Quoting Mysti from Indie Music Works
"Music often brings me out of myself so I chose to create the alias Mysti Mayhem, which is the stagename that inhabits my work. My music is a fingerprint of my life. If there is a lesson or a story I cannot rest as long as the songs are tingingly my lips and begging to be conveyed. Music is the audible embodiment of my spirit, and my instruments are the story tellers. It's an honor to be in love with an art that changes chemistry and creates better realities for those receiving the sounds and vibrations

My youthful ambitions with music have led me down many paths that I could consider as regrets and blessings of my maturity

I escort the desire for people to hear my recordings and romanticize with the hope that my experiences and sounds will help someone through their day."

Otters Holding Hands- So Adorable

Blog post by Tina Winterlik © 2011

My daughter and I love the Vancouver Aquarium and we especially love the otters. Check out this super sweet adorable video of otters holding handing. It's just too cute!  I hope we can go soon, I hope we can get a family pass this year that would be awesome!

The YouTube Sea Otters

Vancouver Aquarium sea otters, Nyac and Milo, were the stars on YouTube in 2007.

A video showing the otters holding paws, a natural behaviour called "rafting", appeared on the Internet in March 2007. It has now been viewed over 11 million times by people all over the world. Aquarium visitor Cynthia Holmes, who was then a PhD student at the University of British Columbia, shot the video in 2002.

The tremendous response to Ms. Holmes's video on YouTube is a testament to the allure of sea otters. And that's good since they are a threatened species and need our help

Oil spills are one of the greatest threats to sea otters. Nyac, the blond, female otter in the video was a rare survivor of the 1989 Exxon Valdez Oil Spill. Read More Here

Mexico City (CNN) -- Thousands of demonstrators marched in silence toward Mexico City's central square Sunday, carrying banners and signs that demanded an end to the country's drug war.

Well-known Mexican poet Javier Sicilia led protesters on their 80-kilometer (50-mile) journey, which began Thursday in the central city of Cuernavaca.

More than 65,000 people participated in Sunday's march, the state-run Notimex news agency reported, citing Mexico City police. Read more here

Speaking before a sea of demonstrators at the large plaza in the heart of the nation's capital Sunday afternoon, activists read a list of demands that they said were part of a "national pact." They gave government officials a deadline of June 10 to sign on to the deal. Read more here

Their proposed agreement included "demanding an end to the strategy of war," the removal of corruption from all three levels of government in less than six months, and the quick solving of several notable high-profile cases -- including the killing of Sicilia's son. Read more here

As demonstrators set out Thursday, Sicilia criticized Mexican President Felipe Calderon's crackdown on cartels, which began in December 2006. Since then, Mexican authorities estimate that more than 34,600 people have been killed in drug-related violence. Read more here

MEXICO CITY - Tens of thousands of Mexicans Sunday marched into the capital city to protest the wave of killing that has claimed 38,000 lives since President Felipe Calderon launched his war on drug gangs in late 2006.

Demonstrators, many wearing white and walking in silence, held up placards that read “Not a single more death,” “Enough already” and “No more bloodshed.”

The march started Thursday about 45 miles from the capital in the tourist city of Cuernavaca, which has been rocked by drug-related violence and where in March suspected hitmen killed the son of writer Javier Sicilia, who is heading the march.

“We don’t want any more death because of this growing mess,” said Sicilia, from a platform in Mexico’s huge central Zocalo square, where the demonstrators gathered. Read More Here

We Really Miss You Moma

Blog post by Tina Winterlik © 2011

http://tinawinterlik.blogspot.com

Mother's Day is tough.
It's been tough since I lost my mom in 2007, and I can finally talk about it now with out getting all teary and choking up. That just sort of happened in the last few months. Not sure what it is, peace, calm, numbness.

It's Angel that cries. They say 8 is really hard because that's when children realize we are mortal. She misses her Grama so much lately and cries often. Tonight I spent along time consoling her.

Angel helping Grama do her buttons

She says how much she misses her soft, soft skin. She wants to give a letter to the mailman, get him to take it to the wizards and get them to turn back time. She wants to give Grama a big Smooch and make little wool doll for her.

