Uber Safety Warning: A Story Every Rider Should Read

🚨 Uber Safety Warning: A Story Every Rider Should Read

On Friday, something truly terrifying happened to a woman just trying to get to an appointment in Vancouver. She called an Uber from Commercial Station—just a short ride away—but instead of a 5-7 minute drive, she was taken on a detour... to a back alley.

This wasn't a misunderstanding. This was predatory behavior masked behind a rideshare platform we’re told is safe.

During the ride, the driver handed her a business card—not for future transportation—but with an unsettling smile, inappropriate touching, and a disgusting comment:

"I've never slept with anyone before. Text or call me if you ever want to hang out."

When she tried to get out of the car, the doors were locked.
He quickly parked, reclined his seat, and grabbed her—whispering in her ear, pulling her toward the back seat.
She managed to escape.
But what if she hadn’t?

She kept the business card so she could report him—and so we can warn others.

👇 Here's what you need to know:

  • The card identifies the driver as Avikash Verma and says “Uber Driver at Your Service”
  • Offers executive pickups, doctor visits, airport trips
  • Serves Vancouver to Fraser Valley
  • Has a black Honda CR-V (seen in the photo)
  • Operates via UberX

🔴 If you have taken a ride with this driver, please report your experience to Uber immediately and contact authorities if you felt unsafe.

🚺 Ladies, Protect Yourself:

  • Share your location in real time with someone you trust.
  • Sit in the back and have your phone ready.
  • If something feels off, trust your gut and end the ride.
  • Do NOT engage with drivers who make inappropriate comments—report them immediately.
  • Uber lets you report behavior mid-ride—use that feature.
  • Take a screenshot of the license plate and profile if something feels wrong.

💬 A Personal Note:

I’ve had creepy taxi rides myself. Once a driver asked too many personal questions after a long airport trip. I just wanted to get home, and suddenly I was worried he now knew where I lived.

Another friend—a former taxi driver himself—was recently taken on a confusing Uber route by a driver who didn’t know the city or where to turn.
They charge extra for those delays—which makes it not just unsafe, but scammy too.

This isn't just about one driver. It’s a pattern. Vancouver is getting scarier for people who don’t have safe, reliable, affordable transportation options.

✊ Let’s Speak Up:

Uber says it's about convenience, but how convenient is it when you're terrified in the back of a stranger's car?

We must hold Uber accountable, report these incidents, and protect one another.

Please share this story. Someone you know might be next—and they deserve to be warned.

Stay safe, Tina Winterlik aka Zipolita

Did You Watch "The Matrix"

 French and Spanish translation below

🌐 I Never Watched The Matrix — Here's Why I'm Thinking About It Now

I have a confession: I’ve never watched The Matrix.

I know — it’s a classic, right? A cult film that everyone references. The kind of movie that left a permanent mark on our culture. But I avoided it. I just don't like violence or gore, and I remember my sister telling me it had a lot of that. I’ve always been someone who seeks calm, color, nature, kindness. So explosions and gunfights? Not really my thing.

But lately, I keep seeing the phrase: "red pill or blue pill." People drop it in conversations, posts, politics — like everyone just knows what it means. I got curious. So, I read about it.

And now, I get it.

🟥 Red Pill vs. Blue Pill

In The Matrix, there's a moment where a character named Morpheus offers Neo (the main character) two pills. One red, one blue.

  • Blue Pill: Stay in your current life. Forget the questions. Return to your routine.
  • Red Pill: Wake up. See the truth. Even if it’s uncomfortable or painful.

Neo chooses the red pill — and discovers that his world was a simulation, a prison for the mind, designed by machines. The "real world" is a dystopia, but it’s real. That moment — choosing to know the truth, no matter how hard — became a metaphor for awakening, freedom, and rebellion.

💡 What It Means to Me

I still don’t plan to watch the movie (though I might watch a few clips one day). But the metaphor resonates deeply.

We all face our own red-pill moments — those times when we can either look away or look deeper. Do we pretend everything’s fine, or do we start asking harder questions? About society, power, money, the systems that shape our lives?

For me, writing about poverty, injustice, and the struggle for dignity — that's my version of taking the red pill. Choosing awareness. Trying to help others wake up too, even if it's uncomfortable.

⚠️ A Word of Caution

One thing I learned while reading: the "red pill" idea has been misused by some online groups — especially by angry or extreme voices, twisting it into something toxic. But the original meaning was about liberation, not hate. Freedom, not division.

The creators of The Matrix — the Wachowskis — are both transgender women. They've said that The Matrix is about breaking free from a system that tells you who you're allowed to be. That gives the red pill even more meaning.

🌱 My Kind of Awakening

I may not need to watch gunfights to understand what it means to wake up. For me, awakening looks like:

  • Picking up a paintbrush and sharing color on city walls.
  • Writing truths that others are too afraid to say.
  • Listening to stories of struggle, and refusing to stay silent.
  • Believing that kindness and art can be revolutionary.

Maybe I’ve taken the red pill in my own way. Quietly. Creatively. Peacefully.

And maybe that's enough.

Wishing everyone a thoughtful Sunday. Stay awake, stay kind.

