Are Facebook & Google CONTROLLING Our Information?

What FACEBOOK and GOOGLE are Hiding from world?

Wow, you have to watch this. In a way Facebook & Google are no better than the television that I hated with all those commercials and totally negative news broadcast.

By personalizing our feeds and searches we are in a way being censored or are censoring ourselves?

Are we allowing Google, Facebook and Yahoo News to feed us what we think we want to see, but not getting the big picture?

Watch this very enlightening TED Talk about the dangers of filter bubbles and the new personalized algorithms.

Update: Just as I was posting this, I googled Belo Monte and came across this. Yay!!!

Activists hail order to halt huge Brazilian dam-http://goo.gl/Geqgs

BRASILIA — Environmentalists and activists for Brazil's indigenous peoples on Thursday cheered a federal court order halting construction at the controversial $11 billion Belo Monte hydroelectric dam.

Government officials said meanwhile they would appeal the decision on the dam, a project which is a centerpiece of efforts to boost energy production in the rapidly growing economy but has drawn criticism both at home and abroad for its impact.

Antonio Melo, spokesman for the Xingu Forever Alive movement, a coalition of dam opponents aimed at defending the river Xingu, hailed what he said was "a partial victory." Read More Here

Chief Raoni crying when he learned that the President of Brazil approved the Belo Monte dam project on the Xingu indigenous lands. Belo Monte will be bigger than the Panama Canal, flooding nearly a million acres of rainforest & indigenous lands. 40,000 indigenous and local people will be forced off their native lands (as well as millions of unknown species & plants) In the name of "progress"

Wow, this is very interesting. Not sure I agree with everything but he makes some really interesting points about kids and how technology is affecting them, changing them and how different their lives are compared to how ours lives were as children. Check it out!

Professor Philip Zimbardo conveys how our individual perspectives of time affect our work, health and well-being. Time influences who we are as a person, how we view relationships and how we act in the world.

So just reading the news this morning, have you heard about this "neutrinos travel faster than light" and Einstein's Theory in question. Did you ever see KPAX? Excellent, Excellent Movie starring Kevin Spacey and Jeff Bridges. You have to edit one part if you have to watch it with your kids, so be sure to watch it first.

It's really a fabulous movie and I love it. There's a cool part in there where they discuss Einstein and it totally made me thing of it when I read this article this morning. So read this and then go rent KPAX.

From Yahoo News
Physicists reported Thursday that sub-atomic particles called neutrinos can travel faster than light, a finding that -- if verified -- would blast a hole in Einstein's theory of relativity. Read more here   http://ca.news.yahoo.com/particles-seen-travel-faster-light-scientists-185504341.html

It's been a rough week, I've been sick and dealing with some personal problems and it's been gray and I've heard from friends that many of you are going thru similar hard times. Just listening to news and the latest economics and stats things are gloomy, that is why today a miracle was very welcomed. A little miracle, a sign of hope.

When my little cherub woke up she said "Why is it so gloomy?" and I said "Well there's a bit of blue sky over there" and then she said "But now it's raining!" surprized, I said, "It is? Well maybe there will be a rainbow" as I kept working on computer, looking thru facebook for something to blog about.

And then I heard my little girl say "THERE'S A BIG GIGANTIC RAINBOW!"

So I ran and got my camera and here it is!

Funny we found the coconut today, because I just put up my photos from Rarotonga and Aitutaki on my PhotoZ Blog and then came across this Raro Website http://www.rarolens.com/p/other-subjects.html

On my blog I was mentioning if you want to see the "true" Polynesian Dancing
then the Cook Islands are where you got to go.
I didn't have a video camera back then so I really couldn't show people, but now here...here they have shared and you can all see how fantastic they are.

I would love to take my girl here for 6 months and learn how to dance and to drum like they do, it's so beautiful!

Check out these videos, you'll see what I mean.

http://www.rarolens.com - more video footage from this year's Te Maeva Nui (constitution celebrations) on Rarotonga, Cook Islands. This kapa rima (action song) from the dancers on the outer island of Mangaia earned the team a B grade. http://www.rarolens.com - The dancers from Pukapuka are always crowd favourites at the constitution culture competition (Te Maeva Nui) on Rarotonga, Cook Islands. They're innovative and cheeky and great fun to watch. This video shows excerpts from the kapa rima (action song) section. It was awarded a B grade. http://www.rarolens.com - The golden oldies dancers put on a great performance and showed the youngsters that they still know a thing or two about moving at the 20011 Dancer of the Year competition in Rarotonga, Cook Islands. The contest was held at Hidie's Bar in Avarua in April 2011. www.rarolens.com - Nikao village dancers hold a dress rehearsal for their items in the 2009 Maeva Nui cultural dance competition. Nikao came first in the competition. Island night show by E Matike dance troupe at Highland Paradise, Rarotonga, Cook Islands.

