Toast the Coast Before the Coast is Toast!!!

We were very privileged to attend the

"Toast the Coast Before the Coast is Toast!!!"

Beautiful how things fall into place. We couldn't stay long but we were very fortunate speak briefly with Takaiya Blaney  http://www.takaiyablaney.com/

She was just sitting on the bridge as we arrived.

I got all shy, she looked so beautiful, her and her friend in their regalia, I should have asked for a photo but I failed. :(

Here is the one I took. Ta'kaiya is sitting with back to us, with long braid. She is so wise. You can hear her speak here.

Today's event was called Toast the Coast Before the Coast is Toast and it runs from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. It's being held to raise awareness about the ecological danger of new pipelines and the sharp increase in tanker traffic that will occur if they're ever built.

"Shell is right now moving its Arctic fleet into position to begin drilling for oil in Alaska's ice-covered waters—oil they want to eventually ship in super-tankers South along the coast," the Toast the Coast web page states.

One of the speakers will be Oscar-winning actor Jane Fonda, who's been a vociferous critic of Shell's plans.

Toast the Coast will also showcase First Nations artist Roy Henry Vickers' large piece of art depicting a salmon. It's a reflection of the important role that indigenous people are playing in the fight to save the planet.

Here are a few photos of the Jane Fonda- I couldn't believe she was actually here and I was videoing.

Her speech was passionate and totally right on. We need everyone we can to speak out and I so grateful she has joined the cause. Save Our Coast- or as they have stated  Toast the Coast Before the Coast is Toast!!!

Residential Schools- Cultural Genocide and Assimilation

Here is the acknowledgement about the horrible evil things that happened in the Residential schools in Canada.  Makes me sick, sad and angry. How could people treat them like that? How could they treat children like that? It's so hard to believe that is why people denied it but now it's out and people must acknowledge this disgusting dark truth about Canada.

Sadly many people still deny this sad history. I pray there will be healing but it will take many many generations and we will have to all work together. It can happen, if we all work together for the environment and for the greater good of all people but Mother Earth comes first and that's in the soul of every indigenous soul.

If we can all love each other and treat each other with love and respect and educate each other, have deep empathy for each other. Hopefully the healing can start and continue but I haven't seen much healing...not on the DTES or on the Highway of Tears... it's not like this isn't all related and many other sad, dreadful events that I won't mention at the moment.

It's going to take a lot of love, education, healing and time.

Think on this please
From Facebook - Meanwhile in Canada
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Meanwhile-in-Canada/251089648271407

"Imagine being taken from your parents at five years old and being beaten for speaking the only language you know. Imagine being subjected to terrible abuse and made to feel ashamed because your culture was different. Imagine being a parent and being threatened with jail if you didn't hand over your children to the system. Imagine being cut off from your children for ten years. What would that do to your heart and soul? How would that affect your family?"

"As Canadians, we need to come together in the spirit of human understanding and friendship and work side by side to heal the suffering caused and to create opportunities for real hope and a fair, equal chance at a healthy, prosperous future that respects cultural differences.

Let us all collectively commit to genuine change in our relations with the first peoples of this country. If we do this with the spirit of justice, respectful dialogue and a commitment to meaningful action then reconciliation and healing is absolutely possible."

RIP Nash and Alicia Nash- Beautiful Minds, Beautiful People!

May 23, 2015, Nash and his wife, Alicia de Lardé Nash, were killed as the result of a motor vehicle collision

Such very sad news today. I cried when I watched this video now, not sure why it touched me so. He really did have a BEAUTIFUL MIND and she was a wonderful compassionate understanding soul to have loved and care for this man and the issues that he endured.

John Forbes Nash Jr., a mathematical genius whose struggle with schizophrenia was chronicled in the 2001 movie "A Beautiful Mind," has died along with his wife in a car crash on the New Jersey Turnpike. He was 86.

Nash and Alicia Nash, 82, of Princeton Township, were killed in a taxi crash Saturday, state police said. A colleague who had received an award with Nash in Norway earlier in the week said they had just flown home and the couple had taken a cab home from the airport. https://ca.news.yahoo.com/newsalert-nobel-prize-winning-mathematician-john-nash-killed-150203327.html

From Wikipedia
In 1959, Nash began showing clear signs of mental illness, and spent several years at psychiatric hospitals being treated for paranoid schizophrenia. After 1970, his condition slowly improved, allowing him to return to academic work by the mid-1980s.[1] His struggles with his illness and his recovery became the basis for Sylvia Nasar's biography, A Beautiful Mind, as well as a film of the same name starring Russell Crowe  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Forbes_Nash,_Jr.

