Franklin the Turtle Deserves Better — Not to Be Turned Into a Weapon

🐢 Franklin the Turtle Deserves Better — Not to Be Turned Into a Weapon

I’m 62, so Franklin wasn’t part of my childhood. I grew up on CBC classics — The Friendly Giant, Mr. Dressup, Sesame Street, The Electric Company — gentle shows that taught kindness, creativity, and imagination. Those were the programs that shaped my early world.

But when I had my child at 40, they grew up with Franklin the Turtle. And Franklin quickly became one of the loveliest shows in our home. The animation was warm and beautiful, the stories simple but meaningful, and Franklin himself was everything we want children’s characters to be: kind, thoughtful, gentle, honest.

So when the U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth posted a meme of Franklin dressed in military gear, firing a weapon at a boat — without permission from the publisher — I felt disgusted. And yes, furious.

Franklin is not a weapon.
Franklin is not a mascot for violence.
Franklin is a symbol of childhood safety.

To twist him into a tool of political messaging during a moment when real people have died in U.S. military strikes is shocking, disrespectful, and deeply out of line. The publisher condemned it because it goes against everything Franklin stands for — and as a parent who watched those gentle lessons with my child, I agree completely.

Children’s characters are sacred spaces.
They teach empathy, not aggression.
They soothe, they comfort, they help little minds grow.

Taking a character built on kindness and turning him into propaganda is not clever — it’s disturbing. It shows how numb society is becoming to violence, how quickly innocence gets co-opted for shock value or political stuntwork.

Franklin — like Friendly Giant, like Mr. Dressup, like all the characters who shaped generations — deserves better. And so do the kids who grew up loving him.

🐢💛 Keep children’s characters out of warfare.
Let Franklin stay who he was: a gentle friend, not a fighter.

Watching With Pride and Concern

As a Canadian, 🇨🇦Watching With Pride and Concern

As a Canadian, I just want to say how incredibly proud I am to witness people across the United States standing up, speaking out, and showing up in the face of so much fear and uncertainty. From state to state, city to city — the courage, the creativity, the solidarity — it’s deeply moving.

But I’m also scared. I see the abuse. I see the intimidation, the threats, the manipulation of laws meant to protect twisted into tools of oppression. I see the fear in people’s eyes — but I also see the fire.

You’re standing up for truth, for democracy, for each other. You’re pushing back against cruelty with compassion, against corruption with clarity. And even though I’m across the border, I feel it. Many of us do. We’re watching. We care.

Your bravery reminds us all of what’s at stake and what’s worth fighting for. Please stay safe. Keep documenting. Keep organizing. Keep resisting. The world is watching, and many of us are with you — heart, mind, and soul.

With love and solidarity,

She Asked Us to Share This"

✊🌍 "She Asked Us to Share This" — The Detention of Greta Thunberg and the Gaza Freedom Flotilla

By Zipolita | June 9, 2025

“If you see this video, we have been intercepted and kidnapped in international waters by the Israeli occupation forces…”
— Greta Thunberg, June 2025

Greta Thunberg, Sweden’s world-renowned climate and human rights activist, is currently being held by Israeli authorities after a peaceful humanitarian mission to Gaza. Onboard the Madleen — part of the Gaza Freedom Flotilla — Greta and 11 others were intercepted in international waters, forcibly detained, and taken to an Israeli port.

She sent one urgent request:

"Share this as widely as you can..."

This blogpost is our answer.

💥 What We Know

  • Greta and others were kidnapped in international waters, in violation of international maritime law.
  • The Madleen was carrying peaceful activists, doctors, and humanitarians, not weapons.
  • They were reportedly forced to watch violent footage of the October 7 attacks — a tactic critics call psychological coercion.
  • Greta is being deported, and we don’t yet know where or under what conditions.

🇸🇪 We Call on the Swedish Government:

Bring Greta Home.
This is a matter of human rights, diplomacy, and protecting your own citizens.

📣 Raise Your Voice — in Any Language

🇸🇪 Svenska:

Svenska regeringen — hämta hem Greta nu!
Hon har blivit gripen för en fredlig humanitär insats.
Skydda era medborgare. Stå upp för rättvisa.

“They can detain the boat, but not the movement.”

We See You. We’re Watching. We’re With You. ✊

🇨🇦 We See You. We’re Watching. We’re With You. ✊

From across the border, we see what’s happening.
We see your courage. We see the injustice.
We see the fear and the strength it takes to rise anyway.

