics, from GPS systems (which rely on relativity) to black hole research.

Anything specific you’d like to dive deeper into?

What happened in Germany?

Einstein’s life in Germany was shaped by major historical events, especially the rise of Nazi rule in the 1930s. Here’s a timeline of what happened:

Early 1900s: Einstein in Germany

Einstein was born in 1879 in Ulm, Germany, and later moved to Munich.

He became a German citizen, but due to dissatisfaction with military policies, he renounced German citizenship in 1896 and moved to Switzerland.

In 1914, he returned to Germany and became a professor in Berlin.

During World War I (1914-1918), Einstein opposed German militarism and was one of the few scientists who spoke against the war.

1920s: Einstein’s Fame & Growing Antisemitism

By the 1920s, Einstein was internationally famous for his theory of relativity.

However, Germany was struggling after losing World War I—facing economic collapse, high unemployment, and resentment over the Treaty of Versailles.

Right-wing groups, including the Nazi Party, blamed Jews for Germany’s problems, and Einstein, being Jewish, became a target.

Nationalists and some scientists (who disliked his radical physics) called his work “Jewish physics” and spread propaganda against him.

1933: Einstein Flees Nazi Germany

In January 1933, Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party took power. They immediately began:

Purging Jews from universities and government jobs.

Promoting “Aryan science” and banning Jewish scientists.

Burning books, including works by Einstein.

Einstein was in the U.S. when Hitler became Chancellor and never returned to Germany.

Nazis labeled him an enemy of the state, seized his property, and put a bounty on his head.

Aftermath: WWII & Einstein’s Role

Einstein settled in the U.S. and became an American citizen in 1940.

Fearing that Nazi Germany might develop nuclear weapons, he co-signed a letter to President Roosevelt in 1939, urging the U.S. to research atomic energy (which led to the Manhattan Project).

After the war, he regretted this and became a strong advocate for nuclear disarmament.

Would you like more details on any of these events?

Yes we need to research this deeply, explain Ayran science

What Was "Aryan Science"?

"Aryan Science" was a racist ideology promoted by Nazi Germany to discredit scientific work by Jewish and other "non-Aryan" scientists. It was part of Hitler’s broader effort to reshape German society around Nazi racial theories, claiming that "pure Aryan" Germans were intellectually superior and that Jewish scientists corrupted science.

This led to the purging of Jewish scientists, the rejection of certain fields of research (like relativity and quantum mechanics), and the promotion of "racially pure" German science that aligned with Nazi beliefs.

Origins & Goals of Aryan Science

1. Racial Ideology in Science

Nazis believed that science was not universal but racially influenced.

They claimed Jews, Slavs, and other "inferior" races produced "degenerate" science, while Germans had a "natural genius" for physics, engineering, and medicine.

2. Rejection of Einstein & Modern Physics

Einstein’s Theory of Relativity (E = mc²) was labeled "Jewish physics" because Einstein was Jewish.

Nazis rejected quantum mechanics, calling it "un-German" and preferring classical Newtonian physics.

Philipp Lenard and Johannes Stark, two German physicists who supported the Nazis, led the attack on relativity, calling for "Aryan physics" based only on German contributions.

3. Purging Jewish Scientists (1933 Onward)

Jewish professors were fired from universities under the Law for the Restoration of the Professional Civil Service (April 1933).

Scientists like Einstein, Max Born, and Erwin Schrödinger fled or were expelled.

Theoretical physics collapsed in Germany as many top researchers left.

Consequences of Nazi Aryan Science

1. Germany Weakened Its Own Science

Before the Nazis, Germany was the world leader in physics and chemistry.

By forcing out Jewish scientists, Germany lost some of its best minds, including those who later helped the U.S. build the atomic bomb (Manhattan Project).

2. Nazi "Racial Science" & Medical Experiments

Nazis promoted eugenics, aiming to "purify" German genetics.

Doctors performed horrific experiments on prisoners (e.g., Josef Mengele at Auschwitz).

