Scientists Cure Cancer- No One Notices

Blog post by Tina Winterlik © 2011

http://tinawinterlik.blogspot.com

Scientists Cure Cancer
So apparently there was a huge advancement or discovery the other week but no one really took notice. Why? Well because the big pharmecueticals obviously don't want the cure to be found because then we won't need all those medicines they provide. So no one will fund the studies so the research won't get done.

This isn't the first time I've heard this. The government only has so much money and they won't fund these studies and the only one with the really big budget for this are the pharmecueticals. So in the article I read only the studies that show a certain drug is helping, well that's the one that gets funded, because they know they'll make money off it.

What can we do about this. Tweet it! Facebook it! Share it! Talk to people about it! This is HUGE!! Don't let it be suppressed and forgotten. Who cares if the TV & Media don't grab it, LOOK WHAT THE TWITTER WORLD CAN DO!! Please Do Something!!

Scientist Cure Cancer but no one takes notice
http://hubpages.com/hub/Scientists_cure_cancer__but_no_one_takes_notice

Canadian researchers find a simple cure for cancer, but major pharmaceutical companies are not interested.

Researchers at the University of Alberta, in Edmonton, Canada have cured cancer last week, yet there is a little ripple in the news or in TV.

It is a simple technique using very basic drug. The method employs dichloroacetate, which is currently used to treat metabolic disorders.

So, there is no concern of side effects or about their long term effects.

This drug doesn’t require a patent, so anyone can employ it widely and cheaply compared to the costly cancer drugs produced by major pharmaceutical companies. Read More Here

School of Life-Ken Robinson

Wow! This is amazing. I just love what he says about creativity, math, talent, spirituality. He really is brilliant. I really enjoyed this, it's 1hr long, but definitely worth. Below is his video on Changing the Educational Paradigms and it's also fabulous

Ken Robinson on Passion from The School of Life on Vimeo

by the School of Life

Ken Robinson believes that everyone is born with extraordinary capability. So what happens to all that talent as we bump through life, getting by, but never realizing our true potential?

For most of us the problem isn’t that we aim too high and fail - it’s just the opposite - we aim too low and succeed.

We need to find that magic spot where our natural talent meets our personal passion. This means we need to know ourselves better. Whilst we content ourselves with doing what we’re competent at, but don’t truly love, we’ll never excel. And, according to Ken, finding purpose in our work is essentially to knowing who we really are.

Get ready to unleash your inner fervor as Ken takes to our pulpit to inspire you to follow your passion.

Sir Ken Robinson is a leader in the development of creativity, innovation and human resources, working with governments and the world’s leading cultural organizations.

Born in Liverpool, he was Director of The Arts Project (1985-89), and is Emeritus Professor of Education at the University of Warwick. He was knighted in 2003 for his contribution to education and the arts. Recent publications include Out of Our Minds: Learning to be Creative (2001) and The Element: How Finding Your Passion Changes Everything (2009).

Heavy Metals in Makeup

Blog post by Tina Winterlik © 2011

http://tinawinterlik.blogspot.com

So my kid is visiting with friends and I know I should be cleaning the house while I have the chance, but this  is really important and I want to share it.

Along time ago....well about 16 years ago, I used to work graveyards, I remember listening to the radio and there was a man on there and Wow!! he was talking some interesting sh_t!

Seriously he was saying that there were all these toxins in makeup and that they were allowed because the were "grandfathered in." He explained that that meant because they were there before the new rules were made they could stay! ...What?

Heavy Metals Fact Sheet
Anyways, he claimed that the reason that so many women get face cancer was from the makeup. He also said that the millions of dollars spent on advertising campaigns in Vogue and other magazines is so sad when that money could be use for research on how to create healthy makeup.  So guess what...I sort of stopped wearing makeup.

It happened sort of gradually, the first to go was foundation, because that to me was like putting poison all over my face for sure. Then eye shadow, I never did wear much lipstick and it was usually just pink, not the heavy reds that look so cool. Then I guess the final thing to go was mascara. That was more because it just started to bug my eyes, they were always itchy and I couldn't wear contacts with it.

So it is Super Rare that you would ever see me with makeup. I like it, I think it's pretty, but it's not me. Not anymore, but I'll be 50 next year and that could be why, I guess I've out grown it, and I'm just into natural stuff. Same with nail polish. For many years I have said that your nails can not breath when you put nail polish on and I don't even like for my child to wear it. It's a once in a blue moon treat.

So now here is this big report confirming it all. I saw something a while ago on a TV program where they tested the whole family for Heavy Metals and it was the teenage girl with the highest levels which shocked me at the time but this would make perfect sense.

Anyways, check it out, make your own decision but the biggy is that all this crap ends up in the water and ground, so it's polluting us through the whole process.

Let me know what you think about all this, I'm interested.