Spanish and French translation below

🇪🇸 Traducción al Español: "Nunca vi The Matrix — Pero ahora entiendo el mensaje"

Tengo una confesión: nunca vi The Matrix.

Me dio curiosidad. Así que leí sobre eso.

Y ahora lo entiendo.

🟥 Pastilla Roja vs. Pastilla Azul

  • Escuchar historias difíciles, y no quedarme callada.

Ça m’a intriguée. Alors j’ai lu un peu.

Et maintenant je comprends.

🔴 Pilule Rouge vs. Pilule Bleue

Restez éveillé·e·s, restez bienveillant·e·s.

When the System Takes and Doesn’t Give Back-Part 1

When the Job Ad Asks for Everything — and Offers Very Little

Series: When the System Takes and Doesn’t Give Back

I saw a job ad the other day that made my stomach turn.

It asked for everything:

  • Multiple certifications, including Infant/Toddler and Special Needs
  • Years of experience in childcare, coaching, and consulting
  • Trauma-informed and culturally competent practice
  • Skill in conducting needs assessments, creating training materials, recruiting staff, liaising with partner organizations
  • And of course — passion, compassion, commitment, collaboration, innovation

All for $26.74 an hour.
Part-time.
No benefits listed. No childcare provided. No support in sight.

This is the reality for so many people working in child care, social services, and community support roles — fields overwhelmingly staffed by women and immigrants. We are constantly told this work is “important” and “meaningful,” but the pay and conditions say: you’re lucky to be here.

And this isn’t a one-off.

It’s a pattern: roles that require everything from you emotionally, mentally, and physically — but offer little security, stability, or compensation in return. These are jobs held up by love and necessity, not fairness.

Women are expected to work full-time and raise kids. To run homes and care for aging parents. To be everything, everywhere, all at once — with no real help from the system.

Even some men — partners, co-parents — still expect women to do it all: bring home big wages and be the primary caregiver. Even in some communities where “traditional roles” once offered balance, the modern Canadian economy doesn’t care — every woman is expected to earn.

Meanwhile, to make that happen, Canada brought in thousands of Filipino women under the Live-In Caregiver Program. They left their own families to care for other people’s children — so those women could go to work. And now? Many of them, and many Canadian women, are expected to carry the next burden: elder care.

Alzheimer’s. Dementia. Chronic illnesses. Our elders are aging, and once again, the weight falls on women — whether in families or underpaid care roles. The work is demanding, exhausting, and deeply human. And yet it’s still not treated with dignity.

The truth is: the system runs on the backs of women. Always has.

And until we name that — and fight for better wages, supports, and recognition — it will keep asking for everything, and giving back nothing.

FLOOD THE STREETS AND DEMAND SAFETY FOR WOMEN AND GIRL

🚨ENOUGH IS ENOUGH: TIME TO FLOOD THE STREETS AND DEMAND SAFETY FOR WOMEN AND GIRLS🚨

By Zipolita aka Tina Winterlik

I am sickened. Enraged. Heartbroken.

A 14-year-old girl was sexually assaulted at knifepoint in broad daylight in Vancouver, and the man arrested was already on probation for another sexual assault. Let that sink in.
He was out. On the streets. Free.
And now a young girl has to carry that trauma for the rest of her life.

Where is the justice?
Where is the protection for women and girls?
Where is the outrage?

We used to march.
Women used to organize and walk at night to Take Back the Night. We knew the streets belonged to us too, and we weren't going to be afraid.
Now? The predators are let out over and over, and we’re told to stay vigilant, carry pepper spray (which is illegal here!), and avoid walking alone.

But when do they face consequences?

There have been a string of sexual assaults in Stanley Park and other parts of Vancouver lately, and it feels like no one in power is doing a damn thing.
We’re gaslit into thinking things are "mostly safe" — while women and girls are being hunted in public spaces.

I used to feel safe. I don’t anymore.
And I know I’m not alone.

So here’s my call:
Let’s flood the streets again.
Let’s organize.
Let’s rise up like the women before us did.

Let’s TAKE BACK OUR CITY.

March. Scream. Hold signs. Demand change.
Because if we don’t, they will keep letting them out — and more girls, more women, more people will be hurt.

DEMANDS TO START WITH:

  • Mandatory psychological assessment reviews before parole for violent or sexual offenders
  • Real consequences for breaching probation
  • Transparency from the justice system about high-risk offenders in our communities
  • Immediate public forums and safety plans from local government
  • Restore and increase funding for women’s shelters, trauma support, and legal advocacy

That young girl — she could have been any of us.
Any of our daughters, sisters, nieces, or friends.

This city has failed her.
Let’s make sure it doesn’t fail anyone else.

Surviving on $26.74 in Vancouver: Stories from the Edge

Surviving on $26.74 in Vancouver: Stories from the Edge

By Tina Winterlik aka Zipolita

This morning I saw a job posting:
$26.74 an hour — part-time — years of experience and education required.
And it hit me. Again.
How broken this system is.

Let’s break this down:
Rent in Vancouver for a 1-bedroom averages $2,500+.
On $26.74/hour part-time? You’re lucky to make $2,100/month — before taxes.

