One
of Alberta’s biggest solar projects has been built in one of the most
unlikely places—the heart of Canada’s Peace River oil sands. This summer
the community of Little Buffalo launched the Piitapan Solar Project, a
20.8kW renewable energy installation that powers the health centre. The
inspiring 80-panel solar project was developed in a bid to create more
green jobs and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
SOLAR IN THE TAR
SANDS features Melina Laboucan-Massimo and community members of Lubicon
Lake installing solar panels for their community health center. After
decades of detrimental impacts from immense resource extraction and a
recent massive oil spill in Lubicon territory, this community is showing
the world and other First Nation communities that the shift to
renewables is possible. www.lubiconsolar.com
AS AN ARTIST- I ask you to consider wisely, thoughtfully and with full clean clear conscience, IF YOU VOTE FOR HARPER, you GIVE UP your RIGHTS and MINE!
From Macleans-
An open letter from Artists Against C-51
Is it promoting terrorism if we:
write a spy novel about an assassination plot?
record a song questioning our government’s agenda?
paint a mural about the conflict in Syria?
produce a documentary on security threats in Canada?
put on an art show critical of the oil sands?
make a film with an environmental theme?
Creativity, expression, opinion, and art are not the same as
terrorist propaganda. Through its “chill” effect, C-51 undermines one of
the chief freedoms of a democratic society: the right of every Canadian
to free speech and free expression, including free artistic expression.
In addition, Bill C-51, because of the lack of oversight and
accountability, is an invitation to intellectual property theft. All
creative classes, including entrepreneurs and digital creators, are
threatened by it. And every citizen is subject to blackmail, due to
unlimited, unaccountable access to personal information.
"The Green Party isn’t like any other political party. Our
mission is to rescue grassroots democracy from the political spin that
makes voters recoil. Our goal is to make sure the planet and our
communities survive and thrive."
I just hope the Americans see the opportuinity they have and vote for Bernie. Elizabeth May speaks about similar ideas. Please share this video. Wouldn't that be wonderful is Elizabeth May was PM and Bernie was President!!
So I just watched a little music video that made me sad and truthfully it disturbed me. Whether or not the creators of the video actually meant it to be positive was hard to tell because it was all about hate.
Hate is powerful as we all know, sadly. But LOVE IS MORE POWERFUL!
During this election time, as the days are counting down it can get scary, we see and hear things and we are not sure what is happening.
People do get afraid, mad and words are said. Words are POWERFUL! Many of you have seen this video but it's message is simple.
So I thought about things for a bit and googled the word Fear Mongering and this is what I found.
As we go into the election we are going to hear crazy things that will try to pit us against one another.
Please I implore you to keep an open mind. KEEP LOVE IN YOUR HEART!!
Please vote but do not let fear created by the politically parties turn you against your neighbours. It is their agenda.
Probably the best-known example in American politics,pre-9/11, is the Daisy
television commercial, a famous campaign television advertisement
beginning with a barefoot little girl standing in a meadow with chirping
birds, picking the petals of a daisy while counting each petal slowly.
When she reaches "9", an ominous-sounding male voice is then heard
counting down a missile launch, and as the girl's eyes turn toward
something she sees in the sky, the camera zooms in until her pupil fills
the screen, blacking it out. When the countdown reaches zero, the
blackness is replaced by the flash and mushroom cloud of a nuclear
explosion.
As the firestorm rages, a voice-over from President Johnson
states, "These are the stakes! To make a world in which all of God's
children can live, or to go into the dark. We must either love each
other, or we must die". Another voice-over then says, "Vote for
President Johnson on November 3. The stakes are too high for you to stay
home".[1]
Please, I implore you, do not fall into the hate and fear trap.
Vote because YOU CAN!! Vote for Change! Vote because you love your children, family and friends and this beautiful country we live in. Vote to for climate justice, social justice, gender justice and racial justice. We ARE ALL ONE! We are all indigenous. WE MUST WORK TOWARDS LOVE and not hate. Hate is what people who are hurt and challenged want to feel so you will react and hurt others. Please do not go that path.
Choose Love! Vote for a party that is about love and fairness and cares about this planet and all the people and creatures that inhabit it. Chose Love because you want your children to follow your example and not fall into rage because someone is pushing you. Be strong. Look to leaders like Martin Luther King Jr, Ghandi and people who have peacefully brought change.
You can peacefully bring change too! Easily! With a vote. My heart tells me to vote Green. You must vote who you think will achieve that, it is your conscience that you will have to live with after election day. Vote with your heart. But make an educated vote.
