U.S. Satellite Data Cut Threatens Hurricane Forecasting

🚨 URGENT WARNING / ADVERTENCIA URGENTE

U.S. Satellite Data Cut Threatens Hurricane Forecasting

Trump and DOGE just made everyone less safe — especially in Mexico and hurricane-prone regions.

🌀 What Happened / ¿Qué Pasó?

The U.S. Department of Defense has shut off public access to key satellite weather data (DMSP), effective June 30, 2025.
This decision, made under Trump’s DOGE policy, cuts off data that’s been essential for tracking hurricane intensity and rapid changes for over 40 years.

🌍 Who's Affected / ¿A Quién Afecta?

Everyone. But especially those in:

  • Mexico
  • Caribbean nations
  • Gulf Coast
  • Pacific coast regions
  • Central America

Forecasts may now be slower and less accurate. People will have less time to prepare.

✅ What You Can Do / ¿Qué Puedes Hacer?

1. 📲 Use Multiple Weather Apps / Usa Varias Apps de Clima

Recommended / Recomendadas:

  • Windy.com
  • Zoom Earth
  • NOAA Hurricane Tracker
  • Clima México

2. 📡 Follow Local Sources / Sigue Fuentes Locales

In Mexico:

  • CONAGUA
  • Protección Civil México
  • Noticias de radio y televisión confiables

3. 🧳 Make a Family Plan / Crea un Plan Familiar

  • Agua, comida, medicina, linternas, baterías
  • Conoce rutas de evacuación y refugios
  • Usa WhatsApp o Signal para compartir alertas

4. 🛠️ Demand Transparency / Exige Soluciones

  • Exige al gobierno que restaure los datos
  • Apoya la financiación de nuevos satélites
  • Exige liderazgo responsable con el clima

5. 🤝 Build Community / Fortalece Tu Comunidad

  • Comparte este mensaje
  • Ayuda a vecin@s mayores o personas sin acceso a internet
  • Organiza reuniones comunitarias sobre preparación

✊ Final Words / Palabras Finales

This decision puts millions of lives at risk. Climate change is making hurricanes stronger and faster, and now we have less warning. But we can resist.

Let’s share, prepare, and protect each other.
Compartamos, preparemos y protejámonos mutuamente.

Why is Canada backing oil & What's Fort McMoney?

We really are going to have to stand together and unite against the oil because unbelievably some people think it's a good thing. It makes me sick to my stomach reading this post by Margaret Wente
 http://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/industry-news/energy-and-resources/oil-sands-debate-shouldnt-be-framed-as-good-vs-evil/article15580843/

"Well, oil is not the devil. In fact, oil and other energy resources are the salvation for billions of impoverished people in developing nations. You can’t have human development without energy. "

Are you kidding me lady, how do you think they got impoverished. It's when the oil companies go in they destroy the peoples lives and make them impoverished.  Just shaking my head here.

This is what we should be asking?

Why is Canada backing oil over other industries?

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/industry-news/energy-and-resources/why-is-canada-backing-the-energy-industry-at-the-expense-of-others/article15580839/

We are going to need to defend climate and fight for our lives (in a peaceful way, of course) but it's not going to be easy, even though it is so obvious. Greed is going to give us one hell of a run for it's money. :(

And What is Fort McMoney?- nothing happened when I tried but hopefully later. All I saw was a big black screen so I thought maybe it was a hoax...Apparently it's real.

 http://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/industry-news/energy-and-resources/what-is-fort-mcmoney/article15583598

"What’s the scene that greets you when you boot up Fort McMoney, which is a virtual world that went live online Monday. There are many places to see and even more characters you can interrogate and interview. Scores will be kept and leaderboards maintained to reflect actions taken by visitors: the more curious you are the more points you collect. This world is also episodic, new places and people will arrive every week over the next four, and visitors can vote for changes they’d like to see based on what they experience inside Fort McMoney Read More here"

I am super interested in this interactive documentary as it relates to the program I am taking at Emily Carr- Interaction Design Essentials  and more specifically will be very helpful as it pertains to a certain project I'm currently preparing that relates to Vancouver and something called Urbanarium.

