this new year, let's go sober. let's disconnect.
Something is happening to our digital world, and I don't think we fully understand what we're participating in anymore.
We scroll, we click, we share, we watch. Algorithms decide what we see. Artificial intelligence creates content. Bots imitate people. Corporations collect our attention and information.
And most of us have absolutely no idea what's happening behind the screens, who's controlling what, how our information is being used, or what the long-term consequences will be.
Even our everyday online experiences are becoming harder to understand.
Perhaps it's time to step back.
This new year, disconnect for a year if you can. Start with one hour. Then one day. Then a week. Keep going as long as you can.
If you return, start again. There is no failure in trying.
Do it for your mental health. Do it for your children. Do it for society. Do it for the future.
Let's stop feeding the outrage, the cruelty, the violence, the endless consumerism and the systems that profit from our attention.
Let's reconnect with real people and the world around us.
We don't know where all of this is going. We don't know what is happening behind the screens. But we do know that we have a choice about how much of our lives we hand over.
Maybe it's time to take that choice back.
This new year, let's go sober. Let's disconnect. Let's reclaim our humanity.