NO PIPELINES!! NO TARSANDS! NO NEB!
RESPECT YOUR MOTHER!!
From the video First Nations vow to protect lands and waters stating no consent means no pipelines.
Montreal — First Nations women and supporters sent a clear message to
TransCanada this Wednesday evening that the Energy East pipeline is not
welcome through First Nations lands.
“What we want TransCanada to understand is that no means no. This is
Kanien’ke, this is Mohawk Land and we are tired of occupation, we are
tired of environmental disaster.” said Lickers at Wednesday night’s
hearing. “This is our land and we are going to protect it.”
The purpose of the hearings is to establish a community report to submit
to Office of Public Hearings on the Environment (BAPE) and the National
Energy Board (NEB).
“But the consultation process does not work”, states Lickers, whose
family is from Six Nations of the Grand River, “the NEB hearings for
Line 9 were clear as day - between technical and engineering data to
basic violations of treaty and territory agreements, Enbridge should
have been denied their application but instead they were rubber
stamped.”
“TransCanada's Energy East pipeline threatens the chance of a
sustainable future.” says Vanessa, co-founder of Aamjiwnaang and Sarnia
Against Pipelines. “TransCanada has already proven to be a dangerous
company for Indigenous peoples protecting their territory. Taking back
our inherited right to live with the land means we must defend the land
and water at any cost.”
After Lickers and Gray took the stage with a banner, the room erupted in
chants from supporters, “No consent, no pipelines” and “No tar sands on
stolen native lands” as dozens of supporters shut down the hearings in
support of First Nations.
The process for public consultation excludes First Nations interests by
relying on Crown policy for assessing environmental impacts. “Energy
East itself actually violates the Haudenosaunee constitution - the Great
Law of Peace - as it jeopardizes future generations access to clean,
drinkable water, while expanding the environmental destruction of the
tar sands at ground zero in Athabasca.”
But it isn’t just tar sands mining and pipeline transport that those
opposing the pipeline development are concerned about. TransCanada
requires super tanker transport and new marine terminals to be built for
the Energy East, which puts the entire St. Lawrence waterway at risk of
bitumen spills as well as threatening delicate Beluga habitat.

Indigenous
leaders at the Peoples Climate March in New York speak to the urgency
of Climate Change and the need for all of us to be #IdleNoMore. From
the Amazon to the Arctic, Indigenous Peoples are defending our climate
and teaching allies about how extractive industries are directly
connected to sovereignty, colonization, and violence against Indigenous
women.
Idle No More and Defenders of the Land, a network of Indigenous
communities in land struggle, have joined together to issue this common
call for escalating action. Our message is clear and in accordance with
the principles of coexistence and mutual respect between Indigenous and
non-Indigenous Peoples. We call for Canada, the provinces and the
territories to:
Repeal provisions of Bill C-45 (including changes to the Indian Act
and Navigable Waters Act, which infringe on environmental protections,
Aboriginal and Treaty rights) and abandon all pending legislation which
does the same.
Deepen democracy in Canada through practices such as proportional
representation and consultation on all legislation concerning collective
rights and environmental protections, and include legislation which
restricts corporate interests.
In accordance with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of
Indigenous Peoples’ principle of free, prior, and informed consent,
respect the right of Indigenous peoples to say no to development on
their territory.
Cease its policy of extinguishment of Aboriginal Title and recognize
and affirm Aboriginal Title and Rights, as set out in section 35 of
Canada’s constitution, and recommended by the Royal Commission on
Aboriginal Peoples.
Honour the spirit and intent of the historic Treaties. Officially
repudiate the racist Doctrine of Discovery and the Doctrine of Terra
Nullius, and abandon their use to justify the seizure of Indigenous
Nations lands and wealth.
Actively resist violence against women and hold a national inquiry
into missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls, and involve
Indigenous women in the design, decision-making, process and
implementation of this inquiry, as a step toward initiating a
comprehensive and coordinated national action plan
"We’re not organizing another march in New York City this year. Setting
aside Star Wars and the Godfather, sequels are rarely better, and
successful social movements rarely use the same tactic over and over
again. Instead, we’re mobilizing this year in Paris and around the world.
There will be actions in the US on October 18th, huge marches around
the world over the weekend of November 28-29th, escalated action on
December 12th, and more major demonstrations taking on the fossil fuel
industry next April."
It's makes me cry! As I watched this beautiful video I cry because I am afraid that I will never experience this. That my child will not get to experience this precious gift that has been taken for granted by our government and sadly by many many people.
