Trees Remember a Solar Storm So Massive, It Could Fry Our Tech Today

Trees Remember a Solar Storm So Massive, It Could Fry Our Tech Today — And Almost No One’s Talking About It

What if I told you that 14,000 years ago, the sun blasted Earth with a storm so intense that trees still remember it? And what if I told you that most Canadians haven’t heard a word about it?

This isn’t sci-fi. It’s science.

A newly published study has uncovered the biggest solar storm ever detected — way bigger than the famous Carrington Event of 1859. This storm happened in 12,350 BC, and scientists only just pieced it together by studying ancient tree rings in France and ice cores from Greenland. Both show spikes in carbon-14 and beryllium-10 — telltale signs of a cosmic particle onslaught from the sun.

These kinds of events are called Miyake Events (named after scientist Fusa Miyake, who discovered the first one in 2012). They’re rare, extreme solar storms that leave a global radioactive fingerprint in nature. And they’ve happened at least six times that we know of — and probably more.

But this one? It’s the biggest ever found.

Using a powerful new model developed by researchers in Finland, scientists estimate that the 12,350 BC event was 500 times stronger than the worst solar storm we’ve ever seen in the modern era.

If it happened today, it could:

  • Knock out satellites and GPS
  • Cripple power grids
  • Disrupt air travel and communications
  • Shower airline passengers with dangerous radiation
  • Break pretty much everything we rely on for daily life

But here’s the thing... nobody’s talking about it.

Canada used to have a strong network of local newspapers and community journalists. But in recent years, many of them have shut down. Big tech companies hoard ad revenue, and once-vibrant newsrooms are now empty. That means stories like this — ones that help us understand our world and prepare for the future — just don’t reach people anymore.

That’s why I wanted to share this today. Not to scare you. But to spark curiosity, awareness, and maybe even some action.

Because maybe... just maybe... the trees have been trying to warn us all along.

Let’s listen.

Want to learn more? I’ll be weaving this research into a future part of my storytelling project and book, The Alchemy of Ivy Mae, where ancient knowledge, motherly wisdom, and solar mysteries collide.

Let me know what you think — and share this with someone who loves nature, science, and big questions.

From Dot-Com Crash to AI Layoffs:

From Dot-Com Crash to AI Layoffs: What’s Really Happening in Vancouver?

By Tina Winterlik aka Zipolita

History is repeating itself — and this time, it's hitting Vancouver hard.

The Dot-Com Crash 2.0?

In the early 2000s, the dot-com bubble burst after a frenzy of overinvestment in tech startups. Thousands of workers lost jobs as companies folded overnight.

Fast forward to 2024–2025, and we're seeing the same cycle — but with AI leading the charge. Massive tech layoffs at companies like Microsoft, Google, and Amazon have affected tens of thousands of workers globally. Even software engineers, once considered “safe,” are being let go.

Vancouver’s Tech Scene Feels the Impact

As Canada's “Silicon Valley North,” Vancouver is caught in this tech quake. Companies like Thinkific and Appnovation have laid off significant portions of their staff. Local engineers, developers, and creative professionals are feeling anxious, especially within Vancouver’s highly diverse tech workforce, which includes many South Asian, East Asian, and international professionals.

What’s worse? It’s not just tech. Universities, retail stores, and community programs are also facing cuts, painting a wider picture of economic instability.

What This Means: Prepare, Reflect, Rebuild

This moment is about more than just job losses — it’s a wake-up call. Many people are realizing that chasing corporate stability may not offer the security it once promised. So what can we do?

  • Build Local Resilience: Strengthen community ties, share resources, and support one another.
  • Return to the Land: Create gardens, learn to grow food, build with natural materials — think Indigenous Green, not Corporate Green.
  • Rethink Our Values: Ask yourself — what do I really need to live well? Is the endless hustle worth it?
  • Prepare for Change: Diversify skills, learn to live with less, and stay informed.

The Big Picture

These layoffs and economic shifts are not just temporary hiccups — they’re signals. We’re entering a time of transformation, where people must look beyond money and tech for stability. We can draw inspiration from Indigenous wisdom, regenerative practices, and community-driven solutions.

