Wow, this is a brilliant idea. So cool these guys are reaching out and bringing awareness to this huge issue while at the same time inspiring youth and giving them hope that they can do something about it.

The Jellyfish Project is an educational initiative focused on generating awareness among youth about the declining health of our world's oceans and our environment at large. Through the power of music and live performance, students are engaged into the environmental conversation and are given information on how to become active participants in the sustainability movement.

About this Video

The Gwaii Haanas Legacy Pole is a 42-foot monumental pole commissioned by a unique cooperative management board made up of equal members of the Haida Nation and the Government of Canada. Known as the Archipelago Management Board (AMB), the body is renowned throughout the world as a model for cultural and natural resource governance. The pole is being carved to honour the 20th anniversary of the Gwaii Haanas Agreement, the cornerstone of a groundbreaking relationship that protects the natural and marine resources.

The Gwaii Haanas Legacy Pole will be raised at Hlk'yah GawGa (Windy Bay) on Lyell Island on Aug. 15, 2013. This will be the first pole raised in the Gwaii Haanas region in over 130 years, building a connection with the historic poles still standing in the villages of SGang Gwaay (also a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and Skedans (K'uuna Llnagaay).

Great to hear schools are involved.

"We have a few new programs like “Kids Growing Pumpkins” where elementary school kids are targeting to grow 20,000 lbs. of pumpkins to give away to needy families. Our farm goal is 100,000 lbs of vegetables to charity which I really see as an achievable goal. Thus far, the crops slated for charity will be corn, potatoes, cabbage, carrots, turnips, beets, several varieties of squash as well as whatever else we can grow with further funding. With the great support from the aforementioned"

This made me so sad. I didn't hear about it until now. This video really brings it home. It's so sad that this amazing man accomplished so much by leading those kids on a massive journey and now he's gone. I really feel so deeply for the kids, they must be devastated.

It makes me so angry when I think back about how Harper wasn't even there to greet  Isaac and those kids. It should have been such an amazing moment for the nation,...but it was overshadowed by Harper's panda bear photo shoot. http://tinawinterlik.blogspot.ca/2013/03/nishiyuu-quest-for-unity-but-harper.html

Still they didn't need his approval or for him to even be there as they really did accomplish so much. R.I. P. Isaac Kawapit. God bless you on your journey.

Read more about Isaac here http://media.knet.ca/node/22530

Nishiyuu's 'White Wizard' walked 1,500 km for First Nations issues

"Isaac Kawapit was a humble man who led a hard life in a remote Cree community near the shores of Hudson Bay in Northern Quebec, living largely off the land and relying on his extraordinary skills as a hunter.

But at the age of 46 (though he was also said to be 47 or 49), Mr. Kawapit did something remarkable. In January, he led a group of six young men, aged 17 to 22, on a frigid 1,500-kilometre walk from Whapmagoostui to Ottawa to raise awareness of the problems facing Canada's First Nations.
By the time they reached the capital, there were 300 walkers and thousands of supporters waiting to greet them and the Journey of the Nishiyuu had become a galvanizing event for young native people across the country.

Mr. Kawapit, the man the walkers called their spiritual leader and their "White Wizard," was found dead in his northern community on Saturday morning. His body was lying outdoors just a short distance from where his mother's house once stood.

Southern Resident Killer Whales: Losing Love (HD)

About the Video- by MEG MCDONALD
From her YouTube page

Published on Jul 23, 2013
The endangered Southern Resident Killer Whales searched for salmon next to sunny San Juan Island on July 10, 2013. Listen to their powerful blows while you watch these wild killer whales swim close together in their tightly bonded family groups! The exuberant cartwheels and breaches by these orcas were filmed next to Vashon Island on December 3, 2012.

These wild killer whales are free to roam where they please, unlike the ones in marine circuses like SeaWorld, and they never leave their mothers. They remain in closely bonded matrilineal family groups for their entire lives, which can last (in the wild) over 100 years for females and over 60 years for males. They swim up to 100 miles per day.

These orcas are endangered because SeaWorld got its start decades ago by capturing and selling one-third of them—specifically targeting the babies, taking an entire generation, and killing many of their mothers, who were trying desperately to protect them. (All but one of those young captured orcas died in SeaWorld's barren concrete tanks within a few years. The sole survivor is Lolita at the Miami Seaquarium, imprisoned alone for 43 years in a tiny bathtub-sized tank.) The population of the Southern Resident Killer Whales has never recovered to its precapture numbers, and these beloved killer whales of Puget Sound remain endangered.

Please visit my beautiful photography website http://www.wildnwbeauty.com and my Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/WildNWBeauty for incredible high-resolution photographs of killer whales and other wildlife, as well as the majestic wild scenery of the Pacific Northwest.

The entrancing music in this video is "Losing Love" by Dexter Britain: http://dexterbritain.co.uk.