At 1:25 in this clip I start to cry like a baby!! Beautiful Movie, Beautiful Mind! Beautiful People!

R.I.P Mr. and Mrs. Nash

A Beautiful Mind- Movie- Wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Beautiful_Mind_%28film%29

Alicia Nash- http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/amex/nash/peopleevents/p_anash.html
After three years of familial turmoil, Alicia filed for divorce, something that the Hollywood version of Nash's life left out. With the help of her mother, Alicia raised their son John on her own. Later he, too, turned out to have schizophrenia. In 1970 a decade after the divorce and with her ex-husband struggling just to survive, Alicia took him into her home not as a husband but as what she called her " boarder."
%"They say that a lot of people are left on the back wards of mental institutions," says Alicia, speaking of her decision to take Nash in. "And somehow their few chances to get out go by and they just end up there. So, that was one of the reasons I said, 'Well, I can put you up.' "

"If she hadn' t taken him in, he would have wound up on the streets," believes Nasar. "He had no income. He had no home.

I think that Alicia saved his life." In the 1980s, John slowly emerged from schizophrenia and in 1994 he received a Nobel Prize in Economics for the game theory work he completed as a young man. In the spring of 2001, Alicia and John were remarried, 38 years after their divorce

Who will Save the Paiges? WTF when will it Change!

Poor Poor Paige! This is such a sad and disturbing story but doesn't surprise me. The DTES is plagued with issues like this. Much of it stems back to social assistance and lack of funding and services. The system treats people like dirt. And you happen to be aboriginal then it's often less than dirt because you are stigmatized. Somehow people think it's their fault. Enough already!!

There is no one there for the people. I can't even begin to tell you the issues I faced when I was on assistance and to be a child born to an addicted mother trying to survive anyway she could it's just heartbreaking.

You have to hear this video. We NEED CHANGE NOW!!

As she says when are we going to have a proper program to help them not have to resort to survival sex and drug debt collections. WAKE UP PEOPLE!! WAKE UP BC!

http://globalnews.ca/news/1998756/b-c-aboriginal-teen-failed-by-system-report/

“The professional indifference that plagued her life — that prevented her from receiving a minimal standard of child protection, a minimal standard of health care and even a minimal standard of education services — must be the product of a system that has effectively discounted the value of girls like her.”

"Turpel-Lafond said the investigation is among the most troubling her office has ever conducted, but it is sadly not unique. She estimates there are about 100 to 150 aboriginal youth similar to Paige in the Downtown Eastside. "

I feel so sad for Paige, I am going to say prayers and do a little healing ceremony so she can rest in peace. Shameful, someone needs to be held responsible and it's you and me!! We need to help change this. Please do what you can, now!

Vote for Constance Barnes!

Last night I was fortunate to meet Constance Barnes. She was so lovely and friendly and I am so happy that she is challenging Liberal Hedy Fry! I didn't know! Hurray there is hope!! Constance is my hero! http://www.straight.com/news/780526/ndp-nominates-constance-barnes-challenge-liberal-hedy-fry-vancouver-centre

Now normally I am Green but for this I am voting NDP! Constance is for the people. Last night my friend asked who she was, I was like, that's Constance Barnes, she's like a celebrity! She really cares about the people and fights for them.

If you want to know more about Constance then check this out http://constancebarnes.ndp.ca/about

I first became aware of her when I was following Jagrup's Welfare Challenge. http://mlaonwelfare.com/ She is a fine lady who has experienced hard times herself and has been on welfare. She knows the unfairness of the system and she can relate to others who have suffered the same challenges. Her dad Emery Barnes  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emery_Barnes went on welfare many years ago to make a point about the unfairness of it. Sadly nothing has changed. This video is four years old and still nothing is changed, it's time for change!! I believe that Constance is one of  The Changerzz-http://thechangerzz.blogspot.ca/

Please vote for her. Defeat Hedy Fry and let's get someone in here who will really make a difference and move forward in the positive ways that we need.

http://constancebarnes.ndp.ca/about

Constance is a popular municipal leader and tourism professional with the experience and determination to deliver results as Vancouver Centre’s next MP.
She’s ready to get to work with Tom Mulcair’s NDP team to:

Kid Warrior- LISTEN to him!!