The Dog & the Mysterious Coconut!

Blog post by Tina Winterlik © 2011

http://gplus.to/zipolita Google+

So I have to tell you about the funny story that happened today. We are at the beach (in Vancouver- West Coast of Canada) and my friend turns to me and says "What do you think that is in the water?" " I don't know but it looks like a coconut. ...but it must be a ball. " "Yah, probably a ball!" my friend says.

So we sit and relax and in a bit decide to collect the kid and leave, as we get closer water, we see, it is a coconut!! We tell my daughter, she sees and she wants it. Just then this dog sees and he wants it.

It's a big golden lab and he goes for it, but it's huge and he can't get his mouth around it. I get worried as it's going out farther and farther and I'm afraid he'll get too cold and to far out and drown...so I mention this to Angel ...loud enough to the owner and we try calling him in. No good, he keeps going for it...the coconut keeps turning and going out, a few times he manages to get it back ,but then the darn thing turns again.

Eventually we coax the dog in. We are all calling, the owner, my child and me,"Good boy, Good boy!!" but just as the owner turns her back he goes for it again!!  I wish I would have had my camera.

Again he's trying and trying, and I am thinking "he'll never get it, I hope nothing bad doesn't happen" I don't know why I wasn't being more positive.

Anyways, again we coax him in, because the coconut is going way far out and my daughter is getting a little upset because we may never get the coconut. So after this time when we coax the dog in I say "Let's just sit down, the waves will wash it in, we just have to be patience!"

So we do, but the dog looks over at us, and another dog goes for it, but then changes it's mind, that's when the big lab goes again. And we are like "Oh No!!"

But Guess What? He got it!! YAYYYYY! We all shout! Hurray! What a good dog!!

So then he's about to eat it, ...well chew it apart and we ask the owner if we can take it. She says "Of Course!"

I felt a little bad because he was such a GOOD DOG to get it, but it made my girl soooo happy! All the way home she said "It was the best day ever!"

It set our imaginations in motion...where did it come from? Hmmmm! Hawaii? Mexico? South Pacific? We all had ideas...dreams. Where do you think it came from? It still had it's stem...

Now we have a friend for Harry, my girl says! Remember Harry...we found him in Cancun \Mexico and he travelled with us from there to Merida, Palenque, San Cristobal Las Casas, Zipolite, Acapulco, Zihuatanejo, to Puerto Vallarta and finally Bucerias!!

Here's our new amigo!!

TAKE A STAND AGAINST ONLINE SPYING

TAKE A STAND AGAINST ONLINE SPYING!
 http://openmedia.ca/news/canadians-fight-government-proposal-spy-private-internet-use

Quoted from Open Media "set of bills that will force every phone and Internet provider to surrender Canadians’ personal information to "authorities," without a warrant."

Watch these videos(below). http://openmedia.ca/educate   Please sign the petition and share this with your friends. This is a VERY SERIOUS issue, and if we do not unitedly SPEAK UP NOW, it will be VERY DIFFICULT to change things.

It drives me crazy, more and more I feel like we are being ruled by a dictator. Crazy laws just crammed thru parliment, regular people just so busy in our lives we aren't paying attention or we don't hear about something until it's to late.

We have to be on top of this though! This is very serious. We need to setup and use the tools we have to tell the government we don't like it and they can not proceed. We have those tools. Social Media allows us to do this. It gives us the power and think carefully now, the very same tools and power that they are trying to control. They are afraid of it.

There is no doubt SOCIAL MEDIA IS POWERFUL, look how it has helped Egypt and other countries. Social Media is a wonderful tool when it comes to helping report disasters, and when spreading the word to help.Well this is a DISASTER waiting to happen.

Do Not Wait Until it's Too Late. Share these videos. Share links, talk to people about this, let as many people you know what is happening. It's our only hope to prevent going back in time. We have to protect ourselves.

I know this may sound crazy but we are not living in the time of Hitler, or when they were blackballing people or in a country where they are spying on you all the time.

We live in Canada. Canada is supposed to be this beautiful place, open minded, free, safe, we don't have to be looking over our shoulders all the time, where we don't have to be paranoid. Supposedly this law is to catch criminals, but it is badly written and many people and the whole country's freedom is in jeopardy if people don't speak up not and stop this. Read More Here http://openmedia.ca/educate

(Quoted From Open Media)The government is set to ram through a new set of electronic surveillance laws that will allow authorities to access private information of any Canadian, at any time, without a warrant. You'll be forced to pay for this online spying scheme. The government has failed to inform Canadians about the privacy and data security implications of this scheme, but Canadians are stepping up to the plate. Share these important citizen-made videos with everyone you know before it's too late—let's stand together and make our voices heard.

"She's an old soul!"