We may be in Canada, but our hearts are with you — every step, every chant, every peaceful stand.

We’re watching closely. We’re praying for your safety. And we want to echo the message that’s coming from those with experience in these moments:

🛑 Don’t take the bait.

They’re trying to provoke violence — hoping that one broken window, one spark of rage, will let them call for a crackdown.

They want footage they can twist.
They want to paint you as the problem.
Don’t let them.

🕊️ Stay peaceful. Stay united.

Your power is in your truth.
Your strength is in your numbers.
Your victory will come from your discipline.

We know it’s hard.
We’ve seen reports of MAGA extremists trying to intimidate protesters — driving into crowds, flashing weapons, even targeting journalists.
We’ve seen threats to elected officials and Trump attempting to use military force against peaceful people.

This isn’t leadership. It’s desperation.
And desperate people lash out when they feel power slipping through their fingers.

📽️ They want another January 6th. Don’t give it to them.

We all remember what happened then.
We remember the violence.
We remember who stormed the Capitol and who stood silent — or cheered.

We also remember the peaceful marches, the unity, the art, the resistance that inspired the world.

That’s what wins. That’s what lasts.

📅 June 14th is coming. Make it count.

Nationwide protests are planned. Let the numbers speak. Let your voices rise in peace, power, and purpose.

Let them see millions standing strong — and staying calm.

As a Canadian watching with deep love and hope:
You’ve got this.
Stay sharp. Stay peaceful. Stay true.

FLOOD THE STREETS AND DEMAND SAFETY FOR WOMEN AND GIRL

🚨ENOUGH IS ENOUGH: TIME TO FLOOD THE STREETS AND DEMAND SAFETY FOR WOMEN AND GIRLS🚨

By Zipolita aka Tina Winterlik

I am sickened. Enraged. Heartbroken.

A 14-year-old girl was sexually assaulted at knifepoint in broad daylight in Vancouver, and the man arrested was already on probation for another sexual assault. Let that sink in.
He was out. On the streets. Free.
And now a young girl has to carry that trauma for the rest of her life.

Where is the justice?
Where is the protection for women and girls?
Where is the outrage?

We used to march.
Women used to organize and walk at night to Take Back the Night. We knew the streets belonged to us too, and we weren't going to be afraid.
Now? The predators are let out over and over, and we’re told to stay vigilant, carry pepper spray (which is illegal here!), and avoid walking alone.

But when do they face consequences?

There have been a string of sexual assaults in Stanley Park and other parts of Vancouver lately, and it feels like no one in power is doing a damn thing.
We’re gaslit into thinking things are "mostly safe" — while women and girls are being hunted in public spaces.

I used to feel safe. I don’t anymore.
And I know I’m not alone.

So here’s my call:
Let’s flood the streets again.
Let’s organize.
Let’s rise up like the women before us did.

Let’s TAKE BACK OUR CITY.

March. Scream. Hold signs. Demand change.
Because if we don’t, they will keep letting them out — and more girls, more women, more people will be hurt.

DEMANDS TO START WITH:

  • Mandatory psychological assessment reviews before parole for violent or sexual offenders
  • Real consequences for breaching probation
  • Transparency from the justice system about high-risk offenders in our communities
  • Immediate public forums and safety plans from local government
  • Restore and increase funding for women’s shelters, trauma support, and legal advocacy

That young girl — she could have been any of us.
Any of our daughters, sisters, nieces, or friends.

This city has failed her.
Let’s make sure it doesn’t fail anyone else.

Enough Is Enough: The System Is Broken and We’re All Paying the Price

By Tina Winterlik aka Zipolita

Another brutal attack. Another headline. Another person in crisis. And again, the system shrugs. The accused in the recent unprovoked attack on a tourist on Vancouver’s seawall didn’t just “snap out of nowhere”—he was failed, repeatedly, by a system that claims to care.

He was released after a domestic violence incident. He violated his release conditions. He was off his meds, and his own mother was begging for help. Instead, he was sent back to her care—without support, without supervision, without compassion. And now a stranger is left with a broken face and trauma that may last a lifetime.

What more do we need to see to admit the system is not just cracked—it's shattered?

People with mental health issues are suffering. Their families are suffering. And now, total strangers are getting pulled into these cycles of crisis. Police, courts, health services, housing—they’re all operating in silos, ticking boxes instead of saving lives. This isn’t justice. This isn’t care. This is negligence wrapped in bureaucracy.