Sterilization and euthanasia programs targeted disabled people and other "undesirables."

3. Failure of Nazi Physics in WWII

The Nazis attempted to develop a nuclear bomb but failed because they dismissed key Jewish scientists.

The U.S. (with exiled Jewish scientists) succeeded, creating the atomic bomb before Germans.

Key Figures in "Aryan Science" vs. Those Opposing It

Several key figures and groups opposed "Aryan science," which was a pseudoscientific concept promoted by Nazi ideology to justify racial hierarchy and discrimination. Opposition came from scientists, intellectuals, and organizations who rejected racial science and defended objective, evidence-based research. Some of the most notable opponents included:

1. Albert Einstein (1879–1955)

A major target of Nazi anti-Semitic propaganda, Einstein’s theories of relativity were labeled "Jewish physics" and dismissed by Nazi ideologues.

Einstein left Germany in 1933 and continued to advocate for scientific truth, opposing the Nazis’ racial pseudoscience.

2. Max Planck (1858–1947)

Although he initially tried to work within the Nazi system, he opposed the persecution of Jewish scientists and publicly defended colleagues like Fritz Haber.

He resisted Nazi interference in academic institutions but was ultimately powerless to stop the regime’s actions.

3. Werner Heisenberg (1901–1976)

The physicist behind quantum mechanics, Heisenberg was attacked for defending Einstein’s theories.

Despite working in Nazi Germany, he argued against the politicization of science and resisted efforts to erase "Jewish influences" from physics.

4. Niels Bohr (1885–1962)

A Danish physicist of Jewish heritage, Bohr opposed Nazi racial policies and worked to help Jewish scientists escape occupied Europe.

He later contributed to the Manhattan Project, helping the Allies counter Nazi scientific advancements.

5. The Soviet Union and Marxist Scientists

The Soviet Union rejected Nazi racial science, seeing it as a fascist distortion of biology and genetics.

Soviet scientists like Nikolai Vavilov opposed eugenics and racial theories, advocating for genetic diversity in agriculture and human populations.

6. The British and American Scientific Communities

Scientists like Julian Huxley and Franz Boas were vocal opponents of racial pseudoscience, promoting cultural and genetic diversity.

Boas, a Jewish anthropologist, dismantled racist theories by proving that race was a social construct rather than a determinant of intelligence or morality.

7. Jewish Scientists and Intellectuals

Many Jewish scientists, including refugee scholars like Erwin Schrödinger and Hans Bethe, opposed Nazi racial policies and contributed to Allied scientific efforts.

Organizations like the Emergency Committee in Aid of Displaced Foreign Scholars helped Jewish scientists escape Nazi persecution.

Stranger Than Truth: When Fiction Becomes the New Reality in Canada

Stranger Than Truth: When Fiction Becomes the New Reality in Canada

In Canada, a country often perceived as a beacon of fairness, equality, and transparency, there have been numerous instances where the line between truth and fiction has been manipulated for political, corporate, and personal gain.

These events may not have the same overt authoritarian edge as those seen in more oppressive regimes, but they reveal a troubling pattern of bending or obscuring the truth to suit powerful interests.

As we look back on some of the most glaring examples, one can’t help but wonder: how much of what we believe to be the truth is simply fiction dressed up as fact?

1. The Arrival App: A Digital Failure and Public Deception

The Canadian government introduced the Arrival app during the COVID-19 pandemic to help manage travel restrictions and health protocols for incoming international travelers.

However, the app quickly became an infamous example of government mismanagement. Travelers were faced with constant glitches, delays, and issues accessing crucial health data. Despite widespread complaints and confusion, the government continued to praise the app as a success.

In reality, the app failed to live up to expectations. But the government’s continued insistence on its success painted a false picture of a smooth, efficient response to the pandemic.

By downplaying the app’s flaws, the government hoped to maintain public confidence, but this led many to feel deceived, especially when they struggled with a platform that didn’t work as intended.