Let’s support each other and choose a path that respects people, the Earth, and future generations.

If you found this post helpful, please share it. Let’s start the conversation about how we rebuild smarter, stronger, and more connected than before.

Who is the Paypal Mafia

The PayPal Mafia is a term used to describe a group of former PayPal employees and founders who went on to become highly influential in the tech industry. Many of them became billionaires and shaped Silicon Valley’s modern landscape. Key figures include:

Key Members of the PayPal Mafia:

  1. Elon Musk – Co-founder of X.com, which merged with PayPal. Later founded Tesla, SpaceX, Neuralink, and The Boring Company.
  2. Peter Thiel – Co-founder of PayPal, later co-founded Palantir Technologies, was an early investor in Facebook, and a major supporter of right-wing politics.
  3. Max Levchin – Co-founder of PayPal, later founded Affirm, Slide, and was involved in Yelp.
  4. Reid Hoffman – Early PayPal executive, later co-founded LinkedIn.
  5. David Sacks – Former COO of PayPal, later founded Yammer (acquired by Microsoft) and invested in various startups.
  6. Keith Rabois – Early executive, later invested in companies like Square, OpenDoor, and Stripe.
  7. Roelof Botha – Former CFO of PayPal, later became a senior partner at Sequoia Capital.
  8. Jeremy Stoppelman – Worked at PayPal, later co-founded Yelp.
  9. Russel Simmons – Co-founder of Yelp.
  10. Luke Nosek – Co-founder of PayPal, later co-founded Founders Fund with Peter Thiel.
  11. Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim – Early PayPal employees who later founded YouTube.

Why the PayPal Mafia Matters:

  • Shaped Silicon Valley: These individuals either founded or funded companies that dominate tech today.
  • Influence on Politics & Ideology: Peter Thiel and others have been linked to libertarian and neoreactionary ideas, influencing policies on technology, censorship, and governance.
  • Investment Power: Many became venture capitalists, shaping the startup ecosystem.
  • Corporate Takeovers: Some, like Musk, have used their wealth to buy out major platforms (e.g., Twitter/X).

The PayPal Mafia represents a shift in power from traditional banking to tech-driven financial systems and has had far-reaching effects on business, politics, and society.

The Ashes of the Techs- Part 2"

CONTINUATION: "The Ashes of the Techs- Part 2"

EXT. FOREST CLEARING – NIGHT

The firelight flickers, casting dancing shadows as the HOODED FIGURE clutches the cracked MONITOR like a lifeline.

LILA

It doesn’t work anymore.

The figure stiffens, his gaze darting to the children. His hollow eyes narrow, suspicion taking hold.

HOODED FIGURE

(whispering)

Don’t come any closer. It’s mine. You don’t touch it!

The children exchange uneasy glances.

BENJI

(softly)

We’re not going to hurt you.

The figure rises abruptly, clutching the monitor against his chest like a shield. He stumbles backward toward the edge of the clearing, his voice growing frantic.

HOODED FIGURE

You don’t understand! I’ll fix it. I’ll save it. I’ll save you, baby.

LILA

(firmly)

You don’t need it.

The hooded figure’s breath catches. He shakes his head violently, his words tumbling out in a desperate plea.

HOODED FIGURE

You’re wrong! It needs me! And I—I need it. It’s all I have left.

His voice cracks, raw with years of isolation and sorrow.

BENJI

(quietly)

But it doesn’t need you anymore.

The figure freezes, the words sinking in. For a moment, he looks at the monitor in his arms, his grip faltering. His fingers trail across the broken screen, almost tenderly.

Then, panic overtakes him.

HOODED FIGURE

No! You can’t have it!

With a sudden burst of energy, he turns and bolts into the darkness of the woods, clutching the monitor like a lifeline.

BENJI

(shouting after him)

Wait!

The sound of snapping branches and hurried footsteps fades into the distance. The clearing grows still once more.

The children linger in silence, the flickering firelight illuminating their puzzled faces.

LILA

(whispering)

Do you think he’ll come back?

BENJI

(quietly, unsure)

I don’t know.

The camera pans out, the firelight shrinking as the vast, empty forest stretches endlessly around them.
