Everybody's filming now.
Someone sleeping.
Someone high.
Someone pushing a cart.
Click.
Click.

Somewhere along the way
we normalized suffering.
People look away.
I can't.
This morning
I crossed the street.
“Are you okay?”
Two people on the sidewalk.
One moaned yes.
The other was barely awake.
“What's your name?”
“Shane.”
“Hi, Shane.
I'm Tina.”
I asked if they were okay.
I contacted outreach.
Then I kept walking.
Because I couldn't fix it.
I'm unhoused too.
Two suitcases.
A storage locker full of art.
Winter is coming.
And we're still asking
why people sleep outside.
Maybe the question is simpler:
Why don't we house people?