2. CERB Clawback: Financial Betrayal During a Crisis

The Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) was introduced to provide financial relief to workers impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, many Canadians found themselves facing an unexpected and financially devastating clawback of the benefit. While the government initially promised that CERB would be available to those who needed it, the rules governing who qualified for the program were vague, and many individuals were hit with repayment demands months later.

The CERB clawback exposed a glaring communication failure. Thousands of Canadians, who had been financially struggling, were now forced to repay the money they had received. The government’s messaging about repayment and eligibility was often confusing and inconsistent, leaving many to feel betrayed by a program that was supposed to help them through the hardest months of their lives. By downplaying these issues or failing to address them adequately, the government helped perpetuate a false narrative of fairness and transparency.

3. COVID-19 Testing and Lab Scandals: Failing the Public’s Trust

As COVID-19 testing became a critical part of Canada’s public health response, there were several concerning reports about testing labs engaging in questionable practices. Some private labs were accused of submitting false or incomplete results, while others were suspected of manipulating testing numbers for financial or political gain. These lapses in transparency raised serious questions about the integrity of the data being used to make public health decisions.

The response from public health authorities was often lackluster, with many concerns being downplayed or ignored. As the pandemic wore on, public trust in the testing system began to erode. The government's refusal to fully acknowledge these issues and take swift corrective action contributed to a growing sense of unease among Canadians who felt their safety and well-being were being compromised. The suppression of these truths, or at least the delay in addressing them, created a climate of distrust and confusion.

4. The Oil Sands Debate: A Manufactured Economic Narrative

For years, the Canadian government and the oil industry have painted the oil sands as a crucial part of Canada’s economic future. The narrative has focused heavily on job creation and economic benefits, while downplaying or ignoring the environmental damage caused by the extraction process. Even as Indigenous communities and environmental groups raised alarms about the destruction of ecosystems and the acceleration of climate change, the government and industry continued to push the message that the oil sands were vital to Canada's prosperity.

This manufactured narrative ignores the growing body of evidence that suggests the true cost of the oil sands may outweigh any economic benefits. The manipulation of facts and the silencing of opposition in favor of promoting oil extraction for profit created a version of the truth that suited the political and corporate elite, while disregarding the environmental and social consequences.

5. The SNC-Lavalin Scandal: Political Interference and Public Deception

The SNC-Lavalin affair revealed the lengths to which the Canadian government would go to protect powerful corporate interests. In 2019, it was revealed that senior members of the Liberal government had pressured then-Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould to intervene in a criminal prosecution against the engineering firm SNC-Lavalin, which was facing charges related to bribery and corruption.

The government initially denied any wrongdoing, but as the story unfolded, it became clear that political interference was at play. The narrative around the scandal shifted several times as new revelations came to light, leaving the public to question the integrity of the government’s actions. The SNC-Lavalin scandal exposed how political elites could manipulate the truth to shield corporations from accountability, putting corporate interests above the public good.

6. Indigenous Rights and the Long Struggle for Truth

Canada has long struggled with the truth surrounding its treatment of Indigenous peoples. While many Canadians take pride in the country’s multiculturalism and human rights record, the reality for Indigenous communities has often been one of systemic discrimination, violence, and erasure. The Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) uncovered the atrocities of residential schools, but for many years, the full extent of these injustices was downplayed or ignored by both the public and the government.

Even today, narratives around Indigenous rights and land sovereignty are often manipulated to suit the interests of the state and corporations. The government and industries continue to suppress the truth of Indigenous land struggles and environmental degradation in the name of economic growth. The persistent denial and distortion of these truths serve to maintain the status quo and prevent meaningful reconciliation.

7. The Fish Farms Controversy: A Breach of Consent

In British Columbia, the debate over fish farms has long been a contentious issue, especially in relation to the environmental harm they cause. These industrial fish farms—typically raising Atlantic salmon in open-net pens in coastal waters—have been shown to pollute the environment, spread diseases, and harm wild fish populations. However, what adds another layer of controversy is the fact that many Indigenous communities and local residents claim they were never consulted or informed about the placement of these farms.

