#Webelieve #MM- MASS MEDITATION- the Canucks WIN

Blog post by Tina Winterlik © 2011

http://tinawinterlik.blogspot.com

Dear Canuck Fans, and hey what the Heck, even the Canucks,

Want to do something  cRaZy. Since there's a lot of stress out there, lots of happiness but stress too, ...LET'S CHANNEL IT.  If you listen to these videos, you will have to agree that meditation when done collectively is INCREDIBLY POWERFUL.

Luongo to start for Canucks in Game 5

What if there was a collective Meditation- a "Meddling of the Brains" and that we just project the Canucks will win and they will. SIMPLE!  #WeBelieve

I am seeing this term on twitter #webelieve, now and it's a great hashtag for this. It's so cool as I tweeted a few things about just believing and then this pops up.

Why not before the game we held a small 5 minute guided meditation, projecting that the Canucks win.

Maybe the "Brilliant" cameraman, tv, film folks could actually put together footage and make it a projection- visualization of them winning. (This isn't new in sports but to do a #MM  ~ MASS MEDITATION would be)

Anyways, that's my cRaZy idea. A #MM ~  MASS MEDITATION RIGHT BEFORE THE GAME WITH EVERYONE PROJECTING (visualizing) CANUCKS WIN, AND GIVING THANKS FOR THAT AND ALL THE OTHER GREAT THINGS IN THEIR LIVES!!!  Doesn't that seem insane, but what a COOL experiment.

When the Canucks WIN then we could take this example and apply it to all sorts of issues.

So starting to paint a bit more. Did these 3 last night for fun. These are just done on acid free paper but it's only meant for drawing and light washes. Going to buy some paper next weeks and go out and really enjoy my environment. Hopefully head over to Stanley Park, it's been years since I've painted over there.

Sunday, June 12th, 2011, 8:30am – 4:30pm
instructor: Paul Stamets
cost: $175 + HST (includes lunch)
Fungi, particularly mushrooms, offer some powerful, practical solutions to many of the forces of environmental degradation facing the biosphere. The central premise is that habitats have immune systems, just like people, and our close evolutionary relationship to fungi can be the basis for novel pairings that lead to greater sustainability and better health. Paul Stamets will discuss the evolution of mushrooms in ecosystems and how fungi can help heal the environment and its inhabitants. Paul’s work with mycelium shows how these largely untapped organisms can replace chemical insecticides; break down toxic wastes, including petroleum-based products such as diesel, dioxins, and numerous other toxins into non-toxic forms. Farmers, gardeners, green architects and ecological designers all can use these emerging mycotechnologies.

June 17-18: Wind, Water, and Sun: Alternative solutions for heating, cooling, and powering your home

Friday evening, June 17th, 7:00pm – 9:30pm
Saturday, June 18th, 2011, 8:30am – 4:30pm
instructor: Steve Abbott

This workshop covers home energy needs on both a theoretical and practical hands-on basis. The course begins with an evening overview adressing typical household energy needs and conservation strategies, including a review of renewable energy technologies for meeting those needs. This will be followed by an in-depth exposure to passive solar principles for heating and cooling and active solar collection for domestic hot water, two of the highest areas of consumption in a typical home. Our final session will include a show and tell of passive solar improvements to an existing home, a solar cooker and other appropriate technology devices. We will finish the course with a hands-on session manufacturing an efficient solar thermal collector and incorporating it into a domestic hot water system.

Beekeeping 365

Sunday, June 19th, 2011, 8:30am – 4:00pm
instructor: Brian Scullion

Keeping bees provides us with honey and pollen, pollination, and an intimate relationship with the fascinating world of bees. This one-day workshop will present a year’s cycle, including all of the steps from building boxes and selecting queens to extracting honey. The workshop will provide an emphasis on bee health, including nutrition, diseases, pests, and various ways to manage your bees in harmony with the landscape and your neighbours.

End the War on Drugs! Change Your Words-Change Your World

Blog post by Tina Winterlik © 2011

http://tinawinterlik.blogspot.com

Did you see this Video! Please watch it!

Now stop and think about this whole mentality about the "War on Drugs"
The whole energy about it is negative and it has attracted and created so much negative energy that thousands of people have died. But now people are waking up and they understand that this whole "idea" is bad, negative and it needs to be gotten rid of.

You can help! We can all help! Please read the links and articles below. Let's work together, because this world will never go forward in a positive if we don't address this issue.

http://www.avaaz.org/en/end_the_war_on_drugs/?fp

I thought for sure we could get this to 750,000 over the weekend but it didn't happen. Come on people, speak up. Tell the politicians what you want. They are afraid of you!! they are afraid of upsetting the balance, but there is no balance right now. There is kaos and it must end. Educate yourself and your child, your friends, neighbours, facebook friends, twitter peeps. Together we can turn this around.