I was born and raised in BC, Canada. I have traveled and seen many wonderful places always saving BC for when I was older, for when my girl was older and we can go hiking and discover the beauty this gorgeous province holds.
The time is NOW! TIMING IS CRITICAL!
If we do not VOTE FOR CHANGE, if we do not STOP HARPER, we can kiss this all good-bye!
We CAN DO THIS! We CAN SAVE CANADA!!
Do what is right! #SaveOurForests #SaveOurCoasts #StopHarper
Sadly the government doesn't get it!! WE MUST SAVE THE WALBRAN! WE MUST SAVE OUR FOREST!!
News Release
Environmental and public concerns ignored by company and provincial government
VICTORIA – Today the British Columbia government approved a
contentious cutblock in the central Walbran Valley on Vancouver Island.
The central Walbran is one of Canada’s most important stands of
unprotected old-growth rainforest. Logging company Teal Jones received a
new permit from the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource
Operations to cut endangered old-growth trees. READ MORE HERE AND TAKE ACTION!! https://www.wildernesscommittee.org/victoria/press_release/bc_government_approves_logging_central_walbran_valley
http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/bcparks/explore/parkpgs/carmanah/
Carmanah Walbran Provincial Park is a luxuriously forested sanctuary
that is without a doubt one of the most remarkable wild places on
Vancouver Island. The lower Carmanah Valley was declared a provincial
park in 1990, and the Walbran and upper Carmanah Valleys were added in
1995. The park offers protection to diverse forest ecosystems, including
a large Sitka spruce ecosystem that represents 2% of BC’s remaining
old-growth forest. See video top of page
“To say the least, I’m outraged,” said
Torrance Coste, a Wilderness Committee campaigner who has been trying to
save the area. What upset him was a map the company sent him recently
that shows eight planned logging blocks in the old-growth forest on the
north side of Walbran Creek.
The cut
blocks are in the Central Walbran Ancient Forest, near hiking trails
that lead to massive old trees, including one called the Castle Giant.
The Walbran Valley is one of the last remaining intact old growth red
cedar forests on southern Vancouver Island. This ecologically diverse
area contains impressive stands of coniferous trees that are thousands
of years old. During the ‘war of the woods’
over a decade ago, the Walbran Valley was the center of heated protests
between industry and conservationists. Recently, it was revealed that
the logging company Teal-Jones
intends to clear-cut sections of this pristine environment, which has
ignited organizations, such as the Wilderness Committee, Sierra Club BC,
the Ancient Forest Alliance and The Friends of the Carmanah/Walbran to
speak out and fight for the protection of this forest ecosystem.
Karst is a landscape that is formed from the underground
erosion of soluble rocks like limestone, dolomite, and gypsum. The
erosion forms underground openings, caves, and streams that support
unique ecosystems. Karst landscape can be easily damaged by activities
such as logging and road building.
If this is fake I find this interesting???? Very interesting....
Interested parties may attend an open house, to be held at 7pm on
Sunday, October 25th, 2015 at the Pan Pacific Hotel. Please contact
info@canvasatgeorgia.ca to RSVP. Refreshments will be served.
So my friend on FB pointed this out after I shared the petition. And
I shared it because the previous day I saw this. And I had found this disturbing. And I thought maybe it was fake! I shared this!"I LOVE HERITAGE BUILDINGS! and in 1999 I created some beautiful photos of Heritage Buildings and had a show. Here is a video of it. And you have to wonder why they made a fake site and the real question is who. Was it a student, was it a warning, does someone know something we don't? Was it Adbusters or someone similar...who's the joker and whose being pranked or warned?"
Now this gets even more interesting! Check out this info and video from Wikipedia about a movement from the 1930's that was trying to end poverty but interestingly it didn't succeed, NOT because the people didn't want it but they were manipulated by propaganda. It was the big movie theatres playing these clips in the theatres before all the movies. Read below. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Isn't that interesting how all those political ads show up before we can watch a video on a news site. (brainwashing) (advertising)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From Wikipedia The End Poverty in California movement (EPIC) was a political campaign started in 1934 by famed socialist writer Upton Sinclair.
The movement formed the basis for Sinclair’s campaign for Governor of
California in 1934. The plan called for a massive public works program,
sweeping tax reform, and guaranteed pensions. The plan gained major
support, with thousands joining End Poverty Leagues across the state.
