I remember when this poster first started circulating — URGENT: NOAA RESEARCH WEBSITES GOING DARK. I posted it, shared it, talked about it. We even worked together to create awareness. But it didn’t go viral. It didn’t spark mass concern. And now? We are witnessing exactly what we feared.

This isn’t a surprise. This is a consequence.

Earlier this year, over 1,000 NOAA jobs were slashed, including roles at the National Hurricane Center (NHC). One meteorologist even admitted he didn’t know how he could do his job anymore — the data just wasn’t there. We watched the tools of life-saving science get stripped away, piece by piece.

And now? Children are dead in Texas from sudden, extreme flooding. Little girls. Entire families wiped out. The storm hit hard and fast — and few saw it coming. Why? Because there was no way to track it properly. No planes flying into it. No models. No warnings.

Let me be brutally honest: this is the result of policy.

As a Canadian watching all this unfold, I have to say I’m very curious what will happen on June 14th in the United States.

Trump’s throwing a giant military parade for his birthday and the U.S. Army’s anniversary – but instead of being a unifying event, it feels like a test. A showdown. And from the outside looking in, it seems more about power and control than patriotism.

He’s warned that protesters will face “very heavy force.”
Let that sink in. A former (and maybe future?) president warning the public not to dissent… or else.

But here’s the powerful part: over 1,500 “No Kings Day” events are being organized across the country to peacefully say “no thanks” to authoritarianism. That’s incredible. People are standing up – without stepping into the trap he’s set in D.C.

And while that’s happening… the Pope—an American Pope no less—is holding a sold-out virtual event in Chicago. Talk about timing. Talk about symbolism.

You know what I keep thinking about? That moment when everyone was encouraged to post photos of Obama—those hopeful, inspiring, joyful shots. Why not do the same now?

Post Kamala Harris photos. Celebrate what could have been. Like Elon Musk even said—Kamala would have won if he hadn’t “rigged it” for Trump. (His words, not mine!) Let’s not forget that Trump isn’t just running—he’s still under investigation, still feeding division, still pushing a dangerous narrative.

And yet people walk by the real danger every day—billionaires laundering cash in real estate, gambling away fortunes in casinos—then clutch their pearls at unhoused folks or those suffering from addiction. It’s all connected.

So this June 14th… I’ll be watching.

And I’ll be hoping people stand strong, peaceful, and proud—refusing to be ruled by fear.

I’ve been painting my mural these past few days, and something unexpected keeps happening. People come talk to me. Strangers. People who’d normally never say a word on a bus or in the grocery store. We’re all usually plugged in, heads down, scrolling endlessly. But here, in front of this wall, something breaks through. Maybe it’s the colors, maybe it’s the openness. Whatever it is, it’s been beautiful—and enlightening.

One man I spoke with was originally from South Africa. He works in cybersecurity now. We talked about how much the city has changed—how cold and disconnected it’s become. He agreed. Told me where he came from was so much more beautiful. And then, almost casually, he said when things get bad here, he'll just move to some far-off place.

I stopped him right there.
I asked, where are you going to go?
Because the truth is: Indigenous people who have lived in harmony with the land for generations—their islands are sinking. Their lands are flooding. Or burning.
So really… where do you think you’ll escape to?

This is the crux.
People are still asleep.
Still believing in tech-bro dreams.
Still thinking they can run away from a collapsing planet as if the consequences won’t catch up.

Elon Musk has sold everyone on this hyped-up, drugged-out Ketamine-fueled fantasy about going to Mars.
Magic mushrooms and space ships.
Blow up another rocket and sell it as progress.
Sell tickets to nowhere and call it the future.
And people eat it up like it’s salvation.

Meanwhile, Manitoba and Saskatchewan are burning.
Over 1,000 people trapped.
No planes can get to them. The airstrips are burning.
The smoke isn’t just staying put—it’s traveling.
My friend in the Azores sent me a photo.
The moon looked eerie. Smudged. Alien.
That’s the butterfly effect.

You poison one place, and another place weeps.
You light a fire here, and it chokes a child there.
You dam a river, and a forest dies down the line.

When will people wake up?

When will we stop pretending we can buy our way out, escape to a digital utopia, or colonize another rock?

There is no escape.

We have one Earth.
One precious, burning, drowning, gasping Earth.
And she is screaming for us to listen.

Respect her.
Protect her.
Because there is no Planet B.
There’s no shuttle waiting to carry you to a better life.

I’m sorry, but I don’t want to be an Oligarch’s puppet. That’s not my business. I don’t want to rule or control anyone. I’d like to help everyone if possible—human beings are meant to live in harmony, not in servitude.

We, the people, have the power. Not corporations, not billionaires, not the elite who hoard wealth while the rest struggle. We have been tricked into thinking our voices don’t matter, that our clicks, our dollars, our choices are insignificant. But today, that changes.

We will not be slaves to convenience. We will not feed the machine that exploits workers, destroys communities, and crushes small businesses. We will no longer enrich those who see us as nothing more than consumers to be manipulated.

We are the Digital Warriors. Armed with truth, connection, and the refusal to comply with their game, we dismantle their power, not with violence, but with choices. Today, we reject Amazon, we reject Target, we reject Tesla. We refuse to be cogs in their machine.

You have the power to influence a generation, but with that power comes an immense responsibility—a responsibility that, if misused, could have catastrophic consequences.

You might feel like you’re at the top of the world, surrounded by influential people, caught up in a whirlwind of excitement and ambition. But I urge you to take a step back and really think about where you are. Do you understand the gravity of your actions? The choices you make now could leave a mark on humanity’s future that is far beyond what you or anyone else could fix.

If you continue down this path, your name may be forever tied to the destruction of democratic principles and the erosion of justice, fairness, and equality. People like Elon Musk, Donald Trump, and others have built a system where power is concentrated in the hands of the few, and the consequences are being felt by millions. Do you really want your legacy to be part of that system?

As a mother, I would ask you to think about the long-term impact of your choices. Seven generations from now, what will they say about you? Will they see you as someone who helped avert disaster, or someone who helped speed it up? According to reports, the White House justified Fong’s removal by claiming that so-called "rogue, partisan bureaucrats" were being replaced with individuals who would “uphold the rule of law and protect democracy.” But let’s be clear: inspectors general are not partisan appointees.