"We've gotten threats from the oil and gas industry," Martinez says in Kid Warrior,
a short documentary profiling his pursuits. "Shit like that's scary. My mom wouldn't let me walk home from school for, like, the next two months. For me, it's 14-year-old kid going up against a multimillion dollar industry who will stop at nothing to silence my voice. Weird shit  happens when people start to tell the truth about big industries that take advantage of communities and take advantage of resources."

Grad Photos by Zipolita

Hey it's Spring! Hurray! So beautiful here in Vancouver with all the cherry blossoms and green leaves sprouting everywhere. Now is a great time to try on your best outfit and have a few photos taken to capture this lovely moment in time.

Especially for Mother's Day! What Mom doesn't love family photos of their beautiful children and don't forget about Grandma.

Anyways, that's what we did. My little cherub is growing up and will be off to high school before I know it. Someone gave us 2 beautiful dresses and we had been waiting for the opportunity to go out and take some lovely photos. The cherry blossoms are almost all gone now but we got some lovely photos.

And don't forget about Grad
We also wanted to see how the dresses looked, as she is having a Grade 7 Grad and we wanted to get some good photos of what the dress looks like before. This is a great thing to do. You can try out a special hairdo and see if you are comfortable. Or make sure you have good shoes. We found out one was too loose. Good thing we have time to remedy it. So a photo shoot is a little trial of the big event. Also you might not have the best weather that day or have a chance to get the photos you want...so don't miss out. Check out my offer below.

We went to the park as I like to use natural light and we  just had fun, which is how you get great shots. Then I did some photo editing and created two magazine-style photo books. Just 10 pages each but they are full page photos of Angel in her beautiful dress and to me they are like gold. They are a treasure that I will keep always. I am sure you would love one of your child or children.

So I am offering the following package currently until further notice:

Grad Photo Shoot Special $200 plus tax

1 hour Photo Shoot in outside natural setting (Local only)
Photo Editing included
Printing  and Shipping (Local only)
1 magazine-style photo book on premium paper-soft cover
(approximately 15-20 full page photos 8.5 by 11 in)
*email for further details.

Thanks!

Prayers for Nepal

There has been a terrible earthquake in Nepal. My prayers go out for all the people there and all the loved ones worried about them.  I pray hard for their safety and that aid can get to them quickly.

Reports coming in say now that the death toll is about 1500 but we will see as this sad day continues.

You can light a virtual candle and say a prayer here - Humanity's team set this up.
http://www.gratefulness.org/candles/candles.cfm?l=eng&gi=HTone

The 7.8 magnitude earthquake leveled buildings mostly in the historic section of Kathmandu, including the landmark nine-story Dharahara Tower, which was reduced to rubble with many people still inside. The tower, built in 1832, is one of the biggest tourist attractions in the city and one of the most prominent buildings destroyed by Saturday's earthquake. As many as 250 people are thought to have been inside when the quake hit, according to Al Jazeera. https://news.vice.com/article/videos-show-huge-tremors-and-utter-devastation-after-earthquake-in-nepal?utm_source=vicenewsfb

Each location has a designated "painting zone" with a variety of subject matter to choose from. Try a cityscape, a waterfront view, the flora and fauna around you, or even the picture in your mind that the day inspires.

Work in acrylics or oils, watercolour or pencil, collage or assemblage, or all of the above! All mediums and points of view are welcome.

This year’s jury will be awarding $6000 in Opus Gift Cards ($1000 at each store) to participants, categorized by age range: Adult (19+), Youth (13-18 y.o.), and Kids (up to age 12).

Can't make it to an Opus on May 10? We encourage you to take it outside and create wherever you are! Gather a group of friends, a family member, or just capture the beauty of the outdoors in solitude. Post pictures of your day on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook with the hashtag #OPC2015 (be sure your privacy settings are set to public for these images so we can see them)!

Here our some paintings I did back in 2001 before I had Angel. I have been meaning to do a few like these again but have been focusing on my oils.

Here they are for inspiration if you need it.
