Open Letter to Greedy Landlords and Property Managers

Open Letter to Greedy Landlords and Property Managers

How do you sleep at night?

Seriously — do you ever stop to think about the people whose lives you’re crushing under your boots of greed? Do you have any idea what it feels like to work your whole life, pay your taxes, raise kids, and still not be able to afford a roof over your head in the city you call home?

What if it were your child?
Imagine them working full-time, commuting 1.5 hours each way, paying over $1,000 a month just to share a room — not an apartment, not a suite, a room. How does that sit with you? Do you still think it’s just “market value”? Or is it finally hitting you — this is exploitation.

What if it were your parents — seniors who gave decades of labour, only to be forced into homelessness, living in vehicles, shelters, or in fear every day because you raised the rent again?

Do you think you’re untouchable?
That your shiny car, designer suit, and fancy friends will protect you forever?

Well, here's a warning: people are watching.
We’re documenting.
We’re organizing.
And we’re not staying silent anymore.

Your collusion, rent-gouging, and illegal price-fixing?
It’s criminal. And it's being reported.

You might have slipped through the cracks before, but those days are ending. The Competition Bureau is on alert. Communities are talking. And we’re fighting back.

We will form our own networks.
We will build social media coalitions.
We will name names.
We will shine light on every dark corner of this rigged system.

And yes, we’re calling on ethical hackers too — the ones who believe in justice, transparency, and human dignity — because you built this empire off of suffering.

Vancouver was never meant to be like this.
We remember the city where neighbors helped each other, where artists, seniors, youth, and workers could afford to live.

You turned it into a playground for the ultra-rich, and a war zone for everyone else.

If your dreams are haunted by the man digging through trash for cans just to pay rent — good. They should be. That’s your doing. That’s your legacy.

Change now. Lower your rents. Stop the greed. Return to humanity.
Because if you don’t, justice is coming — and it won’t be quiet.

Sincerely,
The People You’ve Pushed Too Far

Friends, Fellow Warriors: Let’s Talk About What’s Going On

Friends, Fellow Warriors: Let’s Talk About What’s Going On

We’ve been through battles before—fighting for what’s right, protecting what we hold dear. And now, there’s something stirring in the air. You’ve probably seen it: Elon Musk, one of the most powerful voices in tech, is singing praises for Pierre Poilievre, a leader whose playbook feels uncomfortably close to what we’ve seen south of the border. It’s raising red flags. Why? Because it feels like a distraction. It feels like a setup. But we’re not going to lay down, are we?

Here’s why this might be happening—and what we can do to protect the democracy we’ve fought so hard to build.

---

Why Musk and Poilievre?

1. Big Money Talks: Musk’s companies thrive on deregulation and tax breaks, things Poilievre could easily roll out.

2. Populist Power Grab: Musk likes leaders who "shake things up," even if it means undermining institutions that protect people like us.

3. Distracting Us from Real Problems: Focusing on Poilievre takes our eyes off inflation, housing, and climate struggles that need urgent attention.

4. Clicks and Chaos: Musk owns X (formerly Twitter). Stirring the pot with polarizing figures drives traffic, and traffic makes him money.

5. Poking the Bear: Canada’s strong, steady democracy might be a target for those who want to see it destabilized.

6. Climate Rollbacks: Poilievre’s policies might mean weaker climate action, something that benefits big oil and certain elites.

7. Mistrust Grows: Highlighting divisive voices erodes our trust in the very systems that keep us safe and fair.

8. Geopolitical Strings: Powerful people play powerful games. Canada’s role in global politics is bigger than we think.

9. Focus Shift: While we debate politics, we might miss the global crises Musk and his allies are positioning themselves around.

10. Musk’s Personal Agenda: Let’s face it, the man likes the spotlight and amplifying voices that echo his own libertarian ideals.

---

What We Can Do Together

We’re tired, but we’re not beaten. Here’s how we stand tall:

1. Stay Sharp: Read widely. Don’t trust one source. Dig for the truth.

2. Question Everything: Don’t take any claims—especially big ones—at face value. Check, double-check, and keep asking why.