Blog post by Tina Winterlik © 2011
http://tinawinterlik.blogspot.com

http://gplus.to/zipolita Google+

Ten years ago today I was in Bucerias, Mexico. A friend and I had gone there. We had got a great deal on a 2 week flight and we were staying at the Suites Costa Dorada.  We were sitting down to breakfast at Karen's and had just ordered french toast when the waiter told us this bizarre news.

"What?"  That can't be right! They must be mixed up. ??? Can't be as bad as what they are saying. We didn't have access to a television and so we sat there numbly and ate our breakfast and tried to ascertain if what the waiter said was true.

After breakfast we walked down the street and stopped at Mark's Bar and Grill. There were a lot of people and we went to see what was going on. There was a television there, and we stared in disbelief as we heard reports of the tragedy unfolding.

Things just got weirder after that. We heard reports that all the planes were grounded and we wouldn't be able to fly home and who knows what would happen. We didn't even comprehend the true horror and size of this event.

I had been going to Mexico to live...forever or a long time. I had given away many things and well I was going there to return to the man who would become my daughter's father.

The friend I came down with had to figure out how he was getting home...we were all numbed out and trying to figure out what was going to happen and plan our lives.

The end of the 2 weeks arrived. My friend left, the airline had some kind of party for the inconvenience, which seems so truly bizzare and I made my way to Zipolite, 27 hours on buses.

I had planned to sell jewelry and art and live with my new love, but everything was screwed up. The town was a ghost town. There were no tourists. No tourists, no money.  It was a very difficult situation for everyone.  People there were nervous. When I had got on the bus they had used a metal detector and they made me put my pack under the bus....had never experienced anything like that, EVERYONE  was scared and nervous.

I only had a small amount of savings when I went down and they quickly were being eaten up and I didn't know what to do. The relationship was all messed up. We were both afraid, no money and who knows what would happen. Still we clung to each other and "made love like it was the end of the world. "

At the end of just one month I felt I should leave, I had written a friend in Bucerias and he said we could start a web design biz, he would help with the computer as my laptop was to old. So off I went on the bus. To be honest, I was 39, and on the trip down I was hoping I would get pregnant. We had actually tried in April before I had left the last time (after the fire ) but nothing happened. I hadn't told a soul, I knew  many people wouldn't be supportive. In my heart I wanted a child so bad and had for many years.

I believe a miracle happened during this time and this is the miracle I believe happened. I believe that there was such a huge loss of life, that there were all these souls floating around and that because I was praying so hard for a child, God and the soul decided to grant my wish. This is a feeling I have had ever since I found out I was pregnant.

Many people say when they meet my child say "She's an old soul!" And this I believe is so true. They are more right on then they will ever know.

There are many "old souls" out there, many children were born after this day. Many beautiful souls that came back to share their lives with us again.

So for me this is a very sad and tragic day, but it is also a happy and joyous time as I have been given one of God's greatest gifts.

The gift of a child...and not just child...but an "old soul."

Thank God!! Thank all the angels! Kienan is HOME!!! Wow! This is such fabulous news to wake up to. I prayed really hard and it was on my mind first thing this morning when I woke and I prayed and then to see it here on the web, that he is safe and home. Fabulous news!!! I'm crying tears of joy. I felt so bad for the mom and dad and especially sad when Hopley's mom made an emotional plea on the news, you could see she's not well and this whole thing must be so horrible for her. It's all very sad but so so happy that Kienan is safe and home. What a miracle.
The social media helped I am sure. It was everywhere!!! on all the buses, the children's shows ran it along the bottom of the screen, all over Twitter and Facebooks and blogs. I am so happy he's home, Thank you God!

Bill Graveland The Canadian Press
SPARWOOD, B.C—Police say three-year-old Kienan Hebert was found safe and sound four days after he was abducted from his home in Sparwood, B.C. RCMP Cpl. Dan Moskaluk said early Sunday that the boy was returned by the suspect in the case after an emotional plea from his family. “We can confirm that 3-year-old Kienan Hebert is safe and sound and alive,” Moskaluk said during a Sunday press conference in Sparwood. “Little guys like that are very resilient and that’s what we’re seeing this morning,” Moskaluk added about Kienan. Police said someone called 911 and told authorities they would find the missing boy at the home from where he was abducted. They believe the suspected kidnapper brought him back there. A search is now on for the suspect.

The house had been cordoned off and unoccupied since the family found the boy missing Wednesday morning. They had last seen him when they put him to bed the previous evening. “Great news!” said Dave Elliott, a neighbour who was among four or five people gathered outside the house where the Hebert family has been staying, while police were combing through their own home for clues. Elliott said he did not want to say too much as the boy's father, Paul Hebert, will be speaking later about the positive outcome of a search that has drawn in hundreds of volunteers.

