We did it! Langara #Carving4Reconciliation panels complete!

So we did it! I couldn't make up my mind where to post first to share our wonderful news!!

Yesterday was the completion of our responsibility in creating, designing, carving, caring for the red cedar panels and the yellow cedar circles.

Since September 2016 when I won a Carving Award to attend Langara's Reconciliation Carving Cohort, 17 brave souls have been learning and carving together from Justin Wilson, Aaron Nelson Moody, Shane Pointe and many other beautiful souls to create these sacred panels.

Langara was given a sacred name https://mylangaratrccarvingjourney.blogspot.ca/2016/09/musqueam-naming-ceremony-for-langara.html

These sacred pieces were created to honor the children of the Residential Schools who never came home and those Survivors who live with the trauma the rest of their lives and also honor the Missing and Murdered Indigenous women.

This has been a very difficult journey. One I find so hard to put into words.
We had our ceremony yesterday..I had to speak and it was so hard to voice anything of the billions of thoughts racing through my mind. I just told everyone I loved them.

It was such a beautiful ceremony...I cried through nearly all of it.

It is really hard to explain and so I won't try. Garwin Sanford is working on a documentary so we will see how that all goes.

I am going to make a video too but right now I am so exhausted from so much emotion.

"Just know that some people said we shouldn't do this, some thought we couldn't do it, but we have shown everyone we can! "

We have demonstrated that people of all backgrounds and beliefs can come together and work together to try right wrongs. We can acknowledge the terrible truths and we were all witnesses and now we must work with the education systems and all social networks to share the truths and help those who don't know, to  understand the evilness of the past (and present) and help those suffering to cope. There is still so much work to be done but this is a baby step in the right direction.

Here's some photos.

Carvings for Reconciliation.
One panel honors the  murdered and missing indigenous women. One panel honors the children who never returned home from residential school, or who came home forever changed...

I will add the names of the artists/carvers  to pieces in a bit.  Just so you understand the piece. In the center is a design by Aaron Nelson Moody http://splashingeagle.ca/ it is of salmon and all they represent with there struggle to survive and being a life source and life giver. Each of our cohort created a piece to represent themselves. The panel represents all of us. One heart, one mind. Nautsamat!! We are one!

Shane Pointe - from Musqueam and Squamish Nations put Red Ochre on our hands and told us wash our hands. It was very sacred. We then placed our hands on the panels and pushed/shifted the panels to Langara College and the witness saw and heard them take "responsibility " of our sacred work honoring the missing and murdered women and the children of the residential schools.

The Musgamagw Dzawada’enuxw Nation have stood in opposition to fish farms in their territory for nearly 30 years. Since time immemorial they have protected their salmon and herring  for future generations.

"Our people have spoken."

Fish farms must be removed from our territories.

FOUND!! -Sacred Regalia Lost! Please Share!

Wonderful news. The hats were found. HURRAYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!! Thanks to the kind gentleman who kept them safe and the person who connected them with a craiglist ad. Lovely!! What great energy!Hugs all around.

On Friday August 12th, at approximately 10:45 AM our dance group director and a few dancers were leaving our residence near Brunette and Nelson in Coquitlam, going to a performance at Blue Mountain park.
As we were packing up the vehicle, four (4) of our hand woven cedar bark hats were left on the roof of the car and accidentally forgotten there.
We are unsure of where the hats fell off the car, or where they could have landed as we were driving south on Brunette to Braid Station.
If anyone in the area has seen them or picked them up we would be forever grateful to have them returned to us.

They are invaluable, sacred pieces of our regalia and we wish to find them.

Strength in Unity.

This short documentary details contemporary Indigenous resistance to tar sands pipeline expansion, in particular the Line 9 and Energy East pipelines, which threaten the health of our territories in the northeast of Turtle Island. It includes the voices and perspectives of Dene, Wolastiqiyik, Mi'kmaq, Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee and Wet'suwet'en land defenders.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Law_of_the_Rights_of_Mother_Earth
Law of the Rights of Mother Earth

(Spanish: Ley de Derechos de la Madre Tierra) is a Bolivian law (Law 071 of the Plurinational State), that was passed by Bolivia's Plurinational Legislative Assembly in December 2010.[1][2] This 10 article law is derived from the first part of a longer draft bill, drafted and released by the Pact of Unity by November 2010.[3] The full bill remains on the country's legislative agenda. The law defines Mother Earth as "a collective subject of public interest," and declares both Mother Earth and life-systems (which combine human communities and ecosytems) as titleholders of inherent rights specified in the law.[4] The short law proclaims the creation of the Defensoría de la Madre Tierra a counterpart to the human rights ombudsman office known as the Defensoría del Pueblo, but leaves its structuring and creation to future legislation

The law defines Mother Earth as "...the dynamic living system formed by the indivisible community of all life systems and living beings whom are interrelated, interdependent, and complementary, which share a common destiny; adding that "Mother Earth is considered sacred in the worldview of Indigenous peoples and nations.[6]

In this approach human beings and their communities are considered a part of mother earth, by being integrated in "Life systems" defined as "...complex and dynamic communities of plants, animals, micro-organisms and other beings in their environment, in which human communities and the rest of nature interact as a functional unit, under the influence of climatic, physiographic and geologic factors, as well as the productive practices and cultural diversity of Bolivians of both genders, and the world views of Indigenous nations and peoples, intercultural communities and the Afro-Bolivians.[7] This definition can be seen as a more inclusive definition of ecosystems because it explicitly includes the social, cultural and economic dimensions of human communities.

The law also establishes the juridical character of Mother Earth as "collective subject of public interest", to ensure the exercise and protection of her rights. By giving Mother Earth a legal personality, it can, through its representatives (humans), bring an action to defend its rights. Additionally, to say that Mother Earth is of public interest represents a major shift from an anthropocentric perspective to a more Earth community based perspective.[8]
