Is Trump’s “Fentanyl as a WMD” Executive Order a Setup for War and Crackdowns?

Is Trump’s “Fentanyl as a WMD” Executive Order a Setup for War and Crackdowns?

By Tina Winterlik (Zipolita)

What’s Happening?

Recent reports suggest that Donald Trump is preparing an Executive Order (EO) to declare illicit fentanyl a "Weapon of Mass Destruction" (WMD). This could have huge consequences, not just for drug policy, but for international relations, policing, and human rights.

According to sources, the draft EO has been circulating among top U.S. agencies, including Homeland Security, Defense, Justice, and State. The document reportedly states that fentanyl is a WMD under 50 U.S.C. Section 2902 and orders an aggressive government response.

Why Does This Matter?

On the surface, fighting fentanyl sounds good. But declaring it a WMD could be a backdoor for militarization, domestic crackdowns, and even invasions.

  • Pretext for Military Action

    • The U.S. could use this WMD designation to justify military operations in Mexico, Canada, or other countries linked to fentanyl production.
    • This follows the same pattern as the Iraq War, where WMDs were used as an excuse for invasion.
  • Harsher Laws & Police Crackdowns

    • Treating fentanyl as a WMD could expand policing, surveillance, and mass arrests inside the U.S.
    • This might mean more raids on marginalized communities, targeting unhoused people and addicts under "national security" laws.
  • Threat to Canada & Other Nations

    • The U.S. has long pressured Canada on border security and drug enforcement.
    • Could this be used as an excuse for U.S. intervention in Canadian affairs? Would Canada resist, or go along with it?

Haven’t We Seen This Before?

Yes! The U.S. government has a history of creating crises to justify war and repression.

  • Iraq War (2003): The Bush administration lied about WMDs to justify invading Iraq.
  • War on Drugs: Used as a cover for U.S. intervention in Latin America, harming millions.
  • Post-9/11 Patriot Act: Introduced mass surveillance and attacks on civil liberties.

Now, Trump (or any future leader) could use fentanyl to push for another wave of militarization.

What Can We Do?

This isn’t about ignoring the fentanyl crisis. It’s about stopping the government from using it as an excuse for war and repression.

  1. Spread Awareness – Mainstream media won’t tell the whole truth, so we have to.
  2. Question the Narrative – Why now? Who benefits?
  3. Support Resistance Movements – Activists in the U.S., Canada, and Latin America are already fighting back against militarization.
  4. Stay Vigilant – Watch for government overreach, new laws, and aggressive policies.

The fentanyl crisis should be treated as a public health issue, not an excuse for war. We’ve been lied to before. Let’s not fall for it again.

Could this be used to justify war or crackdowns? Start talking and organizing NOW!

Love Letter to the Youth: Warrior Up With Art

A Love Letter πŸ’Œto the Youth: Warrior Up With Art 🎨🎞️πŸŽΉπŸ–Œ️πŸ“·

To my beautiful child, to all the young people navigating this uncertain world,

I want to start by saying I love you❤️. I love you so much that my heart aches for the struggles you’ve already faced and the challenges that lie ahead. I have lived through my share of hardships, but I also had the privilege of witnessing and experiencing moments of true beauty, freedom, and connection—things I fear you may never get the chance to know in the same way.

You have already endured so much. You grew up in the shadow of a pandemic that stole time, connection, and safety. You witnessed fear take over, watched people turn against one another, saw the rise of racism and division. You have known the comforts of technology, the convenience of Uber, Starbucks, and streaming entertainment, but you've also faced the crushing weight of sky-high rents, student debt, and jobs that barely cover the cost of living.

And now, as if that weren’t enough, the world trembles once again. Wars rage on, the climate collapses, and the future feels uncertain. I had hoped that by sharing my love for travel, by showing you the beauty of Mexico, by documenting our journey, I could open a door to understanding—that I could show you a world of kindness, of people who love deeply despite hardships. But the cruelty of the world has only grown louder.

So, my message to you is this: Warrior Up. But not with hate. Not with violence. Warrior Up with Art.🎨🎞️πŸŽΉπŸ–Œ️πŸ“·πŸŒπŸ’ŒπŸ”₯✍️🀳

History has shown us that when people unite, when they sing, when they create, they are unstoppable. Look up the Singing Revolution—people who fought oppression with their voices. That is the kind of revolution we need. A revolution of art, of music, of truth.

But first, you must prepare. Clean yourself up if you need to. If you are lost in alcohol, in drugs, in despair, know that we need you awake. We need you strong. Learn how to survive. Know where to find water, how to build a fire, how to take care of one another. Not just for war, but for peace. For resilience.

The Indigenous Nations of this land have been warriors for generations, fighting for their survival, their culture, their truth. Take inspiration from them. Learn from them. Warrior Up like Thomas Builds-the-Fire in Smoke Signals—but do it with art, with stories, with courage.

I may not have much time left—maybe I’ll live to 108, maybe not. But I know that whatever happens, my greatest hope is that you, my child, and all the young people of this land, find a way to rise. Not just to fight back against the darkness, but to build something better in its place.

I love you. ❤️I believe in you. πŸ€—And I am with you, always.

One of Alberta’s biggest solar projects has been built in one of the most unlikely places—the heart of Canada’s Peace River oil sands. This summer the community of Little Buffalo launched the Piitapan Solar Project, a 20.8kW renewable energy installation that powers the health centre. The inspiring 80-panel solar project was developed in a bid to create more green jobs and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.

SOLAR IN THE TAR SANDS features Melina Laboucan-Massimo and community members of Lubicon Lake installing solar panels for their community health center. After decades of detrimental impacts from immense resource extraction and a recent massive oil spill in Lubicon territory, this community is showing the world and other First Nation communities that the shift to renewables is possible.