On Saturday, the boy's parents brushed away tears as Moskaluk confirmed that their son was kidnapped from his home in this scenic close-knit mountain community. The boy has a history of sleepwalking, and many were hoping he had perhaps just wandered away. Clasping his wife's hand tightly under the table, Paul Hebert had a message for Kienan's suspected captor, who police allege is Randall Hopley, 46, a convicted sex offender from the Sparwood area.

“We're just asking, please bring Kienan to a safe place right now, OK? Like a gas station or store parking lot where he is visibly seen and you could just drop him off there okay? Walk away,” Hebert said quietly. The boy’s father Paul Hebert also spoke at the conference, pleading with whoever took Kienan to return him.

"We are just asking, please, bring Kienan to a safe place right now, like a gas station or a store parking lot, where he is visibly seen. You can just drop him off there. Walk away. We just want to have him safe."

He said Kienan can’t speak, and won’t be able to reveal what happened to him.

So this morning I received a very disturbing email. (See below)

Stephen Harper is going to try to push thru a VERY FLAWED BILL AND YOUR PRIVACY IS IN SERIOUS DANGER. Basically it says that if the bill passes that law enforcement will be able to tap our phones and access our online information WITHOUT a search warrant and the will be able to access it by just "SHOWING REASONABLE CAUSE" to the service provider. That "reasonable cause "  wording is way to flexible and you know that it can be abused.

Let's not give our privacy or our rights away!! We have to STOP this now.

Start re-posting this on your Facebook, Twitter & Google+ and raise awareness.  Make sure you do your part to let EVERYONE know about this terrible bill.

This bill needs to be treated the same as the "Stop Gordo from getting the award" because it's way more important. So Listen UP!! and Speak Up Canadians, because this is some serious sh_t!!!

Omnibus Crime Bill

This is Elizabeth's email below.

In a few weeks, Parliament will resume and Elizabeth May, Canada’s first elected Green MP, will be in the House raising the issues that so many others won’t speak to.
Harper’s Conservatives plan to table an omnibus crime bill that contains some very bad legislation. Three of the more disturbing items lumped in with the omnibus Crime Bill are collectively known as the “Lawful Access” legislation:
  • Improving Access to Investigative Tools for Serious Crimes Act (C-50)
  • Investigative Powers for the 21st Century Act (C-51)
  • Investigating and Preventing Criminal Electronic Communications Act (C-52)
The Green Party supports efforts to tackle cyber crime, but is deeply concerned about the erosion of Canadians’ privacy. Currently, government agencies must show probable cause and obtain a court order before tapping your phones, and intercepting your mail and online communications. If this bill is passed, government agencies will be able access your online communications without a court order--they need only tell your service providers that they have a ‘reasonable suspicion’.
In this context, reasonable is a dangerously flexible word that threatens your right to privacy. A reasonable government would give each section of the crime bill the attention that it deserves, encouraging debate and a clarification of possible, unforeseen consequences. Omnibus bills are known to make profound changes to unrelated aspects of administration and policy, especially because Parliament can’t properly study them.

With a majority government, knowing that it can pass every piece of legislation that it creates, the Conservatve government shows a disturbing contempt for Canadians by continuing the practice of linking highly dubious laws to those upon which we can all agree.
Elizabeth forced the Conservatives to take the Mega-Trials section of the omnibus bill to committee and we were able to help fix serious flaws in that section. Now she needs your help in reminding the Conservatives that Canadians care deeply about our justice system and right to privacy. This bill should be divided into logical segments and debated with the attention and seriousness that Canadian voters deserve from their MPs.

Shamanism-http://thepowerpath.com/
The main theme for September 2011 is Allowing.

This is a tremendous and unpredictable time of change, opportunity and resetting patterns and we have no idea how it's all going to manifest or show up. So what is called for right now is to be generously allowing of whatever is occurring to occur without resistance, fear, judgment, over processing, over identifying, over thinking or denial. "Allowing,” means opening yourself up to the unknown, stretching your flexibility muscle and being neutral about whatever is happening. Allowing is not about surrender or giving up, nor is it passive. It is an active choice to let things be the way they are. Read More Here

Aha!
For years now I have been so tempted to sign up for that Classmates.com.

I would get those emails saying that some friend that I knew signed my guestbook, BUT I just didn't trust them.

I hated the fact that they wanted your credit card number and they had that weird auto renew thing and I wrote them and told them they should have Paypal and that I just did not "Trust them!".

I couldn't understand WHY they didn't use Paypal and it all seemed so fishy to me.

I was RIGHT! ' They were being misleading and today I got the weirdest email.

I thought it was a scam, so I googled it, but guess what , it is "NOT" a hoax.

Here is the info. If you live in the U.S. follow thru on this to make a statement!!

None of the lawsuit applies to me because I do not reside in the U.S. SO I won't be getting my big "$10".

I AM JUST HAPPY THAT SOMEONE ADDRESSED THIS WHOLE THING.
