could this change how america elects its president?
There's an important movement underway in the United States that more people should know about.
It's called the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact.
Here's the idea: Instead of allowing the Electoral College to determine the winner of a presidential election, participating states agree to give their electoral votes to whoever wins the national popular vote.
Why does this matter?
Under the current system, a candidate can win the most votes across the entire country and STILL lose the presidency.
Campaigns also concentrate on a handful of swing states, often ignoring millions of voters elsewhere.
So far, 18 states plus Washington, D.C. have joined the agreement, representing 222 electoral votes.
They need 270 to activate it.
Recent Democratic election victories in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Nevada could create an opportunity to gain the remaining votes, but those states still need to formally join.
This wouldn't technically abolish the Electoral College, but it could fundamentally change how it works.
Imagine a presidential election where the person who receives the most votes nationwide actually becomes president.
One country. One popular vote. Every vote matters.
It's worth paying attention to this one.