Miss Representation : Media- The Message & The Messenger

Blog post by Tina Winterlik © 2011

http://tinawinterlik.blogspot.com

Newest Miss Representation Trailer (2011 Sundance Film Festival Official Selection)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Wow, watched this Powerful Trailer for the movie Miss Representation. It's so right on and exactly what I've been talking about for so long. There's hope for us yet, but we have a long road ahead of us.
I can only pray my child has a better life than mine when it comes to equality. Praying that Social Media is a big part of the solution and that we can all be Social Media Super Heroes and do our part to spread the word and stand up for ourselves and our children.
Miss Representation
Its so weird, because when I was young I thought we had come along way and I believed that I was equal. But time crept on and things happened that really opened my eyes.  I realized then how very much it is a man's world and that we are not treated equals, as much as I would like to believe otherwise.
In fact I think things have gotten much worse in the last 20 with the way media has evolved, with crazy videos pushing the limits on sexual images and films and TV focusing so much on violence and much of it violence against women.
While I've tried hard to not accept this fact, that there are such huge gaps in gender equality, and wanted to believe otherwise, I am forced to concede to the fact, that while "we've come along way, baby," in the bigger scheme of things, at this time, we haven't come that far after all.
So Come On Everyone, Men, Women, Children- Let's All Work together and correct this. Let's have a higher respect of Everyone. Treat others as we would like to be treated and let's hold the Media- "especially Film & Television & the Music Industry" - accountable. Let's do our best to educate our children so that we can turn things around. We can do anything we want IF we put our minds and hearts into it.
Miss Representation explores women’s under-representation in positions of power and influence and challenges the limited and often disparaging portrayals of women in media.
Writer/Director Jennifer Siebel Newsom brings together some of America’s most influential thought leaders in politics, news, entertainment, and academia, including Condoleezza Rice, Katie Couric, Geena Davis, Lisa Ling, Marissa Mayer, Cory Booker, Jean Kilbourne, and Jackson Katz, to give us an inside look at the media’s messaging.
As one of the most persuasive and pervasive forces of communication in our culture, mainstream media is educating yet another generation that a woman’s primary value lies in her youth, beauty and sexuality—not in her capacity as a leader.
Miss Representation premiered Saturday January 22 in the documentary competition at Sundance Film Festival and then traveled to the Athena Film Festival in New York City February 12.  To learn more, visit http://www.missrepresentation.org
Do Schools Destroy Creativity?
Blog post by Tina Winterlik © 2011
http://tinawinterlik.blogspot.com
Do Schools Destroy Creativity?  YES. Some schools do. Some teachers do. That was my experience. I'm homeschooling my child but at some point she may have to or want to go to school. I can only pray that she doesn't have the experience so many people do.  I just Love this first video with Ken Robinson and what he says about the Beatles.
Here's my child after getting a time out on the first full day of grade one.
We have been home schooling since then.
Let me say there were many other factors on why we decided to homeschool, and she did do kindergarten and we enjoyed the first 2 of the 4 teachers she had that year.
We do classes but they are not in a school setting.
Here's a great article that addresses the student debt issues.
Jack Richardson -Passes away May 13th 2011
Blog post by Tina Winterlik © 2011
http://tinawinterlik.blogspot.com
Update: Posted this late last night, this morning it's cofirmed Jack Richardson has passed away.
The twitter world is claiming that Jack Richardson who produced the records of the Guess Who's- American Woman, Bob Segars-Night Move, and Alice Coopers - Love it to death, just to name a few, has passed away at the age of 81.
I'm not sure if this is true as I can't find anything to prove it, but I created this post about Jack anyways.
If it is true it is really sad because he really brought us some fabulous music, music that really imprinted my youth.
I remember the bottle cap promo for the Guess Who, we used to collect them in the restaurant I grew up in and we would listen to all those songs on 8 track tapes. Yes, it brings back lots of memories.
On thing I'll say for his age, he sure looks awesome for someone who was 79, check out the video at the bottom of this post. Many refer to him as a legend. I agree!
Check out his bio here on Wikipedia.
Jack Richardson, CM(born 23 July 1929[1] - died 13 May 2011)is a Juno Award-nominated Canadian record producer and Order of Canada recipient.[2]
He is perhaps best known for producing the biggest hit records from The Guess Who from 1969 - 1975. He was an educator at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario in the Music Industry Arts program, as well as at the Harris Institute for the Arts in Toronto, Ontario in the Producing and Engineering Program (PEP).
The Juno Award for "Producer of the Year" has been named in Richardson's honour since 2002.
Richardson was born in Toronto, Ontario, and had early musical training playing in various school bands. By 1949 he was playing professionally in "The Westernaires" [1] who had a regular radio program.
In 1958 he was working as an account executive for McCann-Erickson,[1] a firm that produced a regular television program and in the mid 1960s Richardson and three others from this firm decided to form their own production company, Nimbus 9.
Initially, audio recording was only one aspect of Nimbus 9, which was formed to provide multi-media production to their clients. Within a brief period of time, however, audio recording became the single focus of operations.
In 1968, Richardson approached the Canadian branch of the Coca-Cola company with an idea to produce and market a long-playing album through a type of bottle-cap reimbursement scheme. Read More Here
On Saturday October 25, 2008 five panels of studio owners, managers, designers, producers and engineers, live sound company owners, engineers, and gear designers who were or are active in the Toronto pro audio world assembled together at Ryerson's Eaton Theatre to discuss the motivations, the challenges, and developments in studio recording and live mixing technologies, practices and equipment/facility designs with a view to what made Toronto unique.
The conference included the taping of a video historical documentary, with short interviews of the many attendees who were involved in the AES and the Toronto music industry over the past forty years.
The following is an excerpt from that DVD, featuring Jack Richardson (Nimbus Nine, Fanshawe College).
My Film for Possible Futures Film Contest is Up
Blog post by Tina Winterlik © 2011
http://tinawinterlik.blogspot.com
Yay! It's up. This was a lot harder than I thought. I procrastinated a long time trying to think of how to create something worthy. I have only looked at one other, but it looked really good.
I am so thrilled to participate and learn and be inspired by these films. This contest is so SPECIAL. Prepare yourself to be amazed. Great and wonderful things are about to happen. I CAN feel it. I am so EXCITED
I was having a bit of a blue day. I decided we need some fresh air and we went for a long walk in the cold rain and had come in to snuggle in with hot chocolate, and I was watching these other great videos from a blogpost I did the other day, when I remembered they were posting the videos for the Possible Futures Contest. I am so thrilled to see my film here. I hope you'll check it out and the other great films there. Good luck everyone.