What happens when you’re a parent, or a senior, or someone drowning in student debt?
What happens when you’re just trying to survive in a city built for the rich, supported by a system designed to profit off the rest of us?

Let me introduce you to some imaginary—yet painfully real—voices from Vancouver’s underbelly:

Maria, 38, Social Worker
“I did everything right. I got my degree, then my master’s. I just wanted to help people. Now I’m $80K in debt, working part-time for less than a living wage. My teenage son works evenings to help with groceries. That’s not okay.”

Raymond, 67, Retired Construction Worker
“I built condos I could never afford. Now I rent a moldy suite from someone who wasn’t born when I started pouring concrete. My pension’s a joke. I spent a lifetime working and still ended up poor.”

Ayesha, 24, Immigrant Caregiver
“They needed caregivers, so I came. I clean toilets, change diapers, and sleep in a shared room. My degree doesn’t count here. I send money back home and eat rice every day.”

Lena, 52, Admin Assistant & Caregiver
“My daughter has a disability. I work two jobs. One’s just to keep the extended health plan. They want a degree for $26/hour part-time. Meanwhile, I skip meals to afford my daughter’s medicine.”

Jasmine, 17, High School Student
“My mom couldn’t afford rent anymore. I live on friends’ couches. I want to graduate, maybe be a writer. But how do you focus on homework when your stomach’s growling?”

This is Vancouver.
This is Canada.
And this is why we need to talk.

Our city is being polished and sold to the highest bidder while the people who actually make it run are being priced out, worn down, and erased from the narrative.

The industrial system demands productivity.
The education system promises mobility.
The bureaucracy wraps it all in red tape and polite language.

But who holds it all up?
Women. Children. Seniors. The poor. The invisible. The silenced.

It’s time we listened.
It’s time we questioned every job ad, every budget, every salary cap for CEOs of “non-profits” that do nothing for the people they claim to serve.
It’s time we told real stories.

If you see yourself in these voices, know that you are not alone.
And if you don’t — listen harder.

Suzanne Valadon: From Muse to Master

Suzanne Valadon: From Muse to Master — The Bold Life of a Trailblazing Artist

By Zipolita (Tina Winterlik)

I recently came across a powerful video that reignited my fascination with a revolutionary female painter — Suzanne Valadon. Her life story reads like a novel: full of passion, resilience, and artistic brilliance. Here’s a deeper look at this incredible woman who defied convention and carved her own space in the male-dominated world of art.

Who Was Suzanne Valadon?

Born Marie-Clémentine Valadon in 1865 in Montmartre, Paris, Suzanne came from humble beginnings. Before she ever picked up a paintbrush, she worked as a circus acrobat, nanny, and artist's model. She modeled for giants like Renoir, Toulouse-Lautrec, and Degas — learning by watching them work.

But Valadon didn’t stay in the background. She stepped out from muse to master painter, becoming the first woman admitted to the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts in 1894.

Her Art: Real, Raw, and Radiant

Valadon’s work is known for its vibrant colors, bold outlines, and a fearless portrayal of women. Unlike the idealized nudes painted by men, her female figures are strong, real, and unapologetic. She painted from life — bodies with stretch marks, emotional expressions, women lost in thought or deeply present in their own space.

Top 5 Must-See Suzanne Valadon Paintings

  • The Blue Room (1923)
A woman lounges in striped pajamas, smoking a cigarette. Books and patterns fill the room.
    Where: Centre Pompidou, Paris.
Why it matters: A radical challenge to the typical nude — here the woman owns her space, clothed and confident.
  • Adam and Eve (1909)
A provocative double nude featuring Suzanne and her younger lover André Utter as the biblical pair.
    Where: Musée National d’Art Moderne.
Why it matters: A symbolic and deeply personal take on love, age, and freedom.
  • Portrait of Maurice Utrillo (1921)
A portrait of her son Maurice, who became a well-known painter despite his struggles with alcoholism.
Why it matters: A heartfelt depiction of her complex role as a single mother and mentor.
  • Joy of Life (1911)
Vibrant, earthy nudes frolic in nature.
Why it matters: A bold, female-driven response to the male gaze in traditional art.
  • Self-Portrait (1898)
Her direct, assertive gaze challenges viewers.
Why it matters: One of the first female self-portraits accepted by the French art establishment.

Why She Still Inspires Today

Suzanne Valadon lived boldly. She loved who she loved, painted what she saw, and refused to be silenced. In a time when women were often denied artistic agency, she claimed it — fiercely. Her legacy reminds us that creativity knows no gender, and courage makes space where there once was none.

If you’ve never seen her art before, now’s the time. Let her bold brushstrokes and powerful figures speak to you. Suzanne Valadon isn’t just part of art history — she’s a woman who rewrote it.

The Growing Concern of Missing Women, Human Trafficking, and Our Duty to Protect

This morning, I heard something that hit me in a way I wasn’t expecting. It wasn’t exactly a shocking revelation, but it was a reminder of just how real and pervasive the issue of human trafficking and missing people is in our community.

A story from an Australian source shared by Vancouver Rape Relief painted a stark picture of older women in abusive situations being at increased risk of violence.

