Praise Love

Have you heard of the Queen of Code

Wow, it's exciting to watch and hear the story of what an important role women played with computers and their beginnings. Please share this with your girls and let them know the accomplishments that Grace Hopper and many other women played.

They often referred to her as "Amazing Grace"

Wikipedia-http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grace_Hopper

Sadly I don't like the idea that she was somehow responsible for solving the problem that enables the bomb and death of many,  but that is just one interpretation and she made many more accomplishments that should definitely be highlighted.

From Wikipedia- "She is credited with popularizing the term "debugging" for fixing computer glitches (inspired by an actual moth removed from the computer). "

Please check it out for yourself.

You Can't Please Everyone, So You Got To Please Yourself!

"I learned my lesson well," ...I never heard this song and I really didn't know who Ricky Nelson was. I asked my friend to make me a Cd and he put this song on there. I was very intrigued and so I looked it up and I then I found the whole story. So sweet and sad. :(

Powerful Message to Remember: You Can't Please Everyone, So You Got To Please Yourself!

Post# 1002- I Carry You in my Heart!

Well Moma, it's been 8 years today. I can't believe so much time has passed and I miss you all the time. I wonder what it would have been like if only...

If only...we did so many if onlys when Daddy died.  We humans tend to do that, don't we.

Well Moma, I know you're close by and I can feel give me that hug or pat on the back when I need it.

It's tough, I'm sad that Angel did not have the time to spend with you. If only...

We moved so many times...trying to get settled...but mainly because I wasn't grounded anymore. You were gone...I wasn't grounded...but we found our way...you helped. I know you did.

Well Moma, I miss you, Angel will be home in a bit and I want to finish this before she gets here.

I love you. I think of you often and the only way I get through it is I carry you in my heart.

i carry your heart with me (i carry it in
my heart) i am never without it (anywhere
i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling)

i fear no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) i want
no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)

Post #1001 Gardens EVERYWHERE in the city!

YES! YES!YES!!

Let this be true, that everyone's yard turns into a garden.  Woot!! That in 10 years there will be gardens with food everywhere and green everywhere and we will have to tell kids stories of a time in the past when there was such ignorance and silliest that people were not allowed to raise chickens, bees and have gardens.

Watch and let's make this a reality!! Please let it be so, after yesterdays crushing news that the city lost it's battle with CP and Arbutus Corridor Gardens will be destroyed. :(

POST #1000 Boat Fire near Burrard Bridge

Update: Here is a photo that my friend Sean shared. His boat was in the same marina.

He states : "In case you want to know what remains of the boat that burned at Burrard Marina on Tuesday night - it was refloated and hauled out to Granville Island Boat Yard. Here's what is left:"

It *was* a Beneteau 36. Now it's probably little more than a spare keel...
~Sean
----------------------------------------------------------------

My condolences to the owners. :( Very Sad! So glad no one was hurt! Hopefully this is a wakeup call that they need a way better system down there. If it had been windy that night it could have been a much different story. ~ Tina
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today is my 1000th post on the Tina Winterlik blog. http://tinawinterlik.blogspot.ca

I was looking for something special to blog about but I sure wasn't expecting this.

Last night, there were about 14 emergency vehicles screaming up and down our streets, going around in circles...looked like a lot of confusion.

You see there was a boat on fire in the marina down under Burrard Bridge, near Harmony park. You may have heard they closed the Coast Guard Office there despite huge protests.

Well they got the fire out, but I tell you I was nervous at first because at first there were reports it was near Granville Island near Fisherman's Wharf and I was worried about where I work.

Here's my tweets trying to figure out what was going one.

While all this was going on I madly phoned my friend but couldn't get through so texted him and this is what he said.  He's updated me since.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello all

Some of you might have already heard the news that there was a boat fire at Burrard Marina last night. Sounds like the fire started shortly after 10 PM, my phone started going nuts with phone calls, texts and e-mails shortly thereafter.

I had my people on-scene giving me reports shortly after. (yes, I have "people"...! well, fellow boaters at Burrard Marina). One lives in an apartment with a good view overlooking the marina, and was able to confirm the location of the fire. (nowhere near my boat "Hale Pau Hana", thank goodness!) A second was able to scoot down to the marina, met with the security guard, and got more details.

Fire boat, multiple fire trucks, and the hovercraft "Siyay" were all on scene. I received updates from Port Metro Vancouver's Operations Centre as well.

The boat was a Beneteau 36, "Allons-y" at slip N-7 (east side, nearer to Granville Island.) The boat burned to the waterline, and later sank. The mast bent 90 degrees, collapsed onto the dock, and is currently holding the sunken hulk in place. Oil-spill booms were deployed to try and contain the floating cinders and sheen of spilled diesel fuel.

Two neighbouring boats were moved away, one just in the nick of time, it's showing severe heat damage with melted plastic windows and singed canvas, and blistered fibreglass.

I was there at 7:45 AM to survey the scene. Some pics are posted here:
(Sorry link doesn't want to work.)

As for cause of the blaze... too early to tell.