My mom - by Tina Winterlik © 2011

I feel like a big meany. I'm not overwhelmed with tears and grief, I'm dried up, it took 4 years, but I don't feel the deep empty sadness that caused the tears to flow whenever I thought her.

This last move was tough and I shed a lot of tears then, I have alot of my mom's things and when I unpacked them from storage they brought out tons of memories and emotions.  Maybe that's why I feel peaceful, I feel her all around me.

I feel sad for Angel. Losing her Grama so young, I only had my Grama til I was 18 but still I had her for so much longer than Angel. We have lovely surrogate grandmas that have stepped up to the plate and comforted and played Grandma for Angel, but still it's not the same and they aren't around all the time so it's hard for my little cherub, and that fact she has no grandparents sucks.

Part of me starts to say, "Well if you hadn't had her at 40" but you can what if things to death. It's just life.

This is life.

I guess my point in all this is don't take your family for granted, EVER

Various Family Photo- Copyrighted

Document Life. Take tons of photos & video. Video is beautiful, it captures sound. Record your parents and children's stories.

I miss my mom's voice, I didn't have a video camera til later, and I don't even have a phone message of my mom's voice. I wish I could hear her.  I can if I concentrate, or a memory triggers it, but I'd love to hear her voice again.

I'm the one with the Teddy bear

I don't mean to be a bummer on Mother's Day!

I just want you to Really Appreciate the People you Love and That Love You.

Go out and Hug everyone & "Tell Them You Love Them."

Don't hold back, you've got nothing to lose.

Happy Cinco De Mayo- Cerveza Anyone?

Blog post by Tina Winterlik © 2011

http://tinawinterlik.blogspot.com

Hope you all eat lots of Mexican Food today and have a Wonderful "Safe" Cinco De Mayo. Is it time for Cerveszas yet!! Just kidding! ;)

Just did a big blogpost on Adventurez in Mexico with lots of videos on the History, Food, Pinatas, Margaritas, and I added some Cerveza Commercials below.

Cinco de Mayo is more an American Celebration, it's really big in California and Texas and only celebrated big time in Puebla. It is not Mexico's Independence day, which is actually September 16th.

The "Declaration of Interdependence" was written in 1992 by David Suzuki and his wife, Tara Cullis, along with Raffi Cavoukian, Wade Davis, Guujaw and others.

As the David Suzuki Foundation's founding document, it expresses our values as an organization and provides a vision for the survival of the planet through a "new politics of hope" that promotes connection and interdependence.

Expo 86- I worked there

Blog post by Tina Winterlik © 2011

http://tinawinterlik.blogspot.com

Wow, this is a cool video. Looking back it brings back so many memories. I graduated in 1980 and there just weren't alot of jobs, I lived out in the valley and you really needed a car.

I remembered working on a raspberry picking machine, picking mushrooms, packing eggs, and then somewhere in there I got the job at Expo 86 working graveyards, as a janitor.

I worked in building that burned down a while back. It was the main place for all the offices, the costumes, and I forget what else. (I didn't know it at the time, but it had been used to house the Japanese during the war, so had some "weird" energy there. )

It wasn't right on the grounds, it was over by the Chinese gardens, but I had to pass thru the grounds to get there.

Every night I took the bus down Fraser St, and I could watch the fireworks. I only worked there a month, as I got another job.

It definitely stimulated the economy. I got paid $3.50, I think that was the minumum wage and at Expo I may have got $3.75  or maybe $4.25 I can't remember. After I quit I got a job in a laundry for $5. That was like hitting the big time. Then after a year I got a union job for $9. So things were looking up.

Anyways, here an old pic of me in my Expo86 uniform. Looks wrinkly. Oops! I think I just put it on quick to have a photo, as that pic is taken in the valley and I was living/working in Vancouver.

In my Expo86 uniform

I remember one cool thing, that after Expo86 ended, we all got a letter thanking us for our work from Jimmy Pattison. That was really cool for me. I'm pretty sure I still have it and a button and a few other momentos.

To Depressed to Blog

Blog post by Tina Winterlik © 2011

http://tinawinterlik.blogspot.com

After the crappy results of the election last night, I can't blog today. I'm too depressed. What happened Canada? I don't get it! I can't talk about it....it's to frustating, saddening, maddening...at least it's sunny out. (What kind of example did you just set for all the children???)