Enough is enough. This has to be a turning point.

If we truly care about community safety, about human dignity, about preventing tragedy instead of reacting to it, we have to start making real changes—today. Here's where we start:

5 Ways to Flip the Script and Stop the Cycle

  1. Mandatory Mental Health Monitoring Post-Release
Anyone released on bail with a known mental health diagnosis must be automatically connected to a care team and receive supervised follow-up. No gaps. No exceptions.

  2. Create Crisis Support Housing with Wraparound Care
Families should not be the last line of defense. We need housing solutions that include on-site mental health workers, security, and trauma-informed staff—safe for the individual and the community.

  3. Integrated Court-Mental Health Response Teams
Judges, lawyers, and police should be required to consult with mental health professionals before issuing bail or release conditions for at-risk individuals.

  4. Real Accountability for Violations of Release Conditions
Breaching bail—especially after a violent offense—must trigger immediate review and intervention, not another release slip and crossed fingers.

  5. Community-Led Oversight and Advocacy
The public must have a voice. We need watchdogs, not just in media, but within the system. Survivors, family members, and mental health advocates must be part of policy-making and review boards.

We say we’re a compassionate society. But compassion means action—not after another person is hurt or killed, but before the damage is done. Let this case not be another forgotten headline. Let it be the beginning of real change.

Because next time, it could be your mother. Your daughter. Your friend. Or you.

OPEN LETTER: There Has to Be a Better Way

OPEN LETTER: There Has to Be a Better Way

To:
Hon. Josie Osborne, Minister of Health
Premier David Eby
Prime Minister Mark Carney
Psychiatrists and Medical Professionals across British Columbia
Indigenous Leaders and Healers
Directors of Mental Health and Addiction Treatment Centres
And to the People of British Columbia
,

We write this letter out of grief, frustration, and an unwavering hope for change.

Our province is in crisis. We see the same names and faces cycling through the system—arrested, released, hospitalized, discharged, only to end up back on the streets, in the courts, or dead. Families are shut out by privacy laws. Doctors make rushed decisions. The system loses track. And the public, traumatized by repeated tragedies, is told to move on.

Enough is enough.

This letter is not an accusation. It is a plea—and a proposal. We believe that with compassion, collaboration, and the courage to admit what’s not working, there is a better way.

1. Emergency Stabilization with Oversight

We propose a system where people in severe crisis from addiction or psychosis can be compassionately placed in involuntary care for a short, medically necessary period—just long enough to withdraw safely, eat, rest, and be assessed. This care must be trauma-informed, culturally safe, and reviewed by independent oversight. No more releasing people to die on the streets because no one wants legal liability.

2. Restore Family Rights

Families—especially parents—are often barred from helping their adult children, even when it’s clear their child is in danger. At the same time, children as young as 12 can make life-altering decisions without a parent’s consent, and often without proper follow-up. This contradiction in the law is harming families and putting lives at risk. We need flexible, compassionate policies that include loved ones in care decisions when a person is clearly unable to make them alone.

3. Accountability in Psychiatry and Medical Practice

Psychiatrists and doctors are among the highest-paid professionals in the province, yet many people in crisis get 15-minute assessments and are sent away. There is no consistent follow-up, no continuity of care, and often no communication between providers. This cannot continue. We call for mandatory follow-up plans, cross-agency communication, and accountability for premature discharges and poor outcomes.

4. Honour Indigenous Knowledge and Healing

Indigenous communities have been disproportionately affected by addiction and mental health failures. Yet they also hold some of the most powerful models of healing. We must embed Indigenous knowledge, leadership, and culturally rooted approaches in every part of our mental health system—not as an afterthought, but as foundational practice.

5. Long-Term Care and Purpose

Once stabilized, people need housing, purpose, and community. We must provide real pathways to recovery: transitional housing, supported employment, skill-building, peer support, and reconnection to culture and identity. A society cannot call itself compassionate if it discards people after the crisis ends.

We ask you—our leaders, our healers, and our fellow citizens—to rise to this moment with vision, compassion, and the urgency this crisis demands.

Let’s rebuild a system that doesn’t just patch wounds—it prevents them, heals them, and honours the lives at stake.

With respect and determination,
Tina Winterlik (aka Zipolita)

For all the families, communities, and lives we refuse to give up on.