In several instances, it has been revealed that fish farm companies, with the backing of provincial and federal governments, set up operations in coastal waters without the consent of local Indigenous groups or without giving communities a say in the decision. This lack of consultation and respect for Indigenous land rights has led to widespread protests and legal battles. Despite the environmental damage and community pushback, the government continued to support the fish farming industry, citing economic benefits over environmental and social concerns.

The government's failure to properly consult with Indigenous peoples and local communities, coupled with the push to maintain these controversial fish farms, shows how truth can be manipulated and ignored when it comes to corporate interests and political convenience. The true impact of these operations on the environment and local communities has been downplayed, and the people who were most affected have often been left out of the conversation altogether.

The Power of Truth in Canada

The instances above demonstrate a disturbing trend in Canada: the manipulation of truth to protect political, corporate, or personal interests. While Canada may not have the same authoritarian tendencies as other countries, these examples show how narratives can be twisted to maintain power, distract from failures, and deceive the public.

In an age where information is readily available at our fingertips, the onus is on us to be vigilant and demand transparency from those in power. The truth is too important to be manipulated for profit or political gain. It is essential that we continue to push for accountability and insist on a truthful narrative, no matter how inconvenient or uncomfortable it may be.

"Even if absentee ballots and recounts were to unfortunately give Clark a bare majority, there is no way the BC Liberals can continue for long.

Why? Because it only takes one BC Liberal MLA crossing the floor to the NDP or Greens or to sit as an independent or quitting or, god forbid, passing away, and the B.C. legislature is no longer controlled by Christy Clark.

Or it could be one or two BC Liberal MLAs calling in sick or missing a confidence vote for the government to be defeated. That means either NDP leader John Horgan would be asked to form a new government, with Green Party support, or a new election be called."

Wow, takes me back. I remember nearly 15 years ago...well actually let's say 16 years ago...when I was pregnant and taking the prenatal course over on Commercial drive...come to think of it...and the Registered Nurse teaching the course asked me if I was prepared for daycare and what my plans were for working and taking care of the baby. I was clueless.

I had NO IDEA that daycares were $900 a month for babies, $675 for 3 and older ($15 a hour private) and there were lots of rules- on both sides and well it was a huge awakening into how f___d the world is when you have to pay nearly as much as you make to PAY someone to take care of your child. Sort of takes the fun out of motherhood when your are super stressed trying to survive...and can't raise your own child :( (Hello behavioral problems...).

I shall not go on...but just one more point..Paul Martin ? he was going to bring in the $10 day care plan back when Angel was about 3.5...but he lost the Federal election. He was basically bringing in Quebec's daycare plan. I heard that was formed when women went to man in charge of that ministry at the time and locked the door and kept him there until he agreed. I like that! Sending love and light, let's do what's right. Let's take care of moms and kids!! Free daycare for all!!

Let them run in the forest...green schools, gardens, solar...the future..we got to go for it. If Vancouver doesn't become the greenest, socially just city ever...that will suck because we know what is wrong, we have the technology and knowledge..we just all need to work together to do it. Do we have the wisdom?

I don't know why this $6million man clip popped into my head...I guess I am nostalgic..after sharing the clips for Norma Rae yesterday.

We were fed all this hope and that technology could make things better. But where is wisdom and ethics. We have the technology...we can rebuild the systems...Go Green. A Socially Just world.

But I promise we'll take the world to its feet
And move mountains
We'll take it to its feet
And move mountains

And I'll rise up
I'll rise like the day
I'll rise up
I'll rise unafraid
I'll rise up
And I'll do it a thousand times again
For you
For you
For you
For you

All we need, all we need is hope
And for that we have each other
And for that we have each other
We will rise
We will rise
We'll rise, oh oh
We'll rise

I'll rise up
Rise like the day
I'll rise up
In spite of the ache I will rise a thousands times again
And we'll rise up
Rise like the waves
We'll rise up
In spite of the ache
We'll rise up
And we'll do it a thousands times again
For you oh oh oh oh oh
For you oh oh oh oh oh
For you oh oh oh oh oh
For you

Forgiveness, Signs and Double Rainbows.