Here's a few of Sean's Smith pics, check out the link for the rest

To give you an idea of exactly where it was my friend made this map.

Vancouver Fire crews fight a boat on fire at Burrard Civic Marina. Coast Guard was also in attendance but took them 45 minutes to respond. If they did not close the Kits Coast Guard Station then rescue crews would have been on scene in seconds.

Post #999 The Gardens Lose, We all Lose!!

It's tragic and heartbreaking...all those hours of love in attention and just peaceful enjoyment of the beautiful gardens are going to be destroyed. :( So sad and man we have no idea what is come down the track.

If we have trains passing through here...Insanity! Someone said they are going to store fuel there...others say it's going to be condos. What ever it isn't good news for us.

I am happy I documented the gardens but it's a very sad day. Kudos to everyone who tried so hard we shouted but our voices were not heard. :( :( :(

Post #998 Save the Artist's Cabin

This is very sad. Destroying something for money. Yes they say it's to clean it all up and remove the toxic chemicals but it's about condos. Everyone can see that when they read this. Tragic that they would treat elderly people like that, especially artists that have been living there for years. Why couldn't they just wait until they pass on. How cruel. Shame on this city and government for treating them this way. Reflects very poorly on the city.

"Mr. Neil, now 90 – a musician, composer and visual artist who received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Vancouver Mayor’s Arts Award last year – has lived in the cabin on and off since 1966, serving as a sort of beach watchman for the company next door, McKenzie Barge. He initially paid rent to the shipyard – $15 a month, “and then eventually they said don’t bother,” says Ms. Itter, a sculptor and writer who joined Mr. Neil 13 years after he moved in."

Carole Itter, above, says Port Metro’s warning of financial repercussions for non-compliance are very unnerving: ‘We have a little savings, and if it all gets tied up in that, I don’t know what we would do.’

Artists Al Neil and Carole Itter’s cabin under demolition threat in North Vancouver

http://www.straight.com/arts/809251/artists-al-neil-and-carole-itters-cabin-under-demolition-threat-north-vancouver

"The cabin—built as a Coal Harbour float home during the 1930s but beached between Deep Cove’s Cates Park and the McKenzie Barge shipyard for the past several decades—has existed in a state of legal limbo for years. It’s on land owned by Port Metro Vancouver, the entity that has given Itter and Neil until January 31 to vacate the premises and that is threatening to charge them for the cabin’s removal or demolition."

The wife of the Saudi blogger Raif Badawi, who was sentenced to 1,000 lashes for criticising leading clerics, says King Abdullah has referred his case to the supreme court amid an international clamour over his flogging.

Ensaf Haidar, who lives in Canada with the couple’s three children, told the BBC the decision had raised hopes that the authorities wanted to end her husband’s punishment. But there has been no official statement from the Saudi government.

The authorities had already postponed Badawi’s flogging on medical grounds after a doctor said wounds from a previous lashing had not healed. Campaigners said the move exposed the “outrageous inhumanity” of his punishment. Read more here

Does Fox News Terrorise Us?

Yes, I do find Fox news terrifying? It's so disheartening that someone would say the things that woman says. She must be a robot or she's being paid a lot of money like he says, it's all about money.

Bet she has a hard time sleeping at night and explaining that kind of hatred to her kids. :( :(

Like he says at the end "Be Loving!!" "Create our own systems!!"

I'm Crazy, I'm Mental, I'm Talking about it!! - Howie Mandel

Time we all reach out and start helping one another, being empathic and not making people feel bad because they have mental health issues. Love what Howie says!

It's also time for the government to WAKE UP and address the financial burden caused when you do not take care of those in need.

Here's some fun!! I Love this!!

Today something sad happened. Actually many sad things happened.

In France, 12 people- artists were murdered. It is a sad sad day and many people took to Social Media to vent their shock, heartache, anger, frustration and they did it through arts.

Hard to read through them all with out crying. Terrible! Horrible!

Artist Unite!!

The irony is that Angel drew this lovely drawing, she very painstakingly had traced a form from
the computer and then added gold embellishments. It was for a character her friend was creating. She took it to school and put it on a shelf to keep it safe. Some other kid apparently scribbled all over it and in the corner wrote "It Sucks!"

Poor kid, she was so happy with her work and I was so happy because she was off the computer and drawing and it looked great! Anyways the teacher is handling it...but she kept Angel's piece so I will add it here tomorrow.

I suggested she could draw it again, but she said "no!" She's going to draw a different character. I'm sad for her but she's being very strong about it.

And all this is odd because today is the day I wanted to share my latest painting with you.

So for the people who lost their lives today I send my deepest condolences to their loved ones and shout  "Long Live Art and Self-Expression!!"

My latest painting doesn't have a title yet, but it's a vision of the future. At first it was Angel looking at the seashore with all the buildings, but I didn't paint them with super straight lines...I was leaving it for later...more detail.

That was about a month ago. I have been looking at this painting for about a month with out touching, that is when I know I am done.

There's some pics of my other paintings below.  These are my SAVE OUR COAST series. Stay Tuned for more. ;)
