Will you help us immerse ourselves in culture?

My daughter was 4.5 when my mom passed and we were in Nelson.
We moved during Kindergarten. We had 4 teachers in that one year. 2 in Nelson because the first teacher needed a knee operation and so another teacher took over. But in Vancouver, the same thing happened. The first teacher got sick and so another came.





On the first day of grade one some really funky things happened and it was the catalyst that pushed me to buy the tickets...and because I had managed to scrape together enough money and off we went to Mexico, so she could learn about her Mexican culture, language and landscapes.

This is a great video and it explains so simply what is wrong with the way people learn these days and what is considered "normal everyday life" and what is school and how it got there.



And this doesn't even mention the TRUTH... about the evilness of Residential Schools and how that was the horrendous way of assimilating all the Indigenous people for 125 years and it's legacy lives with so many children taken away (stolen) and put in the welfare system and the parents put in jail...it is still happening, just a different format but there has been good and Shane Pointe talks about it here...but we have so much work to do.




And do you SEE how evil corporate greed and selfish politicians hurt so many children, teachers, families, so bad that they had to go to court. Angel had 16 teachers/subs in grade 7. It was truly insane.

So my kid's been brainwashed by the system. She's convinced she needs to stay in school. I am like what the "f" are you learning there that we can't learn from the environment (Mother Earth) and the internet (Google God).

Traveling is huge.
 Learning another language and culture and it is her culture. Her father is Mexican and she has half siblings, nephews, nieces, cousins and they all speak Spanish and live in Mexico and we have not been there for 5 years. It is too long.

When I made my first trip with her it took my 7 years from the time she was conceived to the time she actually met her father.

She has forgotten SO MUCH! and she doesn't even know or realize it. Time is like that.

So I am putting it out there. I want to take her on a big trip. Maybe just to go to Mexico. Maybe bigger... like a train across so called "Canada" and fly to Portugal, go to Sweden, (Prague-Bohemia) and then to Mexico and up to Vancouver Island (Nanoose Bay) ...

See that would be tracing my roots and hers. Maybe I could make a documentary about it all. That's the dream.

And I am not asking for freebies, I want to sell my art to pay for it. So that's why I was thinking of doing an auction or something. Maybe use Facebook Live or something because I want to donate some of the money raised to help the environmental causes that need help fighting the stupid government/pipelines/fishfarms/dams/Lng ...I don't know yet.

I just know I have to do something soon. I would like to de-phone ourselves. I bought her a phone for safety but her and I are on it way to much...I want us to spend time on the beach, in the woods, outside enjoying life, learning new things, customs, culture.

My Spanish sucks right now, my French is basically non-existent. She on the other hand is finishing up a year of French and Spanish. So impressed she could do both at the same time. Now she needs immersion.

See I made this paintings to raise awareness for the causes I love but also to hopefully fund a big trip or a big move. I need a tiny house and a garden...all my stuff is in storage, I want to get it out. 



So can I be honest here. I can't really fundraise because I have a history of old student loans/ debt...and well while I paid off more than half it all fell apart just before I had Angel, when I got downsized and well what ever... I haven't had a credit card in all that time. 15+ years.

Could you do that? Live with out a credit card. So not sure how all that funding stuff works(haven't looked into it in years) but I don't think I can collect it. It will have to go into a friends name and then they will have to give it to me. So if you are wondering that is why I have never done it. I hope I don't regret being honest here. Okay, I will keep you posted as I figure out the details.

oh ps. I tried something on Kickstarter many years ago...to travel with Angel and they denied it. That was before all the big craze of crowdfunding. And for the longest time I felt guilty to ask because it seems so many others have such valid causes.

**Before I took the first trip with Angel, I tried to fund it myself and encourage people to help fund each portion...like one person pays the bus tix, one pays the plane, one the hotel...but then someone in my family made me sad as they laughed at me and said "no one is going to pay for your vacation"

So then I gave up...and then all things funding things happened. 

Well it will be up to everyone to decide but the way those things work is you have to get 30% from friends and family and then people will consider giving...so my social media family, would you be willing to help me? We will see.

1. In 1996, when the International Terminal Building first opened, they had to lift the Canoe with a crane and lower it through the skylights because it didn’t fit through the doors

2. Considered as Bill Reid’s masterpiece, it took the Haida artist 4 years to make. He started in 1990 and completed it in 1994.

3. Before coming to YVR the canoe was at the Canadian Museum of History from 1994 to 1996. Now, a plaster copy of the sculpture at the Canadian Museum of History

4. The Jade canoe appeared on the Canadian $20 bill from 2004 until 2012

5. There are 13 passengers on the Jade Canoe including men and women, young and old, animals, humans, and mythical Haida creatures.

6. Many passengers touch the Canoe for good luck before they travel. It is said that the luckiest part of the Canoe is on the Old Mouse Woman’s nose, which is noticeably worn out.