3. Talk It Out: Bring neighbors, friends, and family into the conversation. Listening and sharing rebuilds trust.

4. Support Real News: Independent journalism matters. Subscribe, share, and amplify those doing the hard work.

5. Teach the Tools: Let’s arm ourselves and others with the knowledge to spot misinformation and manipulation online.

6. Call for Transparency: Demand social media platforms play fair. No more shadowy algorithms or unchecked propaganda.

7. Protect Our Elections: Push for limits on corporate and foreign money in Canadian politics.

8. Show Up Locally: Attend those community meetings. Write to your MP. Vote like it’s life or death—because it is.

9. Back Grassroots Efforts: Join or support organizations fighting for justice, fairness, and accountability.

10. Stay Watchful: Keep an eye on where the money and influence are coming from. Don’t let foreign powers or tech moguls shape our future.

---

We know you’re weary. We know it feels like the odds are stacked. But every time we’ve faced a storm, we’ve risen stronger. This is no different.

So, let’s hold the line. For our democracy.

For our communities. For the future we believe in. Together, we can turn this tide.

Jane Fonda- Fort McMurray- LNG & Allies

Jane Fonda in Fort McMurray

"During a portion of the interview, Fonda stood with her hand on the shoulder of Cleo Desjarlais Reece, a member of the Fort McMurray First Nation.

The two had lunch together, and Desjarlais Reece said they talked about the greed of corporations that place profits above the health of people and the environment.

Reece, also a member of anti-oilsands group Keepers of the Athabasca, defended Fonda's visit. She said she disagreed with those who say celebrity tours are merely circuses that distract from important issues."

"We do not control the media, obviously," she said. "Anytime [we get] a chance to give our side of the story and tell our truth, I think that is very important for us.
The voices of Indigenous groups, Desjarlais Reece said, are often heard only when celebrities show up.

In Solidarity with Sacred Stone Camp - North Dakota

Just Updated this with a bunch of tweets
"People arrested, construction moving ahead as police protect the oil company! "  Shame!! Shame!!

Hau we are the Inyan wakankagapi otip-Sacred Stone Camp from the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe.   We have partnership with the Oectc  Sakowin- Seven Council Fires, Indians and Cowboys and anyone who was to stand with us against the Dakota Access Pipeline.

This pipeline will cross the Missouri River and Cannon Ball River which is the life line to many tribes and non native, when this pipeline leaks it will destroy the water and land.  Water is life ! So this pipeline is along the Missouri River and the KL pipeline was along the Ogall aquifer both are important to save.

We are asking for financial support for water-propane - food and blankets  for the camp.  This is a prayer camp movement to save our sacred land and water and has been entirely supported by the people and the campers. We are in great appreciation for all you contributions....Wopila lila tanka-- we are deeply grateful for you contributions thank you!

Archaeological evidence indicates that the Dakota (Sioux) occupied what is now western Ontario and eastern Manitoba prior to 1200 AD, and western Manitoba and eastern Saskatchewan prior to 900 AD. These populations later withdrew to the drainage basins of the Red, Mississippi and Rainy rivers, where they were located when first contacted by Pierre Radisson in 1659.  Read more here

North Dakota’s Oil Boom Brings Damage Along With Prosperity
"The downside is waste — lots of it. Companies produce millions of gallons of salty, chemical-infused wastewater, known as brine, as part of drilling and fracking each well. Drillers are supposed to inject this material thousands of feet underground into disposal wells, but some of it isn't making it that far.

According to data obtained by ProPublica, oil companies in North Dakota reported more than 1,000 accidental releases of oil, drilling wastewater or other fluids in 2011, about as many as in the previous two years combined. Many more illicit releases went unreported, state regulators acknowledge, when companies dumped truckloads of toxic fluid along the road or drained waste pits illegally."