EPIC never came to fruition due to Sinclair’s defeat in the 1934
election, but is seen as an influence on New Deal programs enacted by
President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
EPIC faced major opposition by the Republican Party
and major media figures. Opponents of EPIC “organized the most lavish
and creative dirty-tricks campaign ever seen—one that was to become a
landmark in American politics” involving “turning over a major campaign
to outside advertising, publicity, media and fundraising consultants for
the first time.” Notable among these opponents were the heads of the
major movie studios in Hollywood. This was largely due to Sinclair’s
proposal to hand over idle movie studio lots to unemployed film workers
to make movies of their own.
In reaction, the studio heads threatened to
move film operations to Florida, and deducted money from employee’s
paychecks to give directly to the campaign of Sinclair’s Republican
opponent for Governor, Frank Merriam. In addition, two of the state’s most influential media moguls, William Randolph Hearst and Harry Chandler
used their papers to solely cover Merriam’s campaign and to attack
Sinclair. In the face of this coordinated opposition, and without the
backing of Roosevelt, Sinclair began trailing Merriam in the polls. On
November 6, 1934, Merriam defeated Sinclair with 1,138,629 (48.9%) to
Sinclair’s 879,537 (37.8%). Despite his defeat, Sinclair’s vote total
was the twice as large as the vote total of any Democratic candidate in
California history to that point. In addition, two dozen candidates
running on the EPIC platform were elected to the state legislature. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/End_Poverty_in_California_movement
Now Occupy Wall Street doesn't just happen because someone posts a picture obviously there are many variables that play a role. But consider this?
It was recently suggested to me by my friend that, that is perhaps why we have so many homeless in Stanley Park, and now suddenly we actually have real crime, like a child almost abducted...perhaps and maybe it was all co-incidence but perhaps some evil person is trying to instill fear into people so they could fill Stanley Park with Condos.
Sounds Crazy Right? But I am sure Occupy Wall Street just sounded like a silly crazy idea to start too! But isn't it amazing how these things get started.
Can we step back and take a look at the bigger picture...who is doing the manipulating and who is being manipulated. What is the truth?
Canada is at a crossroads. We as a nation have really been damaged by things our government has done. This is not the Canada I was raised in. We are bombarded with ads fake and real every second of the day.
Our Government has lied to us repeatedly and if there is just one thing to take a way from it all...always keep an open mind and question everything. We can easily be distracted from the truth and can even get caught up in fear.
We must Chose Love Not Fear!!
I wanted to share this other great video but it's blocked for me because it has some BBC stuff in it! So sad because it was great. It was called "A Message of Hope" this is the second, it's nice but the other was amazing.
So from September 1995 to November 1999 I worked scanning aerial photography. If you read the info on the link below you can see how things changed from film to digital. I graduated from Langara's Professional Photography program and after a brief stint on the cruiselines this is where I landed.
Scanning was totally new and we used very expensive high end scanners. I had the pleasure of working with Mark and his dad. I even got to teach Mark's dad how to use the scanners as the darkroom was phased out. I still remember my supervisor Doug, telling me he only wanted to learn from me. Not sure if that was completely true, ha! ha! but I like to think so. I taught everyone that came through the scanning department until I was phased out! :( but I digress!
I saw alot of those old photos in the basement of the building we worked. Once, and I know this is crazy stuff but I quit the company to go work on the Cruiseships...it didn't work out and I came back but was in between apartments. I lived in the basement for about a week...yikes...crazy..I worked the night shift and so I tried (not very successfully) to sleep in the basement during the day.
I learned a lot during the time I worked there...I learned Unix, and how to work on big computers with big files..well they were big then... 40 mb and 100mb were big deals then. Ha! ha!
I burned my first Cd's there...anyways...what I want to share is these great photographic images and how our province has changed. Amazing that it could be captured and now is being shared. You can see it for yourself and even buy a digital or photographic image. http://vintageairphotos.com/
Thanks for sharing these Mark!!
http://vintageairphotos.com/background/ Hi, my name is Mark, and I’ve got a kind of interesting story to tell: My dad worked in the drafting/survey/mapping industry since
the late 1940′s. I’d guess that throughout his career he probably worked
for at least six different mapping companies here in the Vancouver, BC,
area. That’s not to say that he had a lot of jobs, but rather that
mapping companies here seem to change hands like hockey cards at an
elementary school. I don’t think 5 years goes by without some mapping
company being bought out, changing names, or both. The companies change
names but the people remain the same. I know, because I’m in the mapping
industry too. I’ve been working with air photos since pretty much the
day I graduated high school, that’s coming up on 28 years ago. I even
had the pleasure of working with my dad for about 10 of those years. Read More Here