Just like in prohibition times, we need to make a stand here and say STOP! Enough is enough, your way does not work. There is a better way. I personally think alcohol is much worse than marijuana but anything abused is bad.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prohibition
Quoting From Wikipedia
After several years, prohibition became a failure in North America and elsewhere, as bootlegging (rum-running) became widespread and organized crime took control of the distribution of alcohol. Distilleries and breweries in Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean flourished as their products were either consumed by visiting Americans or illegally imported to the U.S. Chicago became notorious as a haven for prohibition dodgers during the time known as the Roaring Twenties. Prohibition generally came to an end in the late 1920s or early 1930s in most of North America and Europe, although a few locations continued prohibition for many more years.

That's where is all comes down to talking to our kids, teaching them about health, their bodies and treating people for illness and abuse, not abusing them more by neglecting them.

Quoting From Wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Repeal_of_Prohibition
The proponents of Prohibition had believed that banning alcoholic beverages would reduce or even eliminate many social problems, particularly drunkenness, crime, mental illness, and poverty. Journalist H.L. Mencken asserted in 1925 that respect for law diminished rather than increased during Prohibition, and drunkenness, crime, insanity, and resentment towards the federal government had all increased.[citation needed]Some supporters of Prohibition, such as Rev. Charles Stelzle in his 1918 book Why Prohibition!, also believed that Prohibition would eventually lead to reductions in taxes, since drinking "produced half the business" for institutions supported by tax dollars such as courts, jails, hospitals, almshouses, and insane asylums.[1] In reality, however, alcohol consumption and the incidence of alcohol-related domestic violence were decreasing before the 18th Amendment was passed. Furthermore, reformers "were dismayed to find that child neglect and violence against children actually increased during the Prohibition era."[2]

Quoting from Avaaz "Experts all agree that the most sensible policy is to regulate, but politicians are afraid to touch the issue. In 72 hours, a global commission including former heads of state and foreign policy chiefs of the UN, EU, US, Brazil, Mexico and more will break the taboo and publicly call for new approaches including decriminalization and regulation of drugs."

Quoting from Avaaz
For 50 years current drug policies have failed everyone, everywhere but public debate is stuck in the mud of fear and misinformation. Everyone, even the UN Office on Drugs and Crime which is responsible for enforcing this approach agrees -- deploying militaries and police to burn drug farms, hunting down traffickers, and imprisoning dealers and addicts – is an expensive mistake. And with massive human cost -- from Afghanistan, to Mexico, to the USA the illegal drug trade is destroying countries around the world, while addiction, overdose deaths, and HIV/AIDS infections continue to rise.

Meanwhile, countries with less-harsh enforcement -- like Switzerland, Portugal, the Netherlands, and Australia -- have not seen the explosion in drug use that proponents of the drug war have darkly predicted. Instead, they have seen significant reductions in drug-related crime, addiction and deaths, and are able to focus squarely on dismantling criminal empires. Read More Here

I have a great idea, Why do People get Together and Do Flash mobs to "End the War on Drugs"

Quoting from the Green Party
The Green Party recommends the following actions:

  • Legalize marijuana by removing marijuana from the drug schedule.
  • Create a regulatory framework for the safe production of marijuana by small, independent growers.
  • Develop a taxation rate for marijuana similar to that of tobacco.
  • Establish the sale of marijuana to adults for medicinal or personal use through licensed distribution outlets.
  • Educate the public about the health threats of marijuana, tobacco and other drug use.
  • Provide increased funding to safe injection sites, treatment facilities and addict rehabilitation which have now proven to be economically and socially in the best interests of the country.

The Global Commission on Drug Policy will build on the successful experience of the Latin American Commission on Drugs and Democracy convened by former presidents Cardoso of Brazil, Gaviria of Colombia and Zedillo of Mexico. Persuaded that the association between drug trade, violence and corruption was a threat to democracy in Latin America, the Commission reviewed the current ‘war on drugs’ policies and opened a public debate about an issue that tends to be surrounded by fear and misinformation. http://www.globalcommissionondrugs.org/Report

"The Grand Rapids LipDub Video was filmed May 22nd, with 5,000 people, and involved a major shutdown of downtown Grand Rapids, which was filled with marching bands, parades, weddings, motorcades, bridges on fire, and helicopter take offs. It is the largest and longest LipDub video, to date.

This video was created as an official response to the Newsweek article calling Grand Rapids a "dying city." We disagreed strongly, and wanted to create a video that encompasses the passion and energy we all feel is growing exponentially, in this great city. We felt Don McLean's "American Pie," a song about death, was in the end, triumphant and filled to the brim with life and hope." - Rob Bliss, Director & Executive Producer

Kelly MacNamara-Sullivan Community Supporter Passes Away

Blog post by Tina Winterlik © 2011

http://tinawinterlik.blogspot.com

Kelly was part of my family and he will be dearly missed. Please read this very nice article describing the wonderful things Kelly did. It's odd how you can know someone for over 25 years but if you only see them on holidays and family get togethers, well sometimes time is short and you don't really know all the great things that person did, you just know they are SPECIAL! We will miss his wonderful laugh and his casual laid back manner that made us all feel so at ease. He really was a very kind soul and will  be remembered. Our prayers to loved ones and all those touched by tragic loss.