The DAPL is a proposed crude pipeline which crosses treaty territories, threatening the Missouri River, impacting immediately Cannonball, ND of the SRST

"An oil leak in North Dakota is seeping from a hillside and is thousands of gallons larger than initially reported last month, state officials say. About 504 barrels of oil or more than 20,000 gallons of the highly polluting substance have been recovered since the line leak occurred July 19, the North Dakota Department of Health said in a press release Friday. https://thinkprogress.org/north-dakota-hillside-seeps-oil-bd42be2eeeda#.yt05swj9j
"

In North Dakota, people vs. oil pipeline protest strengthens

The irony of this...corporations polluting the water supply for millions and they are suing the protesters.

"Developers of a $3.8 billion, four-state oil pipeline are asking a federal judge to order protesters in North Dakota to stop interfering with the project."

North Dakota Law Enforcement Just Moved Into A Native American Pipeline Protest
"An oil pipeline poised to run through four Midwestern states may have all the permits it needs for construction, but Native Americans and Iowa landowners facing eminent domain continue to fight the Bakken pipeline with protests and court injunctions.

On Thursday, Sioux tribe members continued for a second day to block workers at a Bakken pipeline construction site near where the Cannonball and Missouri rivers meet, prompting law enforcement to move in. This is an escalation from months of “spirit camp” protests — camps where tribe members pray as a group for hours at a time."

And there's nothing in the world that I would rather see

Are We Ready??? for the Biggest Climate March in History!!!

COME ON!!!
I can't save the world by myself!! LOL!!
Do YOU FEEL LIKE THAT TOO?
Everyday I'm on here blogging, trying to keep people informed, trying to show them the big picture and it's hard. My butt gets frigging sore and I get so stiff, as I get up from the computer sometimes after being on "way to long" I limp like an bend over old lady....and "Yawnnnn!" and Str....e..t..ch....and say another day..."Saving the World!" and my kid and my friend laugh and tell me to come eat some dinner.

But that's how I feel lately, for quite a while, this last year and well for many years...it's up to me...I have some special job. Maybe that's quite presumptuous of me, thinking that I'm so special, I must inform you, but I think of it as everyone is SO BUSY and when they come home, they might turn on the news and it's so ONE sided so I try to enlighten with many messages and hope you can form informed opinions. And that's my job. Besides painting, caring for my family, myself and creating new little art projects ALL THE TIME!

http://tinawinterlik.blogspot.ca/2015/11/have-you-heard-of-peace-prayer-flag.html

And YES, the #PeacePrayerFlagProject is just that! After the Paris Bombings I saw the REALLY BIG PICTURE, http://tinawinterlik.blogspot.ca/2015/11/we-all-need-to-be-lighthouses-of-peace.html this is huge, we are up against Big Oil but I was somehow so small in my thinking, http://tinawinterlik.blogspot.ca/2015/11/did-you-ever-charlie-wilsons-war-or.html

I was only focusing on #SaveOurCoast and well we were all distracted with getting Harper OUT before he TOTALLY destroyed the Canada we "thought" we knew and loved...

I say thought because with the release of the Truth and Reconciliation records we know that some people in parts of Canada were very very evil indeed and it caused all sorts of pain and suffering.

And why was that, because there was no #SocialJustice, http://tinawinterlik.blogspot.ca/2015/11/article-25-right-to-adequate-standard.html

People had no rights, children taken forcibly by the government, it in itself was a war, a war on children and families. Some survived but many didn't and we will never know.

One thing is that its the Indigenous peoples around the world that are the ones that see the big picture and are warning us because the ones that actually live off the land and in harmony with the earth, they are the ones MOST VULNERABLE and AFFECTED by #ClimateChange.

This OIL thing is huge but we have solutions, we can find the alternatives....we can use the sun, it's the obvious choice. Well the point is don't sit on your butt!! DO SOMETHING!!
Sadly the 4 years this video projected have come and gone...DON'T LET IT BE TO LATE!

If you don't like the gas prices, if your groceries are too high, if you boss pays you minimum wage and you can NOT support your family because rent is so high, if you can never own a home because they cost $1 million, if you farm is dying and you move to the city but there's no work, if your food is full of GMO's, your coast could be destroyed but Oil Spills, your water could be or is polluted by tailings pond from mining or fracking...THEN  UNITE NOW!!! UNITE FOR PEACE! UNITE FOR #ClimateJustice and #SocialJustice. DEMAND THIS! DEMAND DEMOCRACY!

