Stop the Bullies-Enlighten Yourself and Others

Well we see and hear it everywhere.

It's on the TV, the election process is a disgusting example of bullying.
The House of Commons showed appalling displays of bullying with heckling the speakers, that appear to have stopped since Elizabeth May called them out on it!!

WAY TO GO ELIZABETH!!

But it didn't happen during Harper dictatorship...it came from Justin's Reign

Elizabeth May asked her fellow MPs to follow decorum and stop heckling in the House of Commons ... and she got heckled.
Posted by CBC Politics on Tuesday, January 26, 2016

It's in our homes, spouses, siblings, parents...are guilty.

It starts early. In children it starts in pre-school.

IT HAS A LONG DARK HISTORY WITH OUR FIRST NATIONS IN CANADA STEMMING FROM COLONIALISM AND THE CATHOLIC RESIDENTIAL SCHOOLS.

We can change it. You just have to recognize and learn where and why it happens.

Tomorrow is Pink Shirt day!

Pink Shirt Day. On February 24, 2016 we encourage everyone to wear something pink to show that we are all working together to prevent bullying in our schools, in our communities and online. Pink Shirt Day comes from two Nova Scotia high school students, who decided to take a stand against bullying in their own school.

I am happy to hear Justin is the first Prime Minister to go to the Pride Parade in Toronto.
And I know they are having events at my daughters school regarding Pink Day tomorrow.
http://www.pinknews.co.uk/2016/02/23/justin-trudeau-first-canadian-prime-minister-to-attend-pride-parade/

Very much looking forward to being there again, this time as PM. #PrideTO J’ai très hâte d’y participer à nouveau, cette fois en tant que PM.

Murder of Reena Virk
I was pregnant with my child when the trial for Reena Virk was in all the news and I was so traumatized that I swore I would do everything to prevent that from my child and others.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Reena_Virk

We CAN STOP IT!

Pink Shirts won't stop it, (it helps bring awareness and that's awesome) but teaching your children, friends, family, spouse and co-workers we can do our best to prevent it.  Do your part! SPEAK UP!!!

The beginning of this video is really hard to watch but it's a really great video

MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONAL NEED TO REMOVE CC.

HEY BC, I THINK WE NEED SOME MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONALS TO REMOVE CC. before she does even MORE damage to the people of this province and Canada.

Just as doctors can take away someones driver's license, Christy Clark needs to be removed from her current position.

First Nations chief to Christy Clark: ‘Dial down the rhetoric’

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/british-columbia/carr-promises-first-nations-collaboration-on-energy-development/article28699997/

Our Premier has described us as ‘rag tag’ and the ‘forces of no,’ but I’m proud to be part of that group,” he said. “I think she should dial down the rhetoric … it’s not helpful. We need to respect each other’s world view.”

Christy Clark speaks on CBC National Radio program "The House" on Feb.6, 2016. She calls the numerous Hereditary Chiefs, Scientists, MLAs and MP who are standing together to protect Flora Bank from Petronas LNG a "rag tag group of people". She lies when she says that all the elected and hereditary leaders called for retraction of the declaration (they didn't). She lies and insults when she says the First Nations in the region are "hungry" for LNG. She then makes the audacious and insulting nineteenth century colonial statement that "LNG poses the first opportunity post-contact for First Nations communities to build the kind of community they want." Seriously? How about a future with wild salmon?

Forget the Apology, It's Time for Her to Go!!

She's  Gordon Campbell, Harper & Donald Trump in one. Please someone help us wake up from this nightmare.

She does a terrible job representing the people of BC and she did not even win her seat, someone gave it to her. She needs to go. She promised families first but we've been last.

She was all for the pipeline and LNG and just does not care about the environment even though she was all smiles for the camera in Paris. She's two faced wearing the lovely Haida shawl and then saying horrible things about the Elders & Chiefs. She's so out of touch.

Here is the link http://leludeclaration.ca/
and all the people who signed it. It was beautifully done AND IT IS SO DISRESPECTFUL of Christy Clark to speak the rude hateful things she said.

https://intercontinentalcry.org/first-nations-mlas-and-mp-sign-declaration-for-permanent-protection-of-lelu-island-from-petronas-lng-project/

The declaration extends an invitation to all First Nations, the governments of Canada and British Columbia, and all communities and citizens that depend on the health of Lelu Island, Flora and Agnew Banks and the Skeena River estuary, to join in defending this sacred and unique place and to protect it for all time.

Prince Rupert, BC: Lelu Island and Flora Bank, critical habitat for wild salmon at the mouth of the Skeena River in northwestern B.C., have been declared permanently protected from industrial development by an unprecedented coalition of First Nations leaders, local residents and federal and provincial politicians.