Unfortunately, the threat isn’t just restricted to one demographic. It can happen to anyone—young women, men, and even children. And it’s not just happening elsewhere; it’s happening right here in our own backyard.

Across Vancouver, Vancouver Island, and even the quieter corners of BC, there are growing concerns. Over the years, I’ve heard rumors circulating among families on social media about creepy vans, people following others, and unsettling stories of what’s happening around BC Ferries, Squamish, and Vancouver Island.

Families have shared stories of loved ones being followed, of vans lurking, and of missing people whose whereabouts seem to remain a mystery. It’s strange how often these stories are dismissed by authorities or not taken as seriously as they should be.

What’s even more concerning is the silence of local law enforcement on some of these cases. The fact that these rumors go unaddressed only deepens the fears and uncertainties surrounding these disappearances.

On Facebook and other platforms, people are talking, but nothing seems to change. It feels as though we’re stuck in a cycle of disillusionment, and people start to wonder if anyone is listening at all.

The problem is that this isn’t just a “rumor.” This is a pattern, one that seems to be repeating itself in different places across our region. According to recent statistics, women, men, and children continue to go missing at alarming rates, often with little follow-up from authorities.

Here are some numbers that paint a bleak picture of the issue:

  • Over 200 women in Australia were allegedly killed in family violence-related homicides in the past decade, as reported by The Guardian, with many of those women at risk from abusive partners or even their children.

  • In Canada, there has been a noticeable uptick in missing persons cases. In 2020, over 3,000 people were reported missing in BC alone, many of them young women or vulnerable individuals.

  • Human trafficking is on the rise: Over 1,000 cases of human trafficking have been reported to Canadian law enforcement, but experts believe the number could be far higher due to underreporting.

The truth is that these statistics reflect only part of the problem. While numbers can sometimes numb the situation, the personal stories behind these numbers are heart-wrenching, especially when we think of the lives that go missing and the families who are left in the dark, with no one to listen.

What Can Be Done?

Education is key. We need to ensure that schools and institutions—particularly high schools—are part of the solution. Every single high school should have assemblies, workshops, or even ongoing counseling sessions to raise awareness about human trafficking and the risk of exploitation.

It should be mandatory that every student has access to information on the signs of trafficking and how to report suspicious activity.

Additionally, schools should make it a priority to share resources with students and families, ensuring that they know exactly where to turn for help. After all, many of these incidents are prevented when communities are aware and prepared to act.

Here’s what can be done:

  • Mandatory Education: High schools should have yearly assemblies and classes dedicated to teaching students about human trafficking, its signs, and how to report it.
  • Counselor Resources: School counselors should be trained to identify at-risk students and provide resources on where to go for help.
  • Family Awareness: Parents need to be informed about these dangers too. Schools should offer informational sessions or resources that help families understand how to protect their children from becoming targets.

Helpful Apps & Resources:

If you or someone you know is concerned or suspects someone is being trafficked or exploited, there are resources available:

  • Polaris Project Hotline: Text “BeFree” to 233733 for support in the U.S. and Canada.
  • TraffickCam (Global): This app helps law enforcement identify trafficking victims through photos of hotel rooms. Download it to help with investigations.
  • iThenticate (Canada): Report suspected trafficking directly through this app.
  • Canadian Human Trafficking Hotline: Call 1-833-900-1010 for anonymous assistance or to report trafficking.
  • Fight Trafficking (Canada): A national resource for reporting suspected human trafficking.

A Call to Action

If we don’t start addressing these issues with urgency and compassion, more lives will be affected. Whether you’re a parent, a teacher, or simply someone who cares about the safety of others, it’s time to raise our voices. We need to protect those who are vulnerable, educate the next generation, and demand that those responsible for these crimes are held accountable.

We must demand action—not just from the police, but from our schools, from our leaders, and from each other. Together, we can create a safer world for everyone.

Let’s start the conversation. Share this post, talk to your friends and family, and make sure our schools and communities are doing everything they can to protect the vulnerable among us.

What are your thoughts on how we can better protect our community from human trafficking and exploitation?

Dear Taylor Swift and Swifties,

Dear Taylor Swift and Swifties,

I hope this letter finds you well. I’m writing to you from Vancouver, a city where extreme wealth exists side by side with extreme poverty. While some people here live in luxury, many others are struggling just to survive.

Right now, over 7,000 condos sit empty in the city, while women and children suffer because they cannot afford rent. There are no jobs that pay enough to cover basic needs, and the situation is getting worse every day. Meanwhile, individuals like Chip Wilson, whose estate is worth an astonishing $72 million, continue to live in opulence while the most vulnerable are left behind.

We need immediate change, and one solution I propose is to place Tiny Houses down the bike lanes on Point Grey Road—an area where many wealthy individuals, like Chip Wilson, live. These bike lanes could serve as the foundation for a community of Tiny Houses, offering shelter, dignity, and hope to those who are currently homeless or struggling with high living costs.

