WHY ARE THE PUBLIC NOT ALLOWED AT PUBLIC HEARINGS?

!!!!PUBLIC NOT ALLOWED AT NEB PUBLIC HEARINGS!!!

Have you ever wondered what would happen if you tried to attend a NEB public hearing as a member of the public?

Find out here, as members of the public, from Burnaby, attempt to attend the NEB Kinder Morgan public hearings.

Public Hearings. The Local Government Act requires that a Public Hearing be held before Council adopts an amendment to the Zoning Bylaw (referred to as a rezoning application) or Official Community Plan Bylaw.  https://www.google.ca/search?q=Public+Hearing&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&gws_rd=cr&ei=Xe2mVv_BLpLWjwO47KPADQ

And as for watching the streaming, everytime I tried I got a message saying the browser couldn't understand the message.

#SaveOurCoast Paintings 1-9

Wow, I have done 9 paintings. Funny, I was hung up on 7, I kept thinking I need 3 more to get 10 but I am almost there....but I want to do a few more...one of them I sold so I sort of need another. The goal is to get 10 and have a show. Of course the more the merrier. Anyways have a look. I just popped this together.

I am going to be working on a big project next week, something I have been procrastinating about so have promised myself not to post on social media, just paint and work on proposal.

So I hope this will entertain you and if not just go through the archives, there's over a 1000 posts there, you should be able to find something of interest. Cheers, for a bit!

Shocking Farmer Suicide Epidemic

"India's shocking farmer suicide epidemic. Falling into a debt-trap and besieged by bad weather, thousands of farmers are taking their own lives each year. "

"In the last 20 years, nearly 300,000 farmers have ended their lives by ingesting pesticides or by hanging themselves. Maharashtra state - with 60,000 farmer suicides - tops the list."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Farmers'_suicides_in_India

In 2014, the National Crime Records Bureau of India reported 5,650 farmer suicides.[1] The highest number of farmer suicides were recorded in 2004 when 18,241 farmers committed suicide.[2] The farmers suicide rate in India has ranged between 1.4 to 1.8 per 100,000 total population, over a 10-year period through 2005.[3]

India is an agrarian country with around 60% of its people depending directly or indirectly upon agriculture. Farmer suicides account for 11.2% of all suicides in India.[1] Activists and scholars have offered a number of conflicting reasons for farmer suicides, such as monsoon failure, high debt burdens, genetically modified crops, government policies, public mental health, personal issues and family problems.[4][5][6] There are also accusation of states fudging the data on farmer suicides.[7]

National Crime Records Bureau says over 200,00 farmers in Punjab have committed suicide since 1997 due to the fact that they are heavily in debt and unable to repay their lenders.

Punjabi farmers are also going through a water crisis in which the Indian government has restricted water rights for irrigation, making it extremely inefficient and expensive for farmers to maintain their crops and land.

The Government has also allowed for the usage of unregulated pesticides and fertilizers to counterbalance the low productivity resulting in major health problems in the people of Punjab.

FINAL EMAIL : SENT TO PORT METRO VANCOUVER

Published on :Stop KinderMorgan on Burnaby Mountain

FINAL EMAIL : SENT TO PORT METRO VANCOUVER:
January 20, 2016 : 2p.m.
Dear Jennifer,
It was good talking with you earlier today, thank you for taking my call and for considering the information and points we have gathered in relation to the permit for drilling in the Salish Sea / Burrard Inlet.
The reasons we believe the permit should be cancelled, or at least put on hold (until after the NEB hearings), are the following:

1) Tsleil-Waututh, Squamish and Musqueam Band Councils provided a press release yesterday, see attached below, confirming that they do not provide consent to Kinder Morgan for the Trans Mountain Expansion project. Project: all related work activity therein.

2) Hereditary Chiefs from the Tsleil-Waututh have issued an official ‘Cease & Desist’ order against the permit. https://youtu.be/jOT9CM4O_i0

3) 7 people have already been arrested for trying to halt the permit. https://youtu.be/IQvdq-uOwvw

4) The permit is now headline news and is causing significant distress to the community, see link below. http://www.vancouverobserver.com/…/breaking-burnaby-rcmp-ar…

5) The timing of the permit, during the Kinder Morgan NEB hearings, is inappropriate to the NEB process, in terms of fairness, equality and bias. http://www.nationalobserver.com/…/kinder-morgan-neb-hearing…

6) The new Federal Government, including the right honourable Marc Garneau MP, are trying to engage in a new Nation to Nation relationship, based on respect, equality, trust and friendship. The permit, even if not intentional, is running counter to this new Federal mandate.
http://pm.gc.ca/eng/minister/honourable-marc-garneau

7) The Burnaby RCMP have opened a File#2016-2109 to investigate the permit and all related activity pertaining to the permit, against numerous community concerns raised, including my own concerns. This file was opened Jan 15 at 2:45p.m., investigations are ongoing.