I want to share this beautiful moment with you.
Please read what Lyle June wrote on her post. Such beautiful words. Such wise profound words about forgiveness. Thank you for the love, understanding, wisdom and guidance shown here.

I posted this note on there...

Sending love and light and THANK YOU for sharing this POWERFUL message. I was struggling with something yesterday that was causing me great grief. But in the evening I let it all go and forgave and gave my blessing to that what was being asked of me. This morning I was rewarded with a powerful sign. First one rainbow and then a double rainbow appeared. I felt so grateful and blessed and feel so strongly that my ancestors heard my prayers and helped guide me. It was a strong sign for me.

Here are the beautiful rainbows and signs that blessed my day for me.

Women Power! Check this out!!

You know I heard once that that is how they got daycare in Quebec. A bunch of women held the premier (I don't remember) in his office until he gave in. Women ARE powerful!!

Thanks to all the Women Warriors out there.

Empathy and Fort McMurray

I must say I was shocked that people would even mention "climate change" during the horrifying exodus of the city of Fort McMurray. (And I am always on about that...)

For 4 days now... 4 or more...I have been sharing tweets and info on the #FortMacFire

It started when I saw this tweet,  then saw her other tweets and was trying to figure out if it was real.

All the other news stations reports were from earlier in the day and I was suddenly not sure if I should retweet it and at the same time feeling the shock, terror and grief of  of Kimberlee leaving.

I started following all the tweets, you can see here and the horror of the day was revealing itself quickly as people shared photos and tweets that the news was not even aware of yet.
http://tinawinterlik.blogspot.ca/2016/05/fort-mcmurray-evacuating-ymm-ymmfire.html

After seeing these and searching other sites the realization of what was taking place was overwhelming. While I had the option, to get up, step away from the computer, eat something, use the bathroom, make some tea....horrors were happening.

It was too much. At points in the evening I broke into tears as I watched tweet after tweet telling us and showing the insanity and terror of the situation.

Perhaps if you just saw the photos after, you could be sort of numbed by the inferno that raged in the city and against the desperate people racing to escape...

But if you say anything at this time against these people and their apocalyptic reality, then I am sorry to inform you, but it's about time that someone obviously did, but you lack empathy. You need to watch the videos below.

Let me just say that while I am no expert on Karma, I don't believe it works that way.
http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2016/05/05/fort-mcmurray-fire_n_9851942.html

Two, people who are enlightened would never speak such things. Three and this is the weird thing that I wanted to mention.... did we make it happen.

Did the collective minds of the world, send such negativity to the place ....did it create the turbulence of nature...and if we did then it's time to meditate and shut that fire down with lots and lots of rain.

I'm not saying we wished harm to these beautiful souls but just that a collective minds we wished that Tarsands to not be there... we had all seen so much negativity about it, ...and that's just me, the Aquarius...

And the last point I wanted make, if you have ever been through a fire, then you will have huge empathy for these poor souls who have lost everything and will be traumatized for years. Seriously, they are going to need a lot of help.

Reading these triggered old memories of the fire in Zipolite, Mexico, running down the street, no shoes, terrified that I was almost trapped in a court yard because the fire was in the palapa across the street, and hot embers were about to rain down (it would burn straight back...burn the whole town...or so I thought in the chaos of it all. )

I was confused standing at the end of the street, thinking I need to go back for my stuff but it was all about to go...and the other tourists standing there with me, with nothing on their backs. Later meeting the locals who lost all as the cars gas tanks and propane tanks would explode and the wind would whip the flames higher and more voracious. Wind- it's the bad guy in the fire.