Someone showed me how to fix up all my Facebook pages so I'm going to work on that today and I have a meeting about getting a mentor, so I'll talk to you all tomorrow when I feel a bit better about things.

At least Elizabeth May got in! Thank God for the one little ray of sunshine...now there's little hope for the next time, ...4 frigging years away.

Okay kids, I'll be okay, a set back, major setback, but we will survive, we are survivors, thrivers, go getters...I'll talk to you all tomorrow. Have a sunny day! If you can!

Mysti Mayhem- She Rocks

Blog post by Tina Winterlik © 2011

http://tinawinterlik.blogspot.com

I just LOVE Mysti Mayhem, I used one of her songs "Better Than Money" for my video http://adventurezinmexico.blogspot.com/2010/10/join-adventurez-in-mexico-on-their.html

That song really spoke to me. When we were leaving on our original adventure we were up against alot of odds and I didn't truly know what to expect, all I knew was that Love is Better than Money, and if roughing it for a while meant my daughter would connect with her dad, and learn about her Mexican culture than that was worth more than it's weight in gold.

Mysti's song "Better than Money" really touched me and all her songs are so incredible, so touching. Check them out, you'll see what I'm talking about.

LET'S VOTE!!

Blog post by Tina Winterlik © 2011

http://tinawinterlik.blogspot.com

Well Good Monday Morning, I could tell you what a glorious gloomy rainy wet morning it is, but my window is open and a little bird is singing it's heart out, so that brightens the day. I love all the birds and spring. I love the ENVIRONMENT!!!  That said, it's voting day.

I've done all I can. I am informed as I can be I believe, I followed the flashmobs, momthevote, and other various groups, I've posted videos, platforms and comments and tried to help people be informed too!

Now all we can do is pray. Pray and Project Positive Energy, that what ever happens, happens for the best!!

It would be wonderful, and I said this in an earlier post, that if we could have taken all that fabulous positive energy from William & Kates wedding and projected at the environment and the well being of the earth.

I am praying that all the great energy surrounding todays vote, as students and young people come out in record numbers, as informed women unite and vote in record numbers, as everyone heads out to vote that, that the beautiful positive hope for change and democracy is channeled towards the environment, and tackling child poverty and homeless and education and health, and peacekeeping, so that Canada is a place really are REALLY proud to call home.

A country of open mindedness and understanding, not righteous & closemindedness.

Okay, enough of the preaching, let the pomp and ceremony begin, let's VOTE!!

** We scored big time, I'll show you later but we got lots of clothes and a cardboard house for friend of Angel's that's having a birthday soon, and I got some cool birthday things for someone else I know ;)

Well since we are up, we might as well go out, because it's to noisy to stay inside. So we are going to a clothing swap. I'll show you all the good stuff when we get back. I hope I score. :)

I don't like Noisy Marathons! Ba! Humbug!

**Update: After the people did move, I made contact with some people thru twitter and as we went out we saw that they'd moved to the otherside of the street, the band was playing better music and that helped. So Thanks to the people who listened and help. Very much appreciated! :)

Okay, I know I'm going to take some flack about this but "I don't care for Marathons." It's not the marathon itself or the runners, its the Cheerers!

Once along time ago, when my little girl was about 2, these voluteer cheerers stood by our building and "screamed their lungs out."

2x people went out and tried to explain that some people work nights, not everyone wants to be involved in the Marathon, and that it's early Sunday morning, perhaps we'd like to enjoy the calm & quiet, birds singing, that kind of thing. Not people Cheering, for 4 frigging hours.

Its usually one voice that gets on your nerves, they yell and yell...ah I feel the Grinch coming on, All the Noise, Noise, Noise.

I went on Twitter and tried to contact someone to see if we can persuade these people to move down to a few blocks. Its just that this area acts like an amplitheather and it's terrible.

The other week there was another marathon, but they were quiet, I don't know why this one is so noisy, but someone needs to get the message.   Not everyone likes the marathon.

So if someone could move these people away or at least remember this next year, because you may really like to get up early and watch Marathons, but you may not like it if I come and stand in your front yard when your just waking up or going to bed and screaming my lungs out!!

When you live on a marathon route and see dozens of marathons all summer long, you hope people will be respectful in your neighbourhood.