This project could do more than just provide homes—it could be a symbol of unity. Imagine creating a pathway that connects the wealthy to local facilities that serve everyone in the community. People living in these Tiny Houses could have access to the same resources, and the bike lanes could serve as a bridge between these two worlds, fostering understanding and interaction among those who are often kept apart. It could be a way for us to get to know our neighbors, break down barriers, and recognize that poor people are not bad people. They are just people trying to survive, just like everyone else.

Not all rich people are bad people, but many, especially the wealthiest, often turn a blind eye to the suffering of those less fortunate. This initiative could help change that narrative, encouraging compassion, empathy, and understanding.

If this message resonates with you, I would love to hear your thoughts. Together, we can raise awareness and inspire change in Vancouver—a city that desperately needs it.

Thank you for your time, and I hope this idea sparks something meaningful within you.

Warmly,

Tina Winterlik (Zipolita)

Vancouver, BC

Canada's Housing Policies and Systems

I asked AI something and this was answer

You’re absolutely right to raise concerns about how housing policies and systems, including the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), impact vulnerable populations.

The CMHC was established in 1946 to address a post-war housing crisis, aiming to help returning veterans and their families find affordable homes.

Over time, it has evolved into a major player in Canada’s housing market, with a dual role of facilitating housing affordability while also operating as a Crown corporation with financial mandates.

This dual role can create tensions between public service and profitability.

Issues with the Current System

1. Housing as a Commodity: Housing in Canada has increasingly been treated as an investment vehicle rather than a basic human need. This shift has driven up prices and rents, particularly in urban centers like Vancouver and Toronto.

2. Rental Market Pressures: High rents disproportionately affect women, single parents, and individuals unable to pool resources to afford housing. For women facing domestic abuse or mental health struggles, the lack of affordable, independent living options exacerbates their vulnerabilities.

3. Focus on Profits: While the CMHC generates significant revenue for the federal government, critics argue that it prioritizes financial stability over addressing systemic housing inequities.

How to Effect Change

To address these issues and create a system that supports vulnerable populations, the following steps could be taken:

1. Strengthen Social Housing Programs:

Increase funding for non-profit and cooperative housing, with specific allocations for women, children, and marginalized groups.

Introduce rent control measures to stabilize costs in overheated markets.

2. Expand Rent Subsidies:

Implement or expand programs like the Canada Housing Benefit to assist low-income individuals, particularly women fleeing abuse, in securing safe housing.

3. Support Livable Wages and Employment:

Address wage gaps and create more opportunities for women to achieve financial independence, particularly through training in high-demand fields.

Encourage flexible work policies to support single parents and caregivers.

4. Reform Housing Policies:

Establish a national strategy that prioritizes housing as a human right, shifting focus from treating homes as assets to ensuring accessibility.

Implement stricter regulations on speculation and foreign investment to stabilize housing prices.

5. Empower Local and Grassroots Solutions:

Support community-led housing initiatives, such as land trusts or tiny house projects, which offer sustainable and affordable alternatives.

Provide grants to organizations helping women secure independent housing.

Addressing Market Instability

If the housing market faces a downturn, it presents both risks and opportunities. Falling prices could make homeownership more accessible, but economic instability could exacerbate challenges for renters. Policymakers must ensure that relief measures focus on protecting tenants and low-income homeowners, rather than primarily bailing out developers and financial institutions.

Advocacy and Engagement

Grassroots movements and public pressure are critical. Organizations and individuals can advocate for policy changes by:

Writing to elected officials to prioritize affordable housing in budgets.

Supporting non-profit developers and housing co-ops.

Raising awareness about housing inequities through blogs, social media, and activism.

A combined effort of policy reform, community action, and corporate accountability can pave the way for a more equitable housing system, empowering women and vulnerable populations to live independently and with dignity.

Tiny House Warriors I hold my hands up to you!!

"We, the Secwepemc, have never ceded, surrendered, or given up our sovereign title and rights over the land, waters, and resources within Secwepemcul'ecw," tribe leaders said in a statement, adding that they "have never provided and will never provide our collective consent to the Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain Pipeline Project. In fact, we hereby explicitly and irrevocably refuse its passage through our territory." https://www.commondreams.org/news/2017/09/08/inspired-standing-rock-first-nations-tiny-house-warriors-protest-pipeline-project

This. I had a vision way back in the early 90's and in the 2013 I made this video. But I have never really liked it because when I made the animation, I didn't it do it true to the vision. In the vision it was an indigenous child with brown skin, not white like I did this video. I want to remake it. The Tinyhouse Warriors.. they are the future, I may not survive, my child or your child may not but I pray they do and I know they will because they have the will and determine and they have the knowledge. They have elders to teach them and they have land. Let's help them in any way we possibly can. Help them protect the MOTHER. Do it for our children's children in hope for a better future. They are the true changerz. Sending out love and light to them all and holding my hands up to them.

How to End the Fentanyl Crisis

https://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/smokeydevil/?hl=en
#Smokeydevil

Do you ever feel really small and think what can I do. Are you tired?
I am. Sometimes I feel like I want to quit this blog but then I read something and I think...this needs a voice. I am small, right now I am poor and at the end of the month homeless, I am single mom of a beautiful 15 year old girl and this fentanyl crisis is freaking me out. I haven't personally lost any friends or family to this crisis but I do know many who have and it's devastating. Any loss of life is devastating. GRIEF! Been there.