You don't forget that kind of thing and every little fire experience will trigger you, some more than others. Every time you smell smoke, you will be at attention, and I didn't have insurance, so I never had anything replaced. I lost a lot of material things, that's the important thing right, I wasn't burned, I didn't die. Still the sense of loss, the grief will haunt you for a very long time. I have great empathy for all the children, their mommies and daddies, the grandparents, the animals, everyone and everything.

So anyone to even consider anything other than love, compassion and understanding at this fragile and mind-numbing time, really needs to study up and practice empathy.

Just to note, not all can...learn it, some sociopaths lack the capacity.

Green Ideas & Solutions

Great ideas here. We need to eat more kelp and we need to stop polluting out environment with fossil fuels.

Farming the Sea: why eating kelp is good for you and good for the environment from Patrick Mustain on Vimeo.

http://ecowatch.com/2016/04/10/ocean-farmers/2/
"Our farms function as storm-surge protectors, breaking up wave action to reduce the impact of hurricanes and rising tides. And they serve as artificial reefs, attracting more than 150 species of aquatic life. Sea horses, striped bass and grey seals come to eat, hide and thrive on our farms. My farm used to be a barren patch of ocean, now it’s a flourishing ecosystem. As fishermen, we’re no longer pillagers, hunting the last fish. We are a new generation of climate farmers who have joined the fight to restore our planet. We’re trying to break down the seawalls that separate our land-based and ocean-based food systems. Even the best land-based farms pollute, sending nitrogen into our waterways, so we use our kelp to capture that nitrogen, turn it into liquid fertilizers and send it back to organic farmers to grow their wonderful vegetables. When the nitrogen then runs back into Long Island Sound, we capture it again.

The idea is to build a bridge between land and sea in order to close the loop between our food systems. Too often our thinking stops at the water’s edge. A bridge is needed."

Paul McCartney

Paul I have been listening to your music my whole life. You see my older sister (by 12 years) and she loved THE BEATLES!

She saw you play here in Vancouver ....many years ago when you first came....let's see I think this was it...

Beatles Interview Vancouver
http://www.beatlesinterviews.org/db1964.0822.beatles.html

On August 22, 1964, the Beatles arrived in Vancouver to perform their first-ever Canadian concert at Empire Stadium.  They almost didn’t make it. According to a press conference given upon their arrival, the Fab Four’s pilot nearly cost them the gig thanks to some paperwork. Paul McCartney explained “there was one little thing” missing on the pilot’s documents, and John Lennon added: “We got [to Vancouver] and… had to go back.”

http://www.vancitybuzz.com/2014/08/beatles-in-vancouver-august-22-1964/

Anyways, Paul, I was 2 when you came to Vancouver and I don't remember much but I know when I was a little older, my sister and her friend, (I think his name may have been Paul,) took me and my little sister and brother to see the movie HELP! and it was at a Drive In Theatre and we were all piled into a little VW bug!! That was out in Surrey, probably the Surrey Drive In??

HOW COOL IS A MEMORY LIKE THAT!!

And it was probably this movie and Ringo with that big ring stuck on his finger- that I, as a little 5 year old felt sorry for him, and got a big crush on him and he was always my favourite but I did like you all and I loved your music.

I would have watched you on the Ed Sullivan show and probably saw this there.

"I want to hold your hand" was always one of my favourite songs but it's very hard to chose from so MANY great songs.  These songs really shaped my life in so many ways.

This song, this song has power, power to calm upset people, power to change energy, it's just beautiful, I'ts sad you can only find this little clip online because it should be shared far and wide. I love this song!!

Now this song, this song...whenever I am unhappy or felt the injustices of the world I turn to this song. Remember I grew up in the 70's so as a little girl living in a rural area in BC with only one TV station- the CBC-  I watched the Vietnam war on TV,  and I saw the protests, hippies / draft dodgers came to work at my parents business and well I was exposed to lots of music but I always loved the Beatles.

And whenever life was dumping all over me over the years and I needed something to come through for me, I would play this and smile and feel that in my heart "everything would be okay!!"

