Holiday Photos 2015

Well it's that time of year. The hustle, bustle and sound of Christmas is in the air.
I was a little blue earlier. It's going to be great, I am sure, but things were different last year and I think many people feel the same. Things are very very tight financially this year.

As I walked past all the lovely stores and totally out of reach items I was thinking how weird...it's almost like Victorian times, with all the rich fancy clothes and supposedly fancy people and then the rest. The 1% and the rest, Right!

But I thought I can not fix it(at this moment), so I bought myself and family a chocolate and said maybe I can not spend $300 on an outfit (a months groceries) but I can treat myself to $3 worth of chocolate at Purdy's. And so that is what I did.

Here are some photos of the adventures I have had the last few days ( I really covered a lot of ground) and I didn't even take photos for some of it. I selected the best, hope you like them.

CLEAN UP YOUR MESS VALE!!

Published on Dec 9, 2015
On 4th Dec 2015, the world's biggest ore producer, Vale, held a shareholders' meeting and press conference at the Mayfair Hotel, London.

A month earlier, on 5th November, two tailings dams burst in the state of Minas Gerais in the south-east of Brazil. The dams were managed by Samarco, a joint venture between Vale, and the Anglo-Australian mining giant, BHP Billiton.

An environmental disaster was unleashed as 60 million cubic metres of toxic slurry flattened five settlements and filled the River Doce floodplain. Twenty three people were killed, 600 displaced, and a quarter of a million left without clean water.

The dirty mud has since travelled 500km to the ocean, and despite assurances from Vale, the UN have backed up local studies that show the effluent is high in toxic metals including arsenic.

This is the fifth accident in two years in the area, and Vale (given the 'Nobel Prize of Shame' in 2012) had ignored prior warnings about tremors and the structural integrity of their dams.

Protesters gathered outside the Mayfair hotel and gave Vale a demonstration of mud contamination and a clean-up, as Brazilian performance artist, Tiago Gambogi, was joined by independent activists, supported by members of London Mining Network, and BP or not BP.

We are Sacrifice Zones: Native Leader Says Toxic North Dakota Fracking Fuels Violence Against Women

Please Share This! You will NEVER hear this on the news and PEOPLE need to WAKEUP and see the TRUTH "

Ever since we’ve had the oil industry enter, we’ve had these jobs that were created, but there were 11,000 jobs created and over 10,000 people that came into our state. And we’ve had violence against women increase by 168 percent, particularly in the area of rape. We have 14-, 15- and 16-year-old girls that are willingly going into man camps and selling themselves."

"We call them that because there are literally thousands of men living in these hovels. They’re like FEMA trailers or RV parks or wherever they can find space, that used to be a wheat field or a sunflower field, is now an oil-fracking operation. And so we’ve seen an increase greatly of crime and violence, drug abuse. I have buried two young girls, my friends, this last year, who got addicted to the heroin, because we now have organized crime.

As far as the environmental toxins, we won’t even feel the effects for 20 years. And I’m so worried that at this COP21 my two-and-a-half-year-old daughter won’t have a say, but she will be experiencing the worst impacts. And it just doesn’t make any sense to me that this is the 21st COP and we are considered sacrifice zones in my community."

Since the late 80's, thousands of liberal minded individuals have gathered in the Nevada desert for a festival known as Burning Man and if Saskatchewan farmer Tom Vernon has his way, those same free spirits will be flocking north this December to attend his festival "Melting Man."
"If they're willing to spend a week in the hell hole that is the Nevada desert, surely enough they'll do Saskatchewan in the middle of winter." - Tom Vernon, farmer

On Saturday December 12, the UN climate negotiations between nearly 200 countries finally resulted in what world leaders called a historic agreement marking the end of the fossil fuel era.

To put pressure on decision makers before the final announcement of the deal, thousands of civilians and climate activists in Paris mobilized to form giant "red lines" in the center of Paris, to symbolize the boundaries that negotiators must not cross.

VICE News finds out why the French authorities lifted the ban on protests for the end of the COP21, why people are protesting when the climate deal is being celebrated as a ‘turning point’, and meets a UN Climate Summit observer and former key negotiator to find out what the deal really means.