Thanks to the Salish Sea Association of Marine Naturalists for helping me compile many marine biologists' recommendations for how we can help these endangered killer whales survive!

We had the greatest time today at Bard on the Beach. I must admit we are truly blessed and that my sister and her husband treated us to the play as a gift for Angel's birthday.

I was a little nervous, seeing how it's Angel's first Shakespearean play and thought perhaps she might get bored. Completely opposite, at intermission she kept commenting on how funny it was. And it was!!

I'm not going to spoil it in case you get to go, but you should try, it really was special. Lots of laughs and surprises too!

It made me really emotional, we were commenting after about it, mentioning that it must be because it's live. They were really good actors too, obviously!

My favourite actor was Todd Thomson, he's really yummy....er.. excuse me...I mean very handsome!! :DD  They are all terrific!

Well I hope you get to seen it. Here's some links for you.

Since the verdict was announced on the Trayvon Martin/ George Zimmerman trial http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shooting_of_Trayvon_Martin I haven't said much.

I wanted to let my emotions calm and try to step back and not make the situation worse by adding to the pain, frustration, anger and anxiety that so many people were expressing.

This song has been running thru my head...and I just want to send it out to all of you...it's for everyone that hurting... "To make you feel my love"

When the rain
Is blowing in your face
And the whole world
Is on your case
I could offer you
A warm embrace
To make you feel my love

When the evening shadows
And the stars appear
And there is no - one there
To dry your tears
I could hold you
For a million years
To make you feel my love

I know you
Haven't made
Your mind up yet
But I would never
Do you wrong
I've known it
From the moment
That we met
No doubt in my mind
Where you belong

I'd go hungry
I'd go black and blue and
I'd go crawling
Down the avenue
You Know there's nothing
That I wouldn't do
To make you feel my love

The storms are raging
On the rolling sea
And on the highway of regret
The winds of change
Are blowing wild and free
You ain't seen nothing
Like me yet

I could make you happy
Make your dreams come true
Nothing that I wouldn't do
Go to the ends
Of the Earth for you
To make you feel my love, To make you feel my love

But now we need to address this whole issue, and thankfully there are people working on it. This film Fruitvale Station is working on it, but we need a lot more. Please read this article, it's very well written.

Stand Your Ground, Be A Man

Written by Imran Siddiquee on Jul 17, 2013"The final shot of Fruitvale Station – Ryan Coogler’s remarkable new film based on the 2009 shooting of Oscar Grant by a Bay Area Rapid Transit officer – is of Grant’s daughter, Tatiana."
http://www.missrepresentation.org/masculinity/stand-your-ground-be-a-man/

and finally this video it's on Kickstarter, this project needs to be made. Please share and help so that we can have better future for our boys, our men and for a daughters...I worry,.. I worry for my daughter, what kind of boys will she meet...what kind of men will she meet. Already we have seen disturbing things in school and with the media and culture as it is, it will not improve unless we all work together to change it.

The Mask You Live In by Jennifer Siebel Newsom

From the director of Miss Representation - an exploration of American masculinity.

Let's hear it for the boys...Let's raise boys that we can be proud of.  It takes a village...make sure you tell the boys and men in your life you love them and help them be strong empathic, loving men, give the direction the best you can, we all need to do this the best we can.

Please watch these two powerful videos, everything makes so much sense ...we have to keep focusing on the positive..meditate ..be the lightworkers...we have to chose LOVE NOT FEAR!! Make that your mantra!

Wow, this amazing story was shared on my Search Grads Group FB page. Check out these videos and info, it's so inspirational what this group of citizens are accomplishing.

Free Space [  ]   http://freespace.io/

From Co-exist- Ariel Schwartz

"Walk into the mural-covered 14,000-square-foot space in San Francisco’s Central Market district and you’ll see a flurry of seemingly organized activity: people manning desks in the front, a day-by-day schedule scribbled in chalk on the wall, someone sweeping the floor, a family examining the makings of a slide...."

What started as a one day project turned into a month long project and then amazingly they have now got the space for another month http://freespace.io/2013/07/04/networking-freespace-part-2/  using Indiegogo http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/freespace-a-temporary-space-for-lasting-change--5

It's just so inspirational, I really love what all these talents artists and energetic spirits have accomplished. Truly wonderful and I hope we can see it replicated over and over.

On there Indiegogo project they wrote:

What We’ve Achieved
[ San Francisco, California ]
In order to demonstrate how communication, collaboration and innovation flourish when people have a space to come together, we obtained a lease for a 14,000 sq ft building for $1 for the month of June in the heart of San Francisco’s dynamic SOMA district.

