PEACEFUL PROTESTORS ARRESTED - #DemocracySpring

" The protesters arrived at the U.S. Capitol Building in D.C. after marching 150 miles from the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia over the course of a week as a part of the Democracy Spring campaign. Upon arriving, they engaged in a peaceful sit-in outside the Capitol, with the goal of staying there for another week.

The Democracy Spring website says the campaign’s goal is to “demand a Congress that will take immediate action to end the corruption of big money in our politics and ensure free and fair elections in which every American has an equal voice.”

Furthermore, their proposals include support of the Government by the People Act & Fair Elections Now Act, the Voting Rights Advancement Act of 2015 & Voter Empowerment Act of 2015; and the Democracy for All Amendment.

The website reports that over 3,600 people have pledged to take part in this act of civic disobedience, though a final number has yet to be confirmed. Police were quickly called to the scene, and they began arresting people not even an hour after the protest begun.

I think so many of us, especially as parents, are struggling to keep a strong connection between ourselves, our children and nature

With so many distractions of school and computers often we  or they are too tired, too busy, too burnt out,  too disconnected, too lazy (dare I say it ...) to just go spend time in nature BUT when we do I see my child blossom....again.

I find with school she is so tired when she comes home.  When I prod her for a walk, she says she has homework...and that's how the afternoon & evenings go...

She does her homework while playing on the computer.

She tells me "she would die" if she had to do just straight homework 

Oh how I miss the homeschooling days when we went for walks after lunch each day and often in the evenings...

But we are going to make great efforts to change this or at least I am.

What Mr. Bateman says about art is so comforting.

"So, what do you want to do is the interesting question?"

That resonates so strongly with me. He is so eloquent when he speaks, I loved what he's says about being an artist. I helps comfort me because being an artist can be very difficult and people are not always very supportive.


The point to my painting is just to express myself and to capture the beauty around me. If it supported me that would be awesome but just not my reality.... yet!

But the ability to capture and express myself through art is the payment 

 From the first time in Zipolite- when my camera burned and I started to draw and paint again seriously to now...it's always been about that and  I hope it inspires people, enlightens them, makes them smile, makes the question, ponder, think....)



 It's why I created my #SaveMyCoast project and so many of my videos and why I took Angel to Mexico - to send my messages out to the world. I hope my art will be received as his one day.  I cherish my paintings and I dream of creating many more. I hope we all create more art, that we take action and do something that has impact.

We are heading into "gloomy future" as Mr. Bateman states...and I so want to change that. I hope you will get yourself and your kids out into nature more...and don't rush or hurry, just go slow and let them bring you into their world. I have found a child's eye sees so much more than mine.

It was completed at the end of 2001 at a cost $2.5 million, funded by a settlement with ComEd. Encompassing one square block and twelve stories high, this retrofit application serves as a demonstration project and test greenroof. The project was completed in the summer of 2001 and will monitored for plant survival as well as other environmental features. Chicago City Hall's greenroof saves $5,000 a year on utility bills, according to Michael Berkshire.

The results of the analysis include overall count of vegetated roofs, their total square footage, and the ratio of required to elective vegetated roofs.  The study identified:
  • 509 vegetated roofs within the City of Chicago. 
  • 5,564,412 square feet of green roof coverag

Hilary laughs at Anti- Fracking Activists


University of Pittsburgh student Sage Lincoln confronted former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at a rally, asking her whether she'd reject donations from anti-fracking lobbyists.

In response to her question, Lincoln received laughter from Clinton, telling her that her ties to the fracking lobby have been "debunked."

Spirit of Haida Gwaii: The Jade Canoe

1. In 1996, when the International Terminal Building first opened, they had to lift the Canoe with a crane and lower it through the skylights because it didn’t fit through the doors

2. Considered as Bill Reid’s masterpiece, it took the Haida artist 4 years to make. He started in 1990 and completed it in 1994.

3. Before coming to YVR the canoe was at the Canadian Museum of History from 1994 to 1996. Now, a plaster copy of the sculpture at the Canadian Museum of History

4. The Jade canoe appeared on the Canadian $20 bill from 2004 until 2012

5. There are 13 passengers on the Jade Canoe including men and women, young and old, animals, humans, and mythical Haida creatures.

6. Many passengers touch the Canoe for good luck before they travel. It is said that the luckiest part of the Canoe is on the Old Mouse Woman’s nose, which is noticeably worn out.

7. The Canoe was made in Bill Reid’s studio on Granville Island, and then cast in bronze in 1994 at the Talix Foundry in Beacon, New York

8. The Canoe was first made with clay being placed on top of metal rods and mesh. Pieces of the canoe were then removed one by one to be casted into plaster.

9. Although the Canoe is made of bronze, the green patina is meant to represent BC’s official gemstone: Jade.

10. The “Ancient Reluctant Conscript,” the person paddling near the back of the Canoe, is actually a self-portrait of Bill Reid.

11. The Bear Mother and Dogfish woman both are wearing a labret, which extends their bottom lips, and shows that they are women of high social standing.

12. The Raven at the back of the Canoe is one of the most prominent figures in Haida mythology. He is known to be a trickster and his paddling is meant to represent the unpredictable nature of life. The Bear is wary of the Raven’s tricks and is keeping a close eye on him.

13. The Mouse Woman is the Raven’s wise and ancient grandmother.

Hunger Striker Kristin Henry - IN HOSPITAL!!

Kristin has been taken to hospital on day 19. Her heart rate dropped to concerning levels. An ambulance was called and she is now at St. Paul's.



I was really worried for Kristin, I myself have hypoglycemia and I can't go without eating or I get sick really fast. Poor Kristin, she tried so hard but now she is in the hospital. She was taken there last night after her heart rate dropped.

If you are unaware, Kristin Henry has taken a heroic stand to STAND UP to BCHYDRO & BC Liberals, calling on them to STOP SITE C.

Her hunger strike while ALL TOO REAL was symbolic of the HUNGER we WILL ALL FACE if this project goes ahead. With Climate Change heating everything up, yesterday we were 17 degrees- a record not broken since 1941, there is no doubt that California will and is facing challenges.

We import a ridiculous amount of food, something like 85% and grocery prices are going through the roof. We have poor homeless hungry people EVERYWHERE and the highest child poverty rate. Flooding the PEACE RIVER VALLEY is absolutely the STUPIDEST move this province could make.

We have this GARDEN OF EDEN waiting for us, if it's not destroyed first with FLOODING AND FRACKING!!!

Stephen Harper APPROVED the current permits that are allowing INDIGENOUS people to be forced off sacred land and is in total violation of TREATY 8. His corrupt legacy crammed through the permit in his very last days of office (Elizabeth May mentioned this) and we are ALL going to pay the price.

DON'T LET HARPER WIN!! The whole thing is before the courts, and while delay after delay and time goes on, the PEACE RIVER VALLEY is being destroyed.

IT'S TIME PEOPLE!! Time for you to STAND UP!!