A Mother's Plea

It's painful but honest. This could be your child or mine and it's TERRIFYING. 💔😢

Open your hearts.❤️ We NEED great change and we need it NOW!

COPIED from Christine Moore's FB page

 We’re leaving Sunday for Nelson.

It’s a trip that comes with heavy emotion.

The K9 search is about to begin—something I’ve been pushing for since January. The conditions finally allow it: the weather is safe for the handler and the dogs, and the terrain is ready to be searched. What I’ve long fought for is now happening.

And yet I go with a weight in my chest that’s hard to put into words.

This is the tightrope I walk—every single day.

My heart tells me I need to be there, just in case.

My mind tells me to stay away, just in case.

This is the war I live with: the hope for answers and the fear of what those answers might be.

We won’t be part of the search itself. That’s left to the experts. But my heart wins over my mind.

So we go.

We go because love demands it.

We go because the unknown is worse than the truth.

We go because no parent should wait in silence far away while others search for their child.

Nelson is a beautiful place—on the surface. But for me, the city carries a heaviness that’s hard to explain. A darkness that doesn’t come from its landscape, but from the tension just beneath it—a city at war with its own conscience when it comes to the unhoused.

I’ve seen comments comparing Nelson to Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.

Let me be clear:

I’ve walked the DTES.

I’ve driven those streets looking for my son.

I’ve stepped into shelters. Sat with people others pass by. Looked into eyes that still carry pieces of the children they once were.

There is no comparison.

People living on the DTES describe it as “the end of the road.”

It’s not just a crisis—it’s apocalyptic.

It’s a place where hope fights for air.

And yet even there, humanity is still alive—if we’re willing to see it.

I’ve been called a bleeding heart.

If that means refusing to look away, refusing to dehumanize people suffering on our streets, then I’ll wear that name with pride.

Because when I walked into places others called “drug dens,” I didn’t see criminals—I saw stories. I saw pain. I saw the wreckage of a system that lets trauma, mental illness, and addiction fester until people are unrecognizable even to their own families.

And I’ve spoken with frontline officers, too. One officer told me plainly: even they don’t feel safe walking the DTES.

And that should never be the case—not for them, and not for the people forced to live there.

He spoke of families who are desperate—watching their children spiral while they’re powerless to intervene. The lack of wraparound supports is so severe that some parents—grieving, afraid, and helpless—feel there are no options left. That letting their child go is less painful than watching them slowly disappear on the streets, in the throes of addiction.

And I ask myself this every day with Christopher:

If he’s in the grip of heavy drug use…

If his schizophrenia is unmanaged and worsening…

If he’s alone, vulnerable, and unable to access care—

How is that anything but a danger to himself?

How can we say he’s choosing this, when his ability to choose is so deeply impaired?

We’ve created a system where even when someone’s life is visibly at risk, families can’t step in unless they meet a narrow legal threshold.

We say it’s about freedom. But what kind of freedom is this?

We keep debating forced treatment, but no one is talking enough about the real issue: what comes after.

There’s no plan.

No coordinated system of care.

No guaranteed housing.

No long-term support.

And cleaning up encampments is not a solution.

People don’t disappear—they move.

They rebuild.

Because what other option do they have?

Meanwhile, the drug supply grows more toxic.

The dealers keep making money.

And the body count keeps rising.

This is not a sustainable system.

It is a slow, collective collapse—and we are watching it in real time.

We need wraparound services.

We need intervention pathways that allow families to act.

We need to treat addiction and mental illness as the urgent, complex health crises they are—not as moral failures.

And I know—some people in Nelson may question why I’m speaking out, because I don’t live there.

But I’m not here looking for approval.

I’m not asking anyone to like me.

I’m asking people to start talking about real solutions.

Solutions that provide safety in their communities

—and at the same time—

ensure the people who are struggling on the streets receive proper, humane, evidence-based care.

These two things are not in conflict.

You can care about public safety and still care about people.

In fact, true public safety depends on it.

Christopher is not invisible.

He is not disposable.

He is a person.

He is my son.

And he is loved beyond words.

I will keep searching for him.

I will keep fighting for him.

And I will keep speaking—for him, and for every family still begging to be heard.

⸻

If this resonates with you, please don’t scroll past.

• Start the conversation in your community.

• Push for change in your province, in your policies, in your people.

• Because if we don’t fight for the vulnerable, who will?

Someone out there is missing.

Someone out there is still alive—but barely hanging on.

And someone like me is still searching.

For me, that someone is Christopher.

