Since his arrival in the city he had devoted much study to the dotted Pointillist technique, thereby learning how he might apply it in his own fashion. His use of brushstrokes running in a variety of directions created a self-portrait with a halo-like circle round his head. PAINTING BOOTCAMP

This course is suitable for anyone who wants to shake up their artistic practice, throw yourself into different styles of painting, or push yourself to paint quickly.  Expose your work to new ideas and new ways of working.  Get back into your painting groove while trying on different techniques and styles of painting.

You can use whatever medium you feel most comfortable with and/or want to experiment with. Painting occurs outside of class time. Classes are structured to include an instructional lecture on upcoming exercise and handouts. Participants will be expected to produce one painting a week and bring it to class to take part constructive feedback in a group setting. The latter is designed to be empowering and positive.

Cost: $185.000   $100.00

Pre-registration is required. 

Time:  Sat 1 pm to 3 pm

Dates:  Jan 25^th to Feb 29^th 2012

Number of sessions:  six     Class Size Limit:  six

Location:  William Clark Studios, 

                 #7, 1310 Williams, Vancouver BC         

Payment can be by cash, cheque, VISA, MasterCard, Paypal, or installments.

BERNADINE’S DRAWING CLASS

for the Mature Student (45+)

Drawing is the foundation of all art forms and strengthens our hand/eye coordination.  This drawing course focuses on training your eyes to see, your brain to interpret, and your hands to create.  The objective is to introduce (or reintroduce) you to a variety of drawing exercises designed to improve your skills through an analysis of what is being seen and how that is interpreted on paper.  By employing these drawing exercises, you will see a dramatic improvement in your drawing ability within a short period of time.

This class is geared towards both experienced and inexperienced individuals (over 45) who are looking for a supportive environment to practice, rediscover, and/or engage their creative drawing ability. 

Course Details

Cost: $185.000.  Pre-registration is required. 

Time:  Saturdays  10 am to noon

Dates:  Feb 4^th to Mar 10^th 2012

Alley'Oop Hoop Dance

The World of Alley’Oop

This is a performance I did for Hoop Convergence 2010 which highlights the fusion with Native Hoop Dance I have been working on. It was a performance like no other, as the audience was made up of hoopers, which was exciting and unnerving all in the same moment. It was great however to really show what I’m working on to people as into this art as I am. Big thanks to Terrance Littletent for all of his inspiration and teachings and to Julia Hartsell, for bringing the international community together.

Vancouver City Approves Cultural and Theatre grants

City approves cultural and theatre grants for 176 Organizations

March 17, 2011 - INFORMATION BULLETIN: Cultural organizations, including the Vancouver International Children’s Festival and the Vancouver East Cultural Centre, today received more than $7 million in cultural grants and $2.5 in theatre rental grants from the City of Vancouver.

Council approved

$2,984,600 in operating grants for 94 organizations and

5 major exhibiting organizations;

$2,583,300 in theatre rental grants for 21 organizations;

and $502,100 in project grants for 56 organizations.

Theatre rental grants will provide assistance for resident companies including the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Playhouse Theatre Company and Ballet B.C.

Grants provide assistance to develop, create, and produce cultural programs that enhance the quality of life for Vancouver residents and visitors. 

The funds support music, dance, visual and media arts, film screenings, theatre, festivals, multi-media exhibits and more.

Many of the organizations receiving grants will participate in Vancouver’s 125th anniversary celebrations, showcasing the city’s vibrant and diverse arts and culture.

Major institutions receiving grant support for permanent and temporary exhibitions include the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre, the Museum of Vancouver, Science World, the Vancouver Art Gallery and the Vancouver Maritime Museum. 

Artists and performers will benefit from mentorships and residencies hosted by the arts and cultural organizations receiving the grants.

Grant requests are evaluated on artistic merit, organizational competence, community impact, and alignment with and support for the City’s cultural vision and strategic cultural values.

This year’s grant funding is higher than last year’s total.