I come up with all these cRaZy thoughts and my kids says "what are you on?" Nothing! I just have these ideas that pop into my head. Insights! Right now to me, it feels like this Fentanyl crisis is very similar to the small pox epidemic. Many people don't really know about it, we are just learning more as those enlightened enough delve into the muddy waters of so called "Reconciliation."

We are losing so many lives on the DTES (everywhere) but the stats are showing it's a high percentage of First Nation women. The matriarchs! These poor souls who have suffered so much already from the legacy of the Residential schools, from being in Foster Care, from being pushed aside and forgotten by society..these single moms, these children, homeless, preyed upon by other sick souls and the very government that is supposedly elected to protect used and abused them and just single parents in general. OUR SOCIETY IS REALLY F*KED UP!!

IT'S NOT SUPPOSED TO BE THIS WAY! I could go on a long rant about how we are supposed to be hunters and gatherers and 200 years ago, at this time of year huge amounts of salmon would be arriving and the men would be helping fishing and women would be cleaning, drying the salmon. The women would be harvesting berries, the women would be gathering roots and making cedar clothes. Everyone would be working and getting ready for winter. Everyone had a job, home, and love...NOT LIKE NOW!!

Am I making any sense? Women had women to rely on. They had children but they could find their own food and if you study anthropology- is they provided most of the diet. But in today's women, especially single moms are treated like shit. Either you work yourself to death and have someone else raise your child (i.e. lovely hard working Philipino nanny ) and your kid has her morals, not yours...because you weren't there...or you have to live in precarious oppressive situations or God forbid the government swoops in and steals your child.

Why do you think these women are using drugs. To numb the pain of all that I just mentioned.

Enter Fentanyl. BIG PHARMA!

This is going to be a long rant, you might want to get a coffee and some kind of treat because this is ugly shit and not nice to talk about but I need to vent here and if you want to stick around well, I hope I enlighten you or if you are already maybe you can share.

My arms are already sore from typing...I've got tendonitis, so I can't type to much for to long. It's why I can't take many labour jobs, it's why I should be on disability but disability is as evil and de-humanizing as welfare. It's not enough to live on, proving your poor is humility, proving you can't actually work is even more exhausting and depressing and I refuse to grovel to the government- unknown entities who see you as a number and can dismiss you with a keystroke. So many suffer from this useless system. And Christy Clark, thank god she's gone she help propel this shit to the level it is. And John Horgan, while I love what you have been doing so far, $100 extra month is NOTHING!! NOTHING!! NOTHING!! NOTHING!! NOTHING!! NOTHING!!

WE NEED BASIC INCOME NOW FOR ALL SINGLE PARENTS!!!

(and tiny houses on all the streets, close them, hook the houses up to street facilities, plant gardens everywhere, shut down all the shipping and shit, use local only, clean up the harbour, bring back OUR SALMON, teach our kids how to survive with no F*CKNG electricity, because WHEN THAT SOLAR STORM, earthquake, Tsunami, hurricane, flood, or god forbid MOON misses the U.S. and hits us...help our child have some sort of tools to survive.. even if it's just a few.. DO IT FOR OUR CHILDREN'S CHILDREN)

whew! breathe...1, 2, 3... That feels a little better. I needed to vomit that all up! BLAK!

Last night on the news this lady was saying about all these kids in OTTAWA starting back to school and they were afraid for them. One mom said that when she was young if you smoked a joint it wasn't the end of the world..now maybe it is.

I remember when I was little... 12 ...my sister she gave me this book called GO ASK ALICE, it was supposed to warn me about drugs, because people were doing LSD and jumping off roofs and shit..in honesty ...it made me want to do drugs. Go figure!

DRUGS... WHAT ARE THEY? Let's talk about that for a minute.

My mom had open heart surgery when I was 14, she had all sorts of health issues, she may have had Lupus we don't know, she hurt all the time. She was on meds up the ying yang. She took prenizone, you know that one, it's evil. After she had been on it 10 years we read it caused all sorts of evil things. She died 10 years ago. GRIEF- remember I mentioned it above...hit me really hard. My mom was grieving for years. My dad took his life when I was 11 years old. She had 3 teens to raise, she had 4 kids but the oldest was already married and all that pressure took it's toll on them ...I remember mom saying to me...that she had to get a job or the welfare would take us. When my dad took his life there life insurance was void. My mom was an incredibly strong beautiful loving woman and she survived, she raised us and she got me through school even though I encountered some awful teachers and wanted to quit so bad. She survived another heart attack later on when my child was just 5 months. She hurt all the time and BIG PHARMA was pumping her full of drugs.

I remember near the end. I was so scared. I had had a falling out with my family, I had no money. My kids dad is Mexican, he is lucky he make $20 a day so he can't help...and we are not together, so I get nothing. I am on my own...anyways, I had social assistance when my kid was born up until 3. Then they were kicking me off so I figured out how to get into a Co-op, some really lovely people helped an I managed to move but I didn't want some people to know...I was just scared...scared all the time...just like so many of these single moms/dad, aunties, caring for kids...that the welfare system will come steal our kids and force them into some evil situation where they will be abused, used and preyed upon..(a lovely legacy of the residential school-(sarcasm here...I hope you realize).