8) The Burnaby RCMP wants to build a new relationship with indigenous people based on respect, equality and open communication. It is very damaging to this relationship, both short term and long term, when the Burnaby RCMP are put in a position of having to uphold the law in relation to a permit that disrespects Indigenous people and our mutual sense of community.

9) Cost to taxpayers : Members of the Burnaby RCMP detachment and even members of their Emergency Response Team have already had to be called out to deal with the concerns around the permit. This is very expensive to taxpayers, the full incremental cost of the permit is yet to be totalled up.

10) Consent requires a positive affirmation, meaning consent requires, in legal terms, a YES. I would suggest it should never be assumed, that a no response equates to consent, in any area of the law. This requirement for positive affirmation of consent was acknowledged by the Burnaby RCMP. If I ask my neighbour if I can have their car, and they do not respond, it does not mean I can just take it. Consent requires a definite YES.

11) This is really a wonderful opportunity for the Port Metro Vancouver to set a completely new standard, across Canada, as to how Indigenous Consent should be treated, namely with the highest respect, transparency and openness in all areas of life and business. If this can be achieved, it would certainly be something to celebrate.

Thank you Jennifer for considering these 11 points of information and perspective. We look forward to the your statement today/tomorrow morning from the Port Metro Vancouver. I completely agree with you that it’s appropriate that everyone hears your perspective directly and not second-hand, namely without bias, without prejudice, with consent.
Kind regards,
Jeremy Board

#BlueMonday

HEY YOU, ARE YOU BLUE?
Let me cheer you up a bit, okay, please!
I know what it feels like to be blue, I understand and if I can help a little bit, I want to try.

Here are some suggestions.
Here is a beautiful video of one of my favourite places.

http://shambhalavision.blogspot.ca/

http://shambhalavision.blogspot.ca/

Or if you can, head down to Mexico, to Zipolite, here's are a few links

http://rocablancaposada.blogspot.ca/

Posada Esmeralda is a lovely quiet Posada, located on the main road in Zipolite, near Roca Blanca

http://posadaesmeralda.blogspot.ca/

I have this blog and on it are lots of posts about our visit to Mexico. Why don't you read them and plan your trip. Imagine all the wonderful place you will go. Feel the sun on your face and sand between your toes!!

http://adventurezinmexico.blogspot.ca/

http://adventurezinmexico.blogspot.ca/
You know ,maybe you don't know, I could possibly know what you are going through, but have great empathy for you. January is a hard month. I know because my mom passed away the day before my birthday. I loved her so much and it devastated me. But time passes and we begin to heal. It's been 9 years now, and there are still many days where I actually say out loud..."I miss you Mom!! " I also understand what is like to lose someone you love to suicide and that is also devastating. Sadly as we get older many of the people we love move on to the next level and we feel left behind and lonely

The only advice I have is when things are at their very darkest, hang on, hang on until tomorrow. So many times I have been sad and scared and at my wits end about what to do, but I managed to hang on until the next day.

And always something amazing would happen. Miracles, a sign, hope! The angels will help you but you have to give them time, give them a chance. Just make it to the next day, good things will happen, I know because I've been there. People love you, reach out! Never give up!

And for everyone out there, you reach out, check in with people. See how they are doing. People who are hurting won't tell. They are embarrassed, sad, frightened, feeling discouraged and hopeless.

And smile at people, you don't know what a smile can do for someone, compliment someone, do a Pay It Forward, and buy someone's coffee, give that homeless guy on the corner a banana and a loonie, even if you don't have much yourself, because it will come back to you. It will. Trust me.

Good things will happen. I send you love and light and pray that we will all be okay. It's just life right. Sometimes life sucks, but we can survive amazing things when you have someone that cares.
When you know people love you, it makes all the difference in the world.

Also:
Go for a walk
Make Art
Love and be loveable
Hug- get a 20 second hug as often as your can, it's like a drug...we ALL need to be hugged often.
Eat as well as you can- I KNOW, that can be hard if you have little money but try, please!
Keep a journal- MAKE A VISION JOURNAL
Travel if you can- it will enlighten you!

I have 140 videos of my last trip to Mexico, might be something in here to cheer you and help brighten your life, inspire you, ...
http://adventurezinmexico.blogspot.ca/p/140-videos-i-made-in-mexico.html

I made this website about Zipolite, you can check it out to
http://zipolitemexico.blogspot.ca/

And this is just a nice video to calm you.

Now if you need something to do with your hands, here's a good art project, you can put your own spin on it.

Have You Heard of Peace Prayer Flag Project?

I don't think I'll ever look at life jackets the same way. #Lesvos #refugeecrisis @NeetuGarcha

Wow Neetu, so brave of you to go and it must be very difficult.