7. The Canoe was made in Bill Reid’s studio on Granville Island, and then cast in bronze in 1994 at the Talix Foundry in Beacon, New York

8. The Canoe was first made with clay being placed on top of metal rods and mesh. Pieces of the canoe were then removed one by one to be casted into plaster.

9. Although the Canoe is made of bronze, the green patina is meant to represent BC’s official gemstone: Jade.

10. The “Ancient Reluctant Conscript,” the person paddling near the back of the Canoe, is actually a self-portrait of Bill Reid.

11. The Bear Mother and Dogfish woman both are wearing a labret, which extends their bottom lips, and shows that they are women of high social standing.

12. The Raven at the back of the Canoe is one of the most prominent figures in Haida mythology. He is known to be a trickster and his paddling is meant to represent the unpredictable nature of life. The Bear is wary of the Raven’s tricks and is keeping a close eye on him.

13. The Mouse Woman is the Raven’s wise and ancient grandmother.

Well I got a treat for you tonight. It's late and I've got to get to bed, I have class tomorrow. We are all working hard on creating our Portfolios, building our Wordpress Websites and designing our Mobile Apps. You can imagine are brains are on overtime.

So this was made a little while ago, around Mother's day. I was busy cleaning the house and was using the steamer. Angel was playing on the computer, and I had been showing her how to use the mic and headphones. She showed me what she had been working on and it totally brightened my day. Must be doing something right! Check it out!

WOW, I TRAVELED AROUND THE WORLD THIS MORNING!

In my email today was a link from my Linkedin Group -Travel Geeks, this lady Lisa Shusterman. and her husband took their two daughters around the world for a year! AWESOME!!

This something I am planning for my daughter and me, and I am sure this book will be of great help and I plan to get one shortly.

  I need to sit down and write a book about our Adventurez in Mexico - there's so many things that happened that I didn't blog about or that when I re-created  Adventurez in Mexico from the original blog Adventures of Angel - I left out things, so one day I took will write a book.

I see you do not have Mexico on your itinerary, I'll have to see if you ended up there. Maybe after checking out my blog, you'll check it out. Okay check out her posts, links and info below. (Nope: they didn't go, but WOW, the places they did go)

These kinds of experiences, while your kids may not remember them all, will impact and imprint their lives incredibly.

Your daughters will make incredible ambassadors and peacekeepers as they will have such high levels of openenss and understanding of different cultures. 

Seeing all the different landscapes and environments, they can be wonderful spokeswoman and protectors of this planet.

And boy do we need kids like this right now. They are our only hope. They WILL save this planet, because they've seen, they understand it and they LOVE it from all the wonderful things they've experienced.

Recently I read a list of reasons to travel around the world. In all honesty, I didn’t find the list all that compelling. I figured, if I was going to be critical of someone else’s list, I should attempt to create a list of my own that at least I find more motivating. Hopefully you will too…

Oh my gosh this looks like a great book, I'm going to have to check it out. I have always wanted to go to Tibet & India and the Himalayas, that whole area. I want to take Angel there, I know we would grow so much. There's so much I want to go and discover there.

Valley of Flowers National Park is an Indian national park, Nestled high in West Himalaya, is renowned for its meadows of endemic alpine flowers and outstanding natural beauty.


‘It is located in Uttarakhand state. This richly diverse area is also home to rare and endangered animals, including the Asiatic black bear, snow leopard, brown bear and blue sheep. ’

The gentle landscape of the Valley of Flowers National Park complements the rugged mountain wilderness of Nanda Devi National Park. Together they encompass a unique transition zone between the mountain ranges of the Zanskar and Great Himalaya. The park stretches over an expanse of 87.50 km².

The Valley of Flowers is an outstandingly beautiful high-altitude Himalayan valley that has been acknowledged as such by renowned mountaineers and botanists in literature for over a century and in Hindu mythology for much longer. Its ‘gentle’ landscape, breathtakingly beautiful meadows of alpine flowers and ease of access complement the rugged, mountain wilderness for which the inner basin of Nanda Devi National Park is renowned.

Valley of Flowers is splashed with colour as it bloomed with hundreds different beautiful flowers, taking on various shades of colours as time progressed. Valley was declared a national park in 1982, and now it is a World Heritage Site. The locals, of course, always knew of the existence of the valley, and believed that it was inhabited by fairies.

The place had disappeared from the tourist map due to its inaccessible approach but in 1931 when Frank S. Smythe a British mountaineer lost his way while returning from a successful expedition to Mt.Kamet and he reached this valley which was full of flowers.

He was so attracted towards the beauty of the place he named it as “Valley of Flowers”.He authored a book called “The Valley of Flowers” which unveiled the beauty and floral splendours of the valley and thus threw open the doors of this verdant jewel to nature-enthusiasts all over the world.