Kelly loved kids and always made a big deal over Angel and made us feel special whenever we all got together.

Sullivan community supporter passes away

Surrey has lost an ardent defender of history, a tireless volunteer, and an amazing father and husband.

Kelly MacNamara, the soft-spoken community activist for Sullivan heritage, died Friday morning at home of what is believed to have been a heart attack.

He would have turned 50 on June 14.

He is survived by his daughters Christina and Riana and son Evan.

MacNamara was extremely active in the community, volunteering with the fire department, acting as barbecue chef at all Sullivan Elementary School events, coaching the Challenger baseball team in Walnut Grove and donating his time at The Centre for Child Development, to name a few.

Update June 1 2011
Amazing! In just a few days, we blew past our goal of 500,000 voices calling for an end to the war on drugs. Our message will be hand-delivered to world leaders on Thursday, June 2 at a press conference in New York and to the UN Secretary-General on Friday, June 3. The event will feature a live counter of petition signatures, so every one of us counts -- let's keep spreading the word and building this campaign!

Posted May 30 2011
In 72 hours, we could finally see the beginning of the end of the ‘war on drugs’. This expensive war has completely failed to curb the plague of drug addiction, while costing countless lives, devastating communities, and funneling trillions of dollars into violent organized crime networks.

Experts all agree that the most sensible policy is to regulate, but politicians are afraid to touch the issue. In 72 hours, a global commission including former heads of state and foreign policy chiefs of the UN, EU, US, Brazil, Mexico and more will break the taboo and publicly call for new approaches including decriminalization and regulation of drugs.

This could be a once-in-a-generation tipping-point moment -- if enough of us call for an end to this madness. Politicians say they understand that the war on drugs has failed, but claim the public isn't ready for an alternative. Let's show them we not only accept a sane and humane policy -- we demand it. Sign the petition and share with everyone -- when we reach 1/2 million, it will be personally delivered to world leaders by the global commission.

Powerful lobbies still stand in the way of change, including military, law enforcement, and prison departments whose budgets are at stake. And politicians fear that voters will throw them out of office if they support alternative approaches, as they will appear weak on law and order. But many former drug Ministers and Heads of State have come out in favour of reform since leaving office, and polls show that citizens across the world know the current approach is a catastrophe. Momentum is gathering towards new improved policies, particularly in regions that are ravaged by the drug trade.

If we can create a worldwide outcry in the next 72 hours to support the bold calls of the Global Commission on Drug Policy, we can overpower the stale excuses for the status quo. Our voices hold the key to change -- Sign the petition and spread the word.

We have a chance to enter the closing chapter of this brutal 'war' that has destroyed millions of lives. Global public opinion will determine if this catastrophic policy is stopped or if politicians shy away from reform. Let's rally urgently to push our hesitating leaders from doubt and fear, over the edge, and into reason.

Human Rights–Based Approach to Drugs Policy

Blog post by Tina Winterlik © 2011

http://tinawinterlik.blogspot.com

The need for a human rights–based approach to drugs policy

 http://greenparty.ca/media-release/2011-06-02/need-human-rights-based-approach-drugs-policy

The need for a human rights–based approach to drugs policy

Decriminalization in Europe has proven successful in lowering the rates of drug use.  Portugal’s decriminalization of narcotics in 2001 has resulted in it now having the lowest use of narcotic drugs in the European Union.  The Green Party is recommending that following the UN Conference, the Canadian government should launch a public consultation on the decriminalization of illicit drugs, considering the current high costs of the law enforcement effort.

Canada's National Anthem

Blog post by Tina Winterlik © 2011

http://tinawinterlik.blogspot.com

Canada's National Anthem is trending on twitter right now, so I thought I blog about it. And since they have changed this song, since I first learned it, I thought I'd post  the words.

Official Lyrics of O Canada

O Canada
Our home and native land
True patriot love in all thy sons command.

With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free

From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

God keep our land glorious and free
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

Remade Design- Rescuing & Reusing Pretty Things

Check out the Beautiful Jewelry at "Remade Design"

Remade Design is a collective for artists who design using found, thrifted and recycled material. We love to support and encourage each other's creativity and entrepreneurism.

Rescuing beautiful and unwanted bits and pieces of fabric, jewelry, and buttons from their second-hand fates is more honor than responsibility. It is deeply satisfying to redesign and tell new stories with old material.

Our fabric art and jewelry pieces are inspired by colour combinations we've seen in other art forms or in nature, by people we know or have noticed, even by songs we love. Inspiration comes from strange and interesting places! Many things inspire us and keep us in the flow of creating fun and practical art that is easy on the eyes and on the planet.

Our mission is to rescue and reuse pretty things! Follow us on twitter - remadedesigner - and we'll share some of the sources of inspiration that keep us creating and some of our tips and tricks.