I am curious to see how it all plays out and I am sure many others will be watching to see what can be learned from such a project.

Here's one more article I found related to this.
This Jennifer Grant makes it sounds like she's for the environment but she not....I can't figure out whose side she's on?

Who Lives in Harmony with the Planet?

Blog post by Tina Winterlik © 2011

Survival International has produced their own Television Ad and here is a sneak peak. I would love to go to the jungle and learn from them these people who know how to live in harmony with the jungle and Mother Earth.

I would especially love it if my child could go.

I know she would love it, she loves nature so much. The thing is right now the indigenous people are in terrible trouble fighting for survival from the outside world. Instead of learning from them we only continue with our lives turning our backs on there great wisdom and knowledge.

But let's step back and think for a moment...What if, ....what if for some bizarre reason...we have no electricity, what if we have no access to phones, computers, banking....nothing. How will we survive. How will our children survive. This is a serious question...ridiculous one may say...but you don't know, the earth is a pretty screwed up place and we don't know what the future holds.

Doesn't it make sense to stop what we are doing and value these people. Value their incredible knowledge and learn how to live in harmony with the earth. Something has to change because something is going to happen. Mother Earth is getting sicker all the time and for all we know a massive solar flare could wipe out our electricity. Here's a thought, how did you feel the last time the lights went out. What would you do if there was no more electricity. Pretty scary huh!!

These people live with no electricity and they are happy! We need to try to be more like them...we have a choice, what choice will we make?

http://tinawinterlik.blogspot.com

HELP SAVE THE AMAZON! We need your help! Please!!
Listen to this video. It's so honest and to the point. Please I implore everyone to do their part. Look at this world, its such a mess. With storms, tornados, forest fires, flooding, it's obviously linked to Climate Change and to oil. We need to stop using it. We need to use alternatives. We need to stop polluting innocent peoples homes and lifestyles and take RESPONSIBILITY for OUR  actions. Chervon NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY and fix what they have broken. People are dying. The Amazon is dying. What's next?

We can do our part. Sign the petition and then seriously make efforts to "green up" their lives. Many of us have lived pretty good lives, but what about our children. What about their future? We need to ACT NOW! so that OUR children have a future, a good future, a healthy future. WE NEED THE AMAZON!

Kogi Mamas "Message - From the Heart of the World!"

Blog post by Tina Winterlik © 2011

http://tinawinterlik.blogspot.com

I saw this film like 15 years ago, I remember watching with my mom and it impacted me deeply. Basically the message is this : If it's drying out up here, what will happen down there. It was a message from "Little Brother". We are big brother, were basically naughty and have gone off to discover the world but have been destroying with mines, pollution and ignorance. It's a Fabulous Movie, I just found this today so will try to get a copy.

The film ‘From the Heart of the World - the Elder Brothers’ Warning

It is undoubtedly Ereira’s documentary which has enabled the Trust to engender the interest and support it has. Initially shown in 1990, it was subsequently presented at the Rio Summit in June 1992, has been given prime time in the USA on a number of occasions and been presented on other national TV networks in Europe and elsewhere. At 90 minutes long, an unusual length for any documentary, it was prepared with a lot of input and editorial control from the Mamas. There is a specially commissioned orchestral score on the soundtrack and it makes use of filmic techniques (elaborate fade-ins and superimpositions etc) that are not normally associated with such documentaries. Actors, including Donald Pleasance and Jack Shepperd, are used to give voice to Kogi speech and narration is by Alan Ereira. There are interviews with experts such as Martin von Hildebrand (then Director of Indian Affairs), Alvaro Soto (Director of Excavations for ‘The Lost City’), and Frankie Rey, the tomb-robber who first found the ‘Lost City’.

Kogi Message

Meet the Tairona

The first thing to say about meeting the Tairona is -
PLEASE DON’T TRY.

These people are the conscientious guardians of a tradition, philosophy and form of thought that has been pretty effectively destroyed everywhere else in the world by the advance of our own culture. The most isolated of the Tairona communities, the Kogi, know very well that isolation is their only possibility for survival.