Anyways, my mom was in terrible pain, she couldn't take alot of pain killers and she called an asked me could I please get her some medical marijuana...she was ready to try anything...and I was living in Nelson- and green was BC underground ecomony and how we survived the recession if you are clueless to such things. But I told her no. I was scared. I was so scared someone would see me and then I would lose my kid.

Why am I telling you all this? If you are still with me...Hello! Thanks for listening.

Drugs. They are F*KING EVIL. but what kind of drugs. In the sixties parents were afraid of LSD, in the 80's is was cocaine, in the 90's it was crack, in 2000 we were back to heroin (thanks to 9/11) and now it's a FENTANYL CRISIS!

Where's it coming from? I heard it's coming from China, ...the heroin is coming from Iraq, Iran, Afganistan...I don't know...somewhere like that, because of the wars, and it's coming up from Mexico and South America...along with cocaine.. all thanks to the lovely WAR ON DRUGS.  War makes wars...just in a different way. NEGATIVE ENERGY FEEDS IT!

So lets step back a minute. What are some natural so called drugs/medicines. Natures medicines.
Coca leaves-https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coca
Ayahuasca-https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ayahuasca
Peyote-https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peyote
Marijuana- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cannabis_(drug)
Psilocybin Mushrooms  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psilocybin_mushroom
Opium-https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opium

So if you looked back in history and at true Indigenous- hunting gathering societies, they all have medicinal herbs that the shamans/medicine man/woman/two-spirits/peoples gave to people who were dealing with GRIEF or some other kind of troubling event.

Did you ever see IN THE HEART OF THE WORLD. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRgTtrQOiR0  they warned us back in 1990's to take care, that we were screwing up the world and we better stop. They use the coca leaf to think well, to find answers to their problems, the shaman guides them.

The Huichol Indians in Mexico use peyote http://entheology.com/peoples/huichol-indians-of-mexico/

In South America they use Ayahuasca https://templeofthewayoflight.org/shamanism-ayahuasca/ayahuasca-healing/

Oaxaca Mexico they use Mushrooms  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mar%C3%ADa_Sabina

Opium had been used since ancient times - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opium

So what's my point about all this. My point is where is the connection and disconnection.

Do you think that someone who has a home, food to eat, children to raise, is surrounded by loving people is going to turn to "drugs". Maybe is someone they love dies, or many and they are in grief the shaman would help them. But what is happening right now if you STEP BACK and LOOK at the big picture is that women are being thrown aside, their children must suffer the consquences and you have EVIL BIG PHARMA spewing forth it's vomit onto poor suffering souls.

The opiate crisis is at it's peak because doctors- (so called healers.. ya right)  have been medicating people with DRUGS to stop chronic pain, to medicate (depression), to zombize (ADHD) our children...

Some people say it's the governments big plan. Drug those who won't fall into line, jail those who won't fall into line, anesthetise the children who won't swallow the garbage beliefs of hypocrisy...I guess war is next... history repeats...

Apparently dealers put a little bit of fentanyl in one packet so someone purposely od's leading users to thing that it's super high quality and they risk getting it because they want the best high. Doctors/BIG PHARMA created this issue by prescribing https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxycodone
for pain. https://www.drugs.com/oxycontin.html

Is any of this making sense...it's what they did and our doing to our First Nations, especially our BEAUTIFUL STRONG MATRIARCHS, the women who fought so hard to raise strong young men and women to carry on. It's colonialism, yes, and the legacy of the residential schools and corporate greed, it's today's government and society using and abusing the most vulnerable..the women and children. They are wiping out the women, women who love the earth and wan to protect their mother. They are wiping out the mothers.

Fixing fentanyl means treating trauma that creates addicts

They are wiping out our WILD SALMON.

They are poisoning us with Fossil fuels.

Are you still with me?

HOW DO WE RISE? HOW DO WE CHANGE THIS? With art right? We resist, we share?
What else can I do at the moment. So this morning I came across the first article shared and thought what can I do, to give this man a voice, to give a voice to everyone who has lost someone they loved to this evilness. And that's why I made this post. So I am sharing. It's all I can do because I am having a hard time keeping my head above the water...I am trying not to drown...just as the mother, our beautiful mothers, and mother earth is drowning.

So what I am I doing for my part in all this mess. I am USING ART TO RESIST, JUST LIKE I RESISTED THE Canada150 with Canada150plus JUST LIKE #smokeydevil

Use ART LIKE A DRUG!! Heal yourself, save your friends, RISE UP and let's take back the control. Let's save the mothers, grandmothers, children and let's SAVE MOTHER EARTH. She doesn't need us but I think she still loves us just like all your inhabitants, but if we keep hurting her, hurting each other, hurting ourselves..well she will hurt us..she won't mean to but she will just be protecting herself. Does that makes sense? Are you still here!! THANK YOU!

Thank you! If you have read even some of this page, thank you. I hope that teachers, parents, professors, doctors, everyone will read my page and share it and discuss what I am saying. We need to calm down, but we need to rise in a peace way. We need to reach out support and love one another.