When I was about 14, I remember hearing on the radio, that you were coming (I thought it was ) to Vancouver- (I think now it was Seattle )

You were Paul McCartney and Wings then and it was the Band on the Run Tour.   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_McCartney_and_Wings

I remember racing down the hallway in our home and banging on my brothers door to tell him you were coming...but he wasn't as excited. And I found that sad because I was hoping to go....

Anyways I as I got older I went to many concerts, from about age 15 to 18,  I saw some great ones. I used to use all my allowance to buy the tix and bus tix from Abbotsford to Vancouver ..there was never much left for a t-shirt or program....but I saw Fleetwood Mac, Alice Cooper, Supertramp, Bob Seger....lots of great shows, and I have great stories about each.

I remember in the old days...ticket prices were normal. Like for example...when ticket prices went from $11.00 a concert to $18,  I said they were too high and I wouldn't go anymore. And I didn't. I couldn't afford it...and maybe I was starting to grow up and all those super big crowds and super loud music was getting a little old and we could buy tapes!! Ha! Ha! I had lots of cassettes...still do in a box in storage.

Back then going to a concert was dangerous. Seriously it was festival seating. I remember one time before Fleetwood Mac or maybe it was Alice Cooper,  we were all crammed at the doors of the Pacific Coliseum waiting to get in. I was there with a girlfriend and we were freaking out because there was a girl behind us who had drank to much and kept mentioning she might puke.

But when you are in a crowd that tight, you can't move.

Finally ...because I knew the routine by now...there was a tinkle of glass- someone broke it..and then some guy on the inside ran along all the doors, banging them as they opened and people POURED through.

My friend makes it through but as I go, two guys are trying at the same time. I am little and I am literally being SQUISHED!! and it was scary...what was scarier is this big bouncer guy starts punching at these guy's arms/shoulders to make them go back while he's pulling me through!!

Finally I made it! and then they searched us, like everyone and off we went to try and find a seat...because seats were NOT assigned. That was festival seating.  Glad they stopped that and you can all be blessed but still scalpers are an issue, they always have been and it's sad to see all the people getting ripped off.

Anyways, I haven't been to a concert in a very very long time. I just don't have the money and well there's no one I really want to see that badly...

BUT my friend, who is the same age as my older sister mentioned he would REALLY LIKE TO GO! and you know what he's retiring...he was supposed to retire last year but you know this crazy world, people have to keep working....there's no gold watch...

So I was teasing I need to throw him a retirement party. I think it would be fabulous to take him to your concert Paul.

Any that's why I thought I would write this DEAR PAUL letter and see if maybe you can swing two (or maybe 3 -one for my kid) tickets for us here when you come to Vancouver in April.

Getting older in this world is a strange thing...people are into such different things and money rules, I guess it always has, but things are so warped out. I saw how they wouldn't let you in that club.

HOW RUDE!! http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/feb/17/paul-mccartney-club-beatle-grammys

Well Paul, what ever happens, you are great! You music is great! I wish you have a wonderful concert and THANK YOU for all your BEAUTIFUL music!!

My life would have been so much different without it! I think that is one of the most wonderful things about music, is the power it has, and it's subtly, people don't know it's even affecting them many times.

YOU ROCK PAUL! You and Ringo, what incredible lives you have had. And poor George & John, they were so amazing and it must have been very hard when they passed. And losing Linda, you have suffered some terrible grief I am sure.

Grief is a terrible thing to deal with, I know too well, but music helps. It's helped me a lot. I have lost both my parents and many loved ones over the years and this song has helped me so much!!

Thank YOU!! Thank you Paul! Enjoy Vancouver!! If you drive through Kitsilano, come by and pick me up and I'll give you a tour. Ha! Ha!! Cheers, Tina

On a little side note,  I made this little animation proto-type a few years back...it's based on a vision I had and if you watch it at the end I mention missing the music. Somehow I feel this old grandma is me- 108 years and we've changed the world...but it's music like yours I'll be missing!!