The signing of The Lelu Island Declaration presents a major obstacle to plans by Malaysian-owned oil and gas giant, Petronas, to develop a liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant near Prince Rupert. The declaration also deals a huge blow to the provincial government’s stated aim to get major LNG plants under construction before next year’s provincial election.

"The Lelu Declaration sends a powerful message to Premier Clark and Prime Minister Trudeau,” said Hereditary Chief Yahaan of the Gitwilgyoots Tribe of the Lax Kw'alaams. “The support to stop this LNG project is overwhelming. Nations are united from the headwaters of the Skeena River to the ocean. Together, we will fight this to the end." https://intercontinentalcry.org/first-nations-mlas-and-mp-sign-declaration-for-permanent-protection-of-lelu-island-from-petronas-lng-project/

LNG plants do kill salmon, Russian scientists warn BC
Three Russian scientists and a noted conservationist speak from direct experience when they caution us about the effects these plants can have on wild salmon. The group hails from Sakhalin Island, which, according to a media release on a talk they’re giving today, is “the only place in the world that has an existing LNG facility operating in a wild salmon estuary.” Read More

HEY HEY, HO HO, CHRISTY CLARK HAS GOT TO GO!!

"Last week the BC Premier called a group of elders, chiefs, matriarchs and citizens a "ragtag group" who are the forces of no for LNG. These people are not ragtags, but rather a legitimate group of people with legitimate concerns over the location of an LNG plant. The BC Premier needs to show some respect for the citizens she purports to represent and apologize."

Oops, just realized one video didn't show up.  Fixing it now
I always loved that movie Pay It Forward,

Here's the one I missed and it's the key!!!

it's a wonderful movie that is sad, inspiring and deals with many of todays real life issues.

Surfing Facebook today came across this video about Neknomination a drinking game that is gone viral and resulted in 2 deaths.  http://globalnews.ca/news/1136850/1136850/

As this video points out this type of game has been around a long game and it asks the question what can be done about it. It also points out some great people that flipped this thing on it's head and came up with Raknomination- Random Acts of Kindness.

I hope we see more of this. Please share widely and inspire people to do more RAK-random acts of kindness.

Vigilantism & Suicide & A Message of Hope!

Even though I'm in Mexico I've been following the Amanda Todd story. It's shocking and heart-breaking and it makes a person angry and frustrated and saddened. Why?

Why is the question?
Why did that have to happen?
Why couldn't people back her up and support her before all this happened?
Why is it such a big deal for a girl to show her breasts?

Men show themselves, but our culture is still so in the dark ages. Even though women have the right to show themselves in public Canada, they don't because to the stigma and staring that goes with it.

Let's face it most men in the U.S. and Canada can not handle it. They are raised this way. It's the parents and society's fault. Indigeonous mother's in Africa and Brazil do not have this issue.

Mexican mom's breastfeed all the time and no one bats an eye.

But men in Canada and the U.S. you have some big issues.

From what  I read, was that this poor child of just 12, exploring sexuality, alone, normal...(but abnormal because nowadays computers are involved). made a mistake that 100's and thousands of other kids are making.

But it didn't stop there, she was then bullied for it, as well as stocked.

Why are girls and women so judgemental? Why are teenage girls so vicious to one another? Why are so many children dying from bullying?

Now there's an hactivist group Anonymous out there and they are doing some stocking of there own.

I have a lot of questions and not to many answers, just opinions.

I have an old memory of a show the Twilight Zone.

Do you remember that show, TWILIGHT ZONE?

Anyways this lady has been raped /or attacked and is terribly shaken.
Her husband asks her who was it, but she can't remember. They go to the doctor and she gets sent home. There's all sorts of bad feelings but she seems to be healing so they go out for a drive.

While out, the women panics when she sees a man, and says "There he is, THAT'S THE GUY!" The man says "Are you sure?" and she says "YES!" So the man gets out of the car and runs after the man.

Then he comes back all shaken and upset. She asks what's wrong. "Nothing, Nothing...let's go home!"
I think they go home or go eat...anyways at some point she looks out the window and shouts..."THERE, THAT'S THE MAN!!"

And the husband, looks terrified and sick because you know he did something bad to someone else...and it wasn't the right person.

So my message is that I was really thrilled to think that a hacktivist group  could bring someone to justice. Happy that Amanda may get some justice. But now hearing some things that someone may do something they regret because they don't have all the info and because they are running high on emotion and pain.
So please take care.