I send you love and light and pray for you and all the refugees, to be safe on this terrible journey of their life, that it may be over soon and you and they will be safe.

I tried to put this in perspective, imagine if you in Vancouver BC lived near the beach and boatloads of people were arriving everyday...so hard to even think of such a thing...but this is the reality in Lesvos, Greece.

NGOs decry charges against volunteers in Greece
Police charges carrying prison sentences of up to 10 years in jail made against volunteer lifeguards who rescue refugees have angered the NGO community in the Greek island of Lesbos, with some reporting a growing crackdown on their activities.

On Thursday, the Greek coastguard arrested two Danish and three Spanish volunteers from the Team Humanity and Proem Aid groups, respectively.

They are accused of people smuggling, Themistoklis Kefalas, a Danish citizens' lawyer, confirmed to Al Jazeera.

The Danish volunteers are Mohammed Abbassi, 26, and Salam Aldeen, 33. The three Spanish volunteers are Manuel Blanco, Jose Enrique and Julio Latorre.

Late on Saturday, the five volunteers who all deny the charges were released on bail.
All except Aldeen were made to pay a 5,000-euro ($5,450) fee.http://www.aljazeera.com/news/2016/01/ngos-decry-arrests-volunteer-lifeguards-greece-160116193522648.html

Drilling Rig Shut Down!
Kinder Morgan Westridge drilling barge SEIZED and SHUT DOWN on Sunday 17th January 2016 at 12pm.Under the consent of Tsleil-Waututh Hereditary Chief Tulsii'm Kia'palanexw and Wei-Wai-Kay Hereditary Chief Geh-Soh-Giliach, Gigamaie, work crews contracted by Kinder Morgan undertaking offshore geotechnical operations on the Burrard Inlet by Westridge Marine Terminal, were shut down at approximately noon this morning by Hereditary Chief Geh-Soh-Giliach, Gigamaie and Xenoa Skinteh. Both people were involved in the Autumn Resistance of 2014 on so called Burnaby Mountain. The Autumn resistance which is heralded as a success of 'the people' by many ENGOs, is strongly scrutinized by many of those involved in the blockade at Burnaby Mountain. Their true aims were to shut down and stop all drilling and surveying in order to prevent Kinder Morgan from obtaining the information needed to begin pipeline construction. While the Burnaby Mountain protests helped to inform many it failed in fully stopping the drills - todays action is making use of more direct methods to fulfill the goal of stopping the drills. In late 2015, Kinder Morgan gave notice that drilling would take place between December 2015 and February 2016.Kinder Morgan has not undertaken the necessary consultation with Hereditary Chiefs, and they are infringing upon the sovereignty of indigenous people of the unceded lands and waters here in Coast Salish Territory. With the permission from the Tsleil-Waututh Chief, and following a protocol of consultation the drill and barge will be seized and stopped from completing it's work. This action is done to remind Kinder Morgan that they do not have the right to be drilling as they have not received consent from the traditional and sovereign governance of this land. This action should also serve as a reminder to the public that we must do more than write, rally, and march. All are necessary but direct action is what will protect the water, air, land and people from toxic tar sands developments, the capitalistic drive of the Kinder Morgan machine, and the genocidal Canadian Government. It is also a way to show true solidarity with Indigenous nations, as they are most regularly the first displaced, the first poisoned, and the first killed by extractive processes. Direct Action was successfully used on Burnaby Mountain prior to the arrival of ENGOs and succeeded in delaying the arrival of the trucks and equipment for three months. These are the actions that are necessary. This action is in solidarity with all indigenous nations displaced by the Tar Sands, along the current and proposed Kinder Morgan pipeline routes, and in solidarity with the Secwepemc Nation and Secwepemc Woman Warrior Society. Kinder Morgan plans on expanding north through Wet'suwet'en Territory, the same nation that Unist'ot'en Camp is a part of.These lands are unceded, these lands are indigenous. We are putting an end to genocide, ecocide, capitalism, and the colonial process that continues to this day."

BROKE joins with allied groups and individuals in calling upon the federal government to step in and suspend or cancel the reviews of Energy East and the Kinder Morgan Trans-Mountain pipelines.

Prime Minister Trudeau promised during the election campaign to overhaul pipeline reviews to consider climate change and listen to community voices – especially First Nations. The Prime Minister told voters that new review processes would apply to existing pipelines. By allowing the Energy East and Kinder Morgan Trans-Mountain pipeline reviews to go forward without any changes to the NEB, the Prime Minister is breaking that promise. The B.C. Supreme Court has ruled the B.C. government breached its duty to consult the Gitga'at and neighbouring First Nations on the Enbridge Northern Gateway pipeline. The decision, announced Wednesday, is seen as a major victory for First Nations that could have an impact on future oil pipeline projects.