End the Violence- MOOSEHIDE CAMPAIGN

Such beautiful wise kind words. Made me cry! Listen!

Published on Feb 9, 2017
Actor, Duane Howard talks about why the BC-born Moose Hide Campaign to end violence towards women and girls is important to him.

http://moosehidecampaign.ca/
"Aboriginal women are three times more likely to experience domestic violence than non-Aboriginal women, and three times more likely than non-Aboriginal women to be killed by someone they know. Too many wives, daughters, sisters, aunties, mothers, and grandmothers are not safe. Too many have been murdered or missing. Too many are being abused by members of the RCMP, by other police forces, and in public institutions.

“Many efforts, projects, and strategies are now under-way throughout the province to change this reality, but as men we can and need to do more” says Paul Lacerte, Organizer and Executive Director of the BC Assn of Aboriginal Friendship Centres. “We need to speak up and take positive action, and we need to support each other as Aboriginal men in our healing journey”.

In order to spread this Movement, Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal men are participating in a Moose Hide Campaign in which they wear a small patch of moose hide to symbolize their commitment to stand up against violence towards Aboriginal women and children.

What the World Needs Now...

What the world needs now is love, sweet love
It's the only thing that there's just too little of
What the world needs now is love, sweet love
No, not just for some but for everyone

Lord, we don't need another mountain
There are mountains and hillsides enough to climb
There are oceans and rivers enough to cross
Enough to last 'till the end of time

What the world needs now is love, sweet love
It's the only thing that there's just too little of
What the world needs now is love, sweet love
No, not just for some but for everyone

Lord, we don't need another meadow
There are cornfields and wheat fields enough to grow
There are sunbeams and moonbeams enough to shine
Oh, listen, lord, if you want to know

What the world needs now is love, sweet love
It's the only thing that there's just too little of
What the world needs now is love, sweet love
No, not just for some, oh, but just for ever, every, everyone

What the world needs now is love, sweet love (oh, is love)
What the world needs now is love, sweet love (oh, is love)
What the world needs now is love, sweet love (oh, is love)

Nochixtlán, Oaxaca, Chiapas- is it really about oil and gas and mining?

Translated with Google from here http://desinformemonos.org.mx/mineria-el-fondo-de-la-masacre-de-oaxaca/
The slaughter of Nochixtlán, Oaxaca where 11 people were killed, more than a hundred were wounded and 18 were taken from a funeral to be presented as arrested by the Federal Police, not only shows the serious democratic setback that lives Mexico, where a demonstration civil responds with the use of firearms heavy gauge despite being banned to discourage any social protest in international protocols.

They also show the inability of Education Secretary Aurelio Nuño, to engage in dialogue and make educational reform that includes actors teaching-learning process fully in promoting education in Mexico.

But Beyond releasing a communication channel, what are the underlying reasons for the Mexican government will act in this way? What hidden and open interests are expressed behind this slaughter? Why the savaging of federal police against the people of Nochixtlán ?, because this place ?. Let us try to approach an answer.

Peña Nieto's government made a series of constitutional amendments with its structural reforms that are to enable the dispossession of land in rural and indigenous areas of Mexico. Unlike the reform of the 90 foreign capital can now fully invest and through national hydrocarbons law to establish schemes are bonded -so definen- where farmers can receive an income only for oil exploration, gas and minerals. It is defined in this regard as priority use energy and mineral food under production or livestock. This reform has progressed strongly in northern states of the country and particularly in Veracruz. Dispossession and effects on health by mining and fracking (exploitation of oil and gas through the fracture of the earth with high pressure water) already live and be felt in many regions of Mexico.

But it is in the southern states and southeastern Mexico, where agrarian tradition is more strongly where capital faces resistance and resolute opposition to their interests. Coincidentally 1. June a few days before the repression in Oaxaca Decree of Special Economic Zones through which spaces for transnational capital (ECT) that would allow them to build infrastructure enclave necessary for the exploitation and export of mineral resources are built was given, energy (such as wind power already installed in the Oaxacan isthmus) and biofuels that have relevantly these areas.

Therefore, what takes place in the state of Oaxaca is the process of breaking down social and community fabric through violence (siege common) would allow the use and full provision of these areas to the dynamics of accumulation by dispossession they have foreign mining companies and domestic and foreign capital were auctioned in rounds 1 and zero last year.