I'm praying for Amanda's family, and everyone who loved her, and everyone who hurt her, because you need help. I'm praying that the kids that thought and said terrible things to her and others, really stop and think if they are treating others as they wanted to be treated.

My question is Why? Why is that simple little rule so hard to follow. TREAT OTHERS AS YOU WISH TO BE TREATED!!

So simple. Please teach your children and remind yourself each and everyday. It's not hard and it will bring so much peace. Peace is what we all need, especially Amanda Todd and everyone who loved her.

R.I.P Amanda.

I also wanted to say is that I do not think the video should be shown in school. It needs to be shown by the parent to the child in a safe environment where the parent can really debrief and discuss deeply the personal issues that this video will bring out. The school is not the place.

Be the Difference- STOP BULLYING

Blog post by Tina Winterlik © 2012
tina_winterlik@yahoo.com
http://tinawinterlik.blogspot.com
http://twitter.com/#!/zipolita @zipolita
http://gplus.to/zipolita Google+

Yesterday my little girl came home and she was telling me about how they were talking about bullying and what happens. They were even discussing suicide which shocked me a bit. I asked her why, and she explained that sometimes when kids are really bullied they commit suicide. "Wow," I said," how did you feel.?" "How did the other kids feel, were you upset?". She said she was okay. Pretty heavy things to be talking about in grade school but that is exactly where the bullying is coming from and growing everyday. We can all make a difference. This movie will make a difference, but kids need to see it!

I hate that when people say "Oh they are just being kids." That's crap. We have to all work together and really teach our children to treat others as they wish to be treated. Teach them how to respond when kids taunt them or their friends. Let them know they are not alone. When someone is being singled out by a bully, take that kid's side, and get others to join. Don't let the bully win.

I've blogged alot about bullying. Recently I put my daughter into school. It was hard as the bullies/mean girls are one of the big issues why I didn't want her to go and one of the most difficult things to deal it. We were shocked at the things they said and did. I have been protecting my girl from this. It's a big reason we homeschooled.

I didn't want her damaged. I was horribly bullied through my youth and I didn't want her to feel that pain. She has though been hurt. Thankfully she tells me what's going on and I constanting try to scope out the situation and let her know I have her back.  Luckily the teachers and principal have been really great addressing things. For now I feel pretty good right, but I really don't know if I want to keep exposing her to this negativity.

We have talked about all of it and we have addressed it and we are constantly talking about it and how we can handle different situations.  It's a tough battle, as it is so emmersed in our entire environment, school, community, work, our whole welfare system, the police...it's everywhere, it's a nightmare.

But WE MUST NEVER GIVE UP,  WE MUST STAY STRONG AND UNITED!   Get educated about what you can do to stop it and act! You could save a life!

Stop Bullying- The crumpled paper project
(this was shared on Facebook-not sure who started it)
A teacher in New York was teaching her class about bullying and gave them the following exercise to perform. She had the children take a piece of paper and told them to crumple it up, stamp on it and really mess it up but do not rip it. Then she had them unfold the paper, smooth it out and look at how scarred and dirty is was. She then told them to tell it they’re sorry. Now even though they said they were sorry and tried to fix the paper, she pointed out all the scars they left behind. And that those scars will never go away no matter how hard they tried to fix it. That is what happens when a child bully’s another child, they may say they’re sorry but the scars are there forever. The looks on the faces of the children in the classroom told her the message hit home. Pass it on or better yet, if you're a parent or a teacher, do it with your child/children.

"Mean girls" syndrome alive and thriving- We need a Challenge Day

Blog post by Tina Winterlik © 2011

http://tinawinterlik.blogspot.com

So unfortunately "Mean Girl Syndrome" is alive and thriving in Grade 3-4 girls. We got our first good taste of it yesterday. Three littles girls who know each other playing together in the pool. My child trying to join in but was quickly ignored. She was really hurt. She couldn't understand why? We've talked about bullying before.

I tried to make light of it, said it was just because they knew each other, but you could totally see the "relationship aggression " happening.

My daughter had politely asked "May I play with you?" The one girl said nothing..One girls said "Of Course!" But when my daughter was talking to the first girl, the child she had known the longest...that child said "I'll be right back" then she went to the other child and never returned. Then the proceeded to tell secrets and ignore my child. I played with her and tried to make light of it all. My girl was really hurt, she has tried to be so nice to this girl, but there are some real issues here.

There was another child there, trying to fit in badly too, but it wasn't happening for her either. This child has no mother and I'm worried for her. When she was playing by herself, my child approached her to play, but she too, said no...and so it begins. The mean girl syndrome is alive and well and thriving.