In just one week the building was transformed. Artists removed traces of urban decay by covering the walls with murals and the parking lot has been converted into a garden and food forest, attracting the admiration of passers-by. Read more

I especially love the perks they offered
Their perks were super ingenious. I tried Indiegogo alone..not the easiest but one of the toughest things was coming up with really great perks. I just love these!

Please read and watch the videos and follow up on this, because if they can accomplish this there, it can be done anywhere....because I know there are super amazing talented generous people everywhere and this is the kind of encouragement our kids and communities need to show them we can make this world a better place..

So I was on Facebook this morning and on Global they posted this question yesterday but the conversation was still going?

Your thoughts: Do gun range ads on Canada Line have violent overtones? - http://ow.ly/mqfhH
Now I don't want to focus on that, as that was that conversation but I did post a couple of videos that I asked people to watch. And there is something VERY interesting that came to mind when I re-watched this video.  Starting at  7:10 in the video.

Please watch and think very carefully as he talks about the "collective negativity" and "collective consciousness".  There has been so much frustration and anger over the Tar Sands and the Pipeline.

Did this collective negative energy cause the flooding?  Listen to what Deepak Chopra says here, it really made me think.

Here's the second one.

Brazilian President backs massive protests, says demands are legitimate

June 17/2013
Tonight in Brazil the people are rising up and speaking out. I've been asked to share this as the mainstream media is not covering it. Let's get the word out there and help the people of Brazil have a better future.

Another friend shared this:
A personal note: I'm following the events in Brazil with great interest. I love Brazil, I have family and friends there, and I am a big supporter of the Partido dos Trabalhadores (PT), which has pulled millions out of poverty and has made Brazil a major global player. However, one of the main reasons I no longer live there is because the cost of living became overwhelming. Brazil has one of the highest tax rates in the world, yet it is poorly administered. Services like public transportation cost as much as they do in North America or Europe and many basic products like food, clothing, etc. cost as much as 40% more than they do in the U.S. Yet the minimum wage is barely over U.S. $300 dollars a month, so there is a huge discrepancy between income and the cost of living. While Brazil's economy has grown astronomically on a macro level, the people are squeezed by rising inflation, outrageously high prices and poor infrastructure. My thoughts and hopes are with you, o povo brasileiro.

Had an awesome time at the 38th Annual Pacific Rim Kite Festival in Vanier Park, Kitsilano in Vancouver BC today. Next year you should make a plan to go. Always alot of fun for everyone of all ages.

The Teddy Bear Drop is alway HUGE FUN!! They put the Teddy Bear way up high on a Big Kite and then let him or her go...s/he is wearing a parachute and a child is waiting below. The kids run and catch the bear and get to keep it.

It's all graciously donated by the BC Kitefliers Assocation. You can visit their website here.  http://bcka.bc.ca/38th-annual-pacific-rim-kite-festival/

Let's Grow a Food Forest like Seattle

When I was a little girl, my mom and dad had a little hobby farm out in Surrey. My dad was raised on a farm and my mom's mom (my grandma) had an awesome green thumb so between the two they made an wonderful team.

We had rabbits, chickens, ducks, a big pig that had piglets, there was a garden with vegetables and there fruit trees of cherry, plum, peach and apple...maybe more I was little and don't remember it all.

Now we all know about the GMO's and Monsanto and the cost of food is outrageous and trying to buy organic is expensive...

But we live in a big city and there is lots of park land and schoolyards. It's time to convert some of that space and grow gardens and a food forest.

Seattle just came up with this idea and they are going to try...so why don't we. I have seen lots of community gardens, but everyone has their own little plot and no one is allowed to touch it.  If we just think on a higher level, sort of like when the blackberries are in season...there's plenty for everyone.

My dream is that we start Edible Schoolyards and each day kids go into the garden or food forest and work, gather, harvest, cook, store food so that we all have this knowledge, that we all share and we all have enough healthy food to eat....the way God intended.

Please share this widely, talk to your school, teachers, principal, schoolboard, the mayor, Vancouver Parks board, who can we get on board to start making this all a reality.

Seattle's Food Forest

"Forget meadows. The city’s new park will be filled with edible plants, and everything from pears to herbs will be free for the taking.

Seattle’s vision of an urban food oasis is going forward. A seven-acre plot of land in the city’s Beacon Hill neighborhood will be planted with hundreds of different kinds of edibles: walnut and chestnut trees; blueberry and raspberry bushes; fruit trees, including apples and pears; exotics like pineapple, yuzu citrus, guava, persimmons, honeyberries, and lingonberries; herbs; and more. All will be available for public plucking to anyone who wanders into the city’s first food forest. Read more here  "http://www.expressionoftruth.com/2013/06/its-not-fairytale-seattle-to-build.html

I have seen some beautiful community gardens but we need something on a much larger scale that can really be shared with the community.

Here's a few videos of community gardens we've visited and gardens where we went Wwoofing last year.