In the video above Deepak Chopra says something about "we think we are outside of nature, we are not, we are part of nature, maybe if we calm down, nature will calm down" (not a direct quote, to tired to go get it)

BUT ISN'T IS OBVIOUS!
With all the awful energy, with the hate being spewed in the world, especially of late, no wonder the storms are getting bigger...yes our ignorance and disrespect of mother earth is causing climate change but you must get to a much higher level and step back and see it for what it is. Energy. We are all energy.. positive and negative energy...it has to go somewhere... how will we use that energy, our energy. One day our energy will go back into the earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust...let's call upon our ancestors, the positive energies of the universe to help us in this hour of need. Let's reach out and love one another, let's help each other. Do it for our children's children.

Sending love and light. I love you all. I love the water, the ocean, the dirt, the birds, the sacred cedar trees, the moon, the sun, I love everything and I ask you to think, eat and pray love like that book says. Be love today. Let's turn things around.

Reconciliation Carving Series - Langara College- Fall 2017

I was at Langara College today. Had to drop of a few things and they happened to be having the orientation for the Reconciliation carving program. These are the sacred panels we created.
Our program brought together Indigenous and Non-Indigenous and we worked together to design and create them.

One panel honors the children who did not return from the Residential schools and one panel honors the Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women.

There is a new program starting this fall and I ask you to inquire and share the info and encourage people to participate so we can all "move forward in a good way!"

------------------------------------------------------------

Reconciliation Carving Series

https://langara.ca/…/ab…/reconciliation-carving-program.html

Space available for September 2017!
Langara's Aboriginal Studies Department, in partnership with the Fine Arts Department, offers a unique Aboriginal carving series that is open to all students.
Students will complete two carving courses and an applied research course. Under the supervision of acclaimed Coast Salish artist Aaron Nelson-Moody, students will collaborate on the creation of two reconciliation house boards. Once complete, the house boards will become part of a planned outdoor Aboriginal space on Langara’s campus. Langara Film Arts students will document the carving process. Read more

----------------------------------------------------------------

There is so much work to be done and it starts with you and me. We must each take responsibility and help heal the wounds and create a better world for our children and children's children.

If you are interested in my TRC Carving Journey you can read about it on my blog here.

Choose Love-Be a Good Neighbour!

I saw a disturbing post about the world being on the brink of nuclear war and Nazi's in the streets....sound familiar...only this wasn't in the past ...it's right now...this weekend.

STOP!! Right now....
Look at the state of the world and think well about the future you want for yourself, your families and those you love.

Do not let history repeat. Practice love. Teach Love! Love yourself, your family, your neighbour, love the differences. Never embrace hate, greed or ignorance or this will be our fate. Watch this film from 1952.. it was made 10 years before I was born. I saw it in grade 5. It was shocking and imprinted deeply...but it would take years before I realized it.

Warning: violence - not suitable for young children or those triggered by violence.

Beatles - All You Need Is Love from SimDo on Vimeo.

The Beatles Lyrics
"All You Need Is Love"

Love, love, love
Love, love, love
Love, love, love

There's nothing you can do that can't be done
Nothing you can sing that can't be sung
Nothing you can say but you can learn how to play the game
It's easy

Nothing you can make that can't be made
No one you can save that can't be saved
Nothing you can do but you can learn how to be you in time
It's easy

All you need is love
All you need is love
All you need is love, love
Love is all you need

Love, love, love
Love, love, love
Love, love, love

All you need is love
All you need is love
All you need is love, love
Love is all you need

Nothing you can know that isn't known
Nothing you can see that isn't shown
Nowhere you can be that isn't where you're meant to be
It's easy

All you need is love
All you need is love
All you need is love, love
Love is all you need

All you need is love (All together, now!)
All you need is love (Everybody!)
All you need is love, love
Love is all you need
Love is all you need (Love is all you need)
Love is all you need (Love is all you need)
Love is all you need (Love is all you need)
Love is all you need (Love is all you need)
Love is all you need (Love is all you need)
Love is all you need (Love is all you need)
Love is all you need (Love is all you need)
Love is all you need (Love is all you need)
Love is all you need (Love is all you need)
Love is all you need (Love is all you need)
Love is all you need (Love is all you need)
Yee-hai! (Love is all you need)
Love is all you need (Love is all you need)

Yesterday (Love is all you need)
Love is all you need (Love is all you need)
Love is all you need (Love is all you need)
Love is all you need (Love is all you need)
Oh yeah! (Love is all you need)
She loves you, yeah yeah yeah (Love is all you need)
She loves you, yeah yeah yeah (Love is all you need)

Happy Indigenous Peoples Day!

I like the sound of that. I was having issues with the Happy National Aboriginal Day!

It definitely should be a holiday, and definitely needs renaming!!

Happy Indigenous Peoples Day!

"Education and awareness are two steps that lead to understanding that should lead to action," he said. "Having a statutory holiday for Indigenous Peoples Day is a way of educating Canadians, it's an opportunity to listen and learn. I think we've got to really interact more together and learn from each other because there's just not enough integration either way. We still live in solitudes."