I know these kids, not that well but I know there's issue of alcoholism, divorce, separation, kids living in 2 places, half the time with one parent, half with the other. These kids have seen there parents bully each other and now they've got a lot of baggage they are carrying to school where it's obviously playing out on the playground. And these are JUST GRADE 3 KIDS...GOING INTO GRADE 4.

This is WHY I have homeschooled. I didn't want my child, to experience this. My child who can talk to anyone, any age, and make them feel great. People and strangers comment on her good manners and her ease of being social. I feel I'm about to make a huge mistake. What can I do?

EDUCATE. Blog it.  Pray that you will SHARE IT.

Pray that you will sit down with your child and talk about this serious horrible ugly issue. Will you please do that for me?

It's so important. You "Could" Save a Child's Life.

SERIOUSLY! Children die or in turn kill in extreme cases of bullying. Don't let that happen. Please. Watch this Video Below.  Get a Challenge Day going in your school.

Now I'm about to send my child to school and part of me is Super Hesitant. Here are obvious signs, happening right in front of me. When I discreetly mentioned it to the mother, she just thought it was so good my kid was finally going to public school,  so my kid would know how to handle life. WTF?

Now, the newest member of the Department of Psychology faculty—and its only developmental psychologist at present—is using his talents to study young children and find out why girls turn to a very different kind of relational aggression.

He and other researchers also want to discover effective, empowering tools to help girls combat somewhat invisible, but brutally damaging, opponents—gossip, reputation-bashing, social exclusion and boyfriend swiping—that can turn adolescence into an emotional land mine for young women. This is the so-called "mean girls" syndrome that has captivated the media's attention in recent years. Read More Here

Boys and girls engage in aggression, but girls are more likely to express aggression in a relational sense, including behaviors such as rumors, gossip and social exclusion. Girls purposefully ignore or exclude other girls, spread rumors, and tell peers not to associate with another girl as a means of retaliation. Girls use their relationships to inflict harm, manipulate peers, and injure others' feelings of social acceptance.

For example, a relational aggressive girl may insist that her friends ignore a particular child, exclude her from their group, form secret pacts to humiliate the child, call her names, and/or spread rumors about her. Examples of such manipulation include, "If you don't do what I say, I won't play with you." Children in preschool have been observed excluding peers by saying, "Don't let her play," or using retaliation, "She was mean to me yesterday, so she can't be our friend." In older girls, the gossip can be more vicious, for example, "Her dad's a druggie," "I saw her cheat," or "She think she's all that." http://www.hopehouseonline.org/pages/girls.shtml

Profile of a girl bully

Girl bullies, fueled by their own insecurities, play on the greater insecurities of others, and play it well. “There is a gang mentality and these girls are able to incite an entire clique through manipulation and fear,” Saunders says.

It usually starts in late elementary and blooms in middle school, timed well with the blossoming of hormones, which is timed well with the need for peer acceptance. Saunders explains that “personal power, such as popularity, becomes important when you are beginning to define yourself. We define ourselves at that age through the eyes of other kids.”

Usually girl bullies possess a certain charisma or charm that attracts others to them in the first place. “She may be fun to be with, someone who makes you feel special when she is favoring you.”

But this gift is buried in baggage that also contains other emerging emotional issues: abandonment fears, feelings of inadequacy, loneliness, a sense of powerlessness over other areas of their lives.

Powerful fears need powerful weapons. “Girls rule,” Saunders says, “through passive-aggressive means—it’s what they’re socialized, conditioned, even trained to do.”

A girl bully will find someone who is “different” to belittle; weaker, to dominate; stronger, to neutralize. She attacks insidiously through gossip, whispering, rumors, social exclusion from the lunchroom table, the slumber party, the playground. She may be part of the “bully-victim” cycle, needing to control others because she feels bullied.

Local principal tackles 'Mean Girls' syndrome'

DeSantis was receiving multiple phone calls at the beginning of the school year from parents concerned about their daughters. There were some girls who didn't want to go to class because of gossip that had been spread or bullying they had experienced from other girls at the school.

"(It was) those hurtful things girls do to one another," DeSantis said.

She decided to confront the problem head-on. She set up a meeting with the girls -- those who had spread the gossip and those who'd been hurt by it -- to work out their differences and get at the root of the problem.

"The first few meetings were rough," DeSantis said.

So she had them play icebreaker-type games and helped the girls get to know the other sides of one another. And amazingly, it worked.

Sitting in one of their weekly chats earlier this month, many of the girls said they hadn't realized they were causing such problems and were beginning to understand why they were engaging in some of the mean behavior. http://www.redding.com/news/2007/Apr/16/defusing-discord/
