Maybe I Should Run for Mayor 😂
Well… apparently this is why. 😂
Running for public office this fall? Voters aren’t the only ones who need to do their homework. 👀✏️
So I thought I’d do mine.
If I were mayor of Vancouver, my platform would be pretty simple:
🏡 Tiny, dignified homes for everyone who needs one.
🌱 Gardens galore — edible landscapes, community gardens, fruit trees everywhere.
🚲 A city where people actually want to ride real bicycles.
🚗 Get people out of cars by making walking, cycling and transit genuinely easy.
⚡ Dramatically reduce wasted electricity and fossil fuels.
🍎 Good food for everyone.
🏠 No more treating homelessness as somebody else’s problem. Federal, provincial and municipal governments would sit down together and actually solve it.
🚪 Get rid of SROs and replace them with real, secure homes.
🚑 M.A.S.H. units in the DTES and encampments — Mobile Assistance, Support & Housing teams bringing food, medical care, addiction support, housing help and human connection.
And no, we wouldn't show up with bulldozers to destroy someone's only shelter and throw their belongings in the garbage.
We would show up to help.
We'd educate people about addiction honestly — including what it can actually feel like, what happens to your body and your life, and how quickly things can spiral.
And we'd build many doors back in so someone who is falling has more than one chance to be caught.
🎨 ART. ART. ART.
A city needs places for people to create, connect, grieve, heal and belong.
And grieving people? We wouldn't abandon them either. We'd create spaces where people can actually grieve and be supported through it.
Because here's the thing:
I don't think a city should be measured by how shiny its downtown is.
I think we should measure it by what happens to the person sleeping under the willow tree.
By the elderly woman walking around Kitsilano carrying everything she owns in No Frills bags.
By the kid who doesn't have enough to eat.
By the person who is one bad week away from losing everything.
By whether we still have gardens, artists, trees, clean water, community and somewhere to belong.
So yes…
Maybe I should run for mayor. 😂
Zipolita for Mayor?