And this is your chance to let the WORLD LEADERS that we mean BUSINESS!! Fossil Fuels are dead. People must DIVEST from Fossil Fuels or we will all be dead. IT'S NOT ROCKET SCIENCE!!

SO GET READY TO MARCH!! MAKE BANNERS, PUPPPETS, PEACE PRAYER FLAGS, do what you can to make this a fun, exciting expression of POSITIVE LOVE AND ENERGY that shows the #COP21 that people demand justice!!

Do it for EVERYONE in #Paris that had been working SO HARD to organize the march and now they are not allowed. Do it for them and for us and the children of the world, of the future....the next seven generations

What would be cool is if we had lots of stiltwalkers, they make it all so exciting...I wish Angel had stilts...anyways some wonderful signs you can make with your kids. This is a GREAT teachable moment where you can get your kids involved and take them to this event. It will be fun but it will have a huge message and it will imprint them for life. MAKE A STAND TOGETHER TO SAVE OUR MOTHER EARTH!! #CLIMATEJUSTICE #SOCIALJUSTICE

People's Climate March!! Get it Done!!

http://peoplesclimate.org/

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC52nOmdkl7GgjUmpm-9mbgg

For Immediate Release
September 17, 2014
March Organizers See Surge of Momentum for People’s Climate March; Over 100,000 expected for September 21
New York City — Over 1,000,000 flyers have been handed out across New York City in the last five days. Hundreds of volunteers are canvassing subway stations across the city. 496 buses are coming in from nearly all 50 states. More than 32 marching bands are ready to play. It’s official: the People’s Climate March is going to be big.

If the weather holds, over 100,000 people are expected to attend demonstration on Sunday to demand bold action on climate change. Police have blocked off traffic on Central Park West from 59th St. to 86th street to accommodate the tens of thousands of students, workers, parents, scientists, beekeepers, and more who are joining the march.

A People’s Climate March will host a general press availability and press conference will take place on Central Park West between 59th st. and 61st st. from 9:30am-11:00am on Sunday morning. The press conference, from 10:00-10:30am, will feature a diverse group of seven people telling their personal stories of why they are joining the march. Due to limited space, press must RSVP to media@peoplesclimate.org to attend (a RSVP does not guarantee admission).

Beginning at 10:30am, different groups taking part in the march will host small rallies up and down the march route to fire up their contingents or deliver public statements. At 11:00am labor unions will host a rally with thousands of members just south of Columbus Circle on Broadway.

The march will begin at 11:30 a.m. at Columbus Circle, head east on 59th Street, then south on 6th Ave, west on 42nd Street, and finish at 11th Avenue and West 34th Street. The front of the march is expected to reach the end of the route at about 2:00pm.

At 1:00pm, after a moment of silence to honor those impacted by climate change and the fossil fuel industry, the march will “Sound the Climate Alarm” with drums, trumpets, vuvuzelas, and over 20 marching bands. Churches across the city will ring their bells, as Jewish temples blow their shofars, as part of this global climate chorus calling for action.

The march is the product of months of frenetic organizing. At a pop-office on 42nd St and Madison Avenue, dozens of volunteers are working the phones and laptops late into the night to help with the Get Out The March (GOTM) effort. Student activists report that there are now young people coming in from 320 campuses across the country. In the “Faith Hub,” hundreds of local and national religious institutions, from all backgrounds, are turning out their members for the march.

Across the East River at a three story warehouse in Bushwick, artists, cultural workers, and hundreds of volunteers are churning out banners, placards, puppets, inflatable art pieces, and giant floats that will be pulled by biodiesel vehicles (or by hand) during the march.

“This is the final crunch, the product of six months of work to make the People’s March a big, beautiful expression of the climate movement,” Rachel Schragis, who is helping coordinate the arts hub told the New York Times on Wednesday.