This is serious, if we look at a map can think that this process of erosion and violence of the ordinary, start strongly in the state of Michoacan with full control of drug trafficking in many territories (remember the Michoacan family and massacres of Apatzingan and Tanhuato) under tackles Guerrero Iguala where the slaughter of students showed Ayotzinapa alliances of political power with drug trafficking and mining gold mining in the region. And now comes to Oaxaca precipitously with this news goes around the world. This trend towards the south makes us the question: After Oaxaca, follows a new slaughter in Chiapas then? At bottom this logic Shock -retomando to Naomi Klein looking deterritorialise these spaces, that is, that people leave their other productive and campesindia rationality logic (Bartra) to fully impose their status as employees and agricultural subordination to the needs of transnational financial capital.

The head of the federal police and ultimately responsible for the slaughter of Oaxaca, Enrique Galindo, short and a long list of violent evictions and extrajudicial executions. He led the eviction of teachers socket Mexico City in 2013 with several beaten and gassed. On 20 November 2014 the expulsion of the socket also led the big demonstration that the parents of the missing students Ayotzinapa. Under his leadership the elimination of self-defense in Apatzingan Michoacan, leave 16 dead in January 2015 and Tanhuato were killed 43 people accused of drug traffickers.

Therefore, you can not say that Galindo has no experience in the subject. It was something coldly calculated what happened in Oaxaca on Sunday, which was not anticipated that would film activating firearms, which still denied to date.

Nochixtlán, Oaxaca according to studies by the Ministry of Economy government EPN has a mining potential dating from the colonial era to the case of gold and silver mines of El Dorado and La Soledad and since the middle of last century for Manganese . It has five areas of minerals that are Huaclilla-El Parian, Buenavista, Jaltepec, Jalpetongo and La Joya. It maintains one of the highest averages of ore per ton obtaining in that territory and there is a potential for exploitation of gas. And it is area link between mining areas of the Oaxacan Mixteca where private companies like AHMSA Northern Minerals group have begun exploitation of iron ore, affecting the rights of indigenous peoples.

According to information from the Secretariat of Energy of the federal government more than 15 percent of the Oaxacan territory -more than one million hectares is already leased to mining companies for exploration and exploitation. Among these they include foreign and Mexican companies such as Golden Trump Resources SA de C.V., Linear Gold Corp, Arco Resources Corp., Zalamera, S.A. de C.V. Chesapeake Gold Corp subsidiary, Portland Cement Cruz Azul, SCL, Fortuna Silver-Continuum Resources, Compania Minera del Norte, Aurea Mining Inc., Linear Metals Corp, Radius Gold, Silver Mining Company Real, Newcoast Silver Mines LTD, Aura Silver Resources Inc- Intrepid Mines Ltd.

Already in February this year residents of 48 communities and representatives of 30 organizations demanded the cancellation of 400 concessions and 35 mining projects in indigenous areas of Oaxaca, civil organizations such as EDUCA, Legal Tequio, Union of Organizations of the Sierra Juárez of Oaxaca and Service the Mixe, among others, supported this statement.

Criminalizing and kill members of organizations like the Indigenous Front of Binational Organizations (FIOB), the Council for the Defense of People's Rights (CODEP), the Popular Revolutionary Front (FPR) or the Commune of Oaxaca, among other organizations only has the aim of terrorizing the state and to fully carry out mining activities with its consequent effects on life and indigenous culture, the environment, health and social relationships.

The strategy in the sense of territorial division is something they have done political parties, but in this particular fight the teachers have had to face, and unite the people of the different regions of Oaxaca, Chiapas and Guerrero, where fighting not it is strictly for educational claims but moved already to the defense of the territory, life and ecology. Perhaps that is what detected the federal forces in Oaxaca and wanted to give this coup that would break those social and community self ties.

OAXACA, Mexico (AP) — Violent clashes between police and members of a radical teachers' union who had blockaded roads in southern Mexico on Sunday left six people dead and more than 100 injured, officials said.
The teachers from the National Coordinator of Education Workers, or CNTE, are opposed to the mandatory testing of teachers as part of Mexico's sweeping education reform and are also protesting the arrest of union leaders on money laundering and other charges.
In Sunday's clashes in the southern state of Oaxaca, protesters threw stones and Molotov cocktails, and burned vehicles, while Associated Press journalists saw riot police firing on protesters. Clashes took place in several municipalities in Oaxaca, but the most violent were in Nochixtlan, north of the state capital also called Oaxaca.
